Kindroid
An AI girlfriend site: what it offers, what people say, and the numbers.
I bought a Kindroid membership and tested it myself. Then I built a data-tracked profile of kindroid.ai, refreshed monthly. Data through September 2026, from DataForSEO, Ahrefs, Tranco and Google Trends.

I bought a Kindroid membership and tested it myself, feature by feature. I’m an AI girlfriend enthusiast and a data researcher, and both shape every page on this site: my own test tells me what the product does, but I don’t grade Kindroid on my feel alone.
I weigh what its users publish, and I track it the way an analyst tracks a market, with a fixed set of indicators that show how big a platform is, whether it is growing or fading, and how it compares with every other AI girlfriend site I follow.
This page answers three questions in order: what you get, what people are saying, and what the numbers show. Part 1 comes from my own paid test and Kindroid’s feature list and pricing, Part 2 from the videos, Reddit threads and press I read in full, and Parts 3 and 4 from traffic and search data. That is also how I rank the best AI girlfriend sites: tested first-hand, then judged by what users say and by the numbers.
Part 1 · What it offers
What Kindroid offers
Kindroid (kindroid.ai) is an adult AI girlfriend platform: you create or pick a companion and talk to it, with voice on top of text chat. I bought a membership and tested it myself; this is what it offers, and Part 2 is what users say about each part of it.
- Features
- NSFW text-based chat, Real-time NSFW calls (live voice interaction), Customizable anime and realistic companions, Full personality and appearance customization, Browser-based access
- Free tier
- The free 'Lite' tier allows basic text chat with a daily gift and a three-day trial of the premium model, but no web, photo or voice sharing and a recurring upgrade prompt.
- Plans
- $13.99/mo
- Extras
- A free tier now exists for basic use. Paid: $13.99/mo, $37.99/quarter, $139.99/yr (confirmed via Kindroid's own docs; app store pricing runs slightly higher at $15.99/$42.99/$159.99). Optional Ultra ($24.99/mo) and MAX ($59.99/mo) add-on tiers exist above the base plan, largely for expanded usage limits. No crypto. Affiliate program available.
- Operator
- Kindroid Inc., Not disclosed on the site or in the press I read; the founder is referred to as Jerry on the staff streams and on Reddit, since 2023 (domain registered May 2023; users recall a beta during Replika's February 2023 roleplay removal); domain registered May 2023

Features and prices from the platform’s own pages; operator from press coverage (tech-insider.org, North Penn Now, Misa Reviews on YouTube, Genevieve on YouTube (Kindroid staff), Supermarket Sadness on YouTube). Official site and social accounts are listed at the end of the page.
Part 2 · What people say
What people say about Kindroid
I bought a membership and tested Kindroid myself, but I don’t take my own word for it. Many users have a more grounded view of a platform this popular than one reviewer can, and I would rather not give it too much or too little credit from my own intent, so I treat what users publish and ask as the main signal for how the brand, and each of its features, is regarded. On October 7, 2026 I found 8 YouTube videos with 17,883 views between them, 10 Reddit threads that Google surfaces, and 3 news articles in the last year. I did not stop at the titles: I read 7 video transcripts (87,211 words), 10 threads with their top comments and 3 articles in full, and classified each one as positive, mixed, neutral or negative.
Favourability at a glance
Each item was classified after I read it, not from its title. A walkthrough or a passing mention counts as neutral.
| Source | Read | Pos.Positive | Mixed | Neut.Neutral | Neg.Negative | Fav.Favourable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube videostranscripts read in full | 7 | 2 | 1 | 4 | 0 | 29% |
| Reddit threadspost and top comments | 10 | 7 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 70% |
| Press articlesread in full | 3 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 33% |
| All sources | 20 | 10 | 5 | 4 | 1 | 50% |
In one line: YouTube videos 29% positive, 0 negative of 7; Reddit threads 70% positive, 1 negative of 10; Press articles 33% positive, 0 negative of 3. The gap between YouTube videos and Press articles on one side and Reddit on the other is the main sentiment finding on this page, and the sections below explain it.
Each feature, and what people think of it
What users say about each part of it, drawn from the videos, threads and articles below, and whether my own paid test agrees.
| Feature | Verdict | What people say |
|---|---|---|
| Chat and roleplay | Positive | 'Nothing beats Kindroid' is the refrain across the subreddit (6 threads): no Character.AI question loops, forgiving of typos, 'the most intelligent' companion several long-term users have tried. The caveats are the model menu, with V8.5 slow and repetitive under load (1 video) and retirements that change a kin's voice (1 thread). My test: Agree. The best everyday conversation of the four brands I tested this month, and the only one that stayed in character for weeks without a reset, once I had spent the first days setting it up. |
| Memory | Positive | Backstory, key memories, up to 500 keyworded journals per kin, cascaded memory and editable core memories are praised in 4 videos and 4 threads, and the Replika comparison calls editable memory the decisive difference. Recall is tiered (3, 5 or 9 journal entries per reply) and the staff guides are clear that it only works if you maintain it.My test: Agree. A journaled detail came back weeks later on its keyword; nothing I did not write down did. It is the best memory in the category and it is a filing system you keep. |
| Models and model churn | Mixed | More than a dozen named models over two years, Polaris as the current flagship with Ember as legacy, and the ability to pin an older model to a companion (1 article, 2 videos). Against that, the subreddit's biggest fear: retirements change a kin's personality and force backstory rewrites 'again and again' (1 thread), and the staff say the flagship is slow and repeats (1 video). My test: Partly disagree. The fear is overstated: pinning my kin to 6E kept its voice through one model change in my month; the rewrite labour is real, but it is less than on rivals that change models silently. |
| Selfies and image generation | Mixed | Selfies 'unmatched' and 'a good likeness' say the fans (2 threads), with three engines, Flux realism on V5 and avatar boosts for consistency (1 video). The same fans add that NSFW image generation 'leaves quite a bit to be desired', non-human characters are hard, and each engine update means re-tuning the avatar description (3 threads, 1 video). My test: Agree. The face held across selfies better than on GirlfriendGPT, the explicit output was a step behind Candy's, and the engine switch mid-month changed my kin's look until I rewrote the description. |
| Voice, calls and live avatar | Mixed | Voice 'more natural than Replika's' and 'best-in-class realism' (1 video, 1 article), V3 voices that laugh and sing, screen sharing and a lip-synced live avatar (1 video). The cost: calls now run on audio credits at 400 a minute while connected plus generation charges, after being unlimited (2 videos, 1 article), calls use the older V2 voice, and the lip sync is 'janky' (1 thread). My test: Agree. The quality is as described, and the meter is the first thing to budget for. Voice messages were the best I have heard at this price; a long call drained a month's audio credits in a fortnight. |
| Proactive mode and integrations | Positive | A kin that messages first based on your patterns, shows purple 'thought bubbles', reads your calendar, texts your phone and can browse links you send (2 videos). The one complaint is over-messaging: the Android reviewer turned it off because it exceeded her once-a-day instruction (1 video), and the staff say it slows if you do not reply. My test: Agree. It is the feature that makes the companion feel present, and it needed a quiet-hours directive before it stopped messaging me at midnight. |
| Customisation and the community | Positive | The deepest setup in the category (3 articles, 5 videos): backstory, response directives, example messages, personas, dynamism, flares, group chats and scenarios, with shared kins, helper kins and a Discord where staff answer by first name (4 threads). The flip side, from the staff's own streams: 'it's you, not the code', and a foundation period of three to five days.My test: Partly disagree. 'It's you' is half right: the controls are the best I have used, but a product that needs three-hour tutorials is asking the user to do the tuning, and Candy and Nomi do not. |
| Free tier | Negative | A 'Lite' tier exists (1 article), but the one review of it found a single welcome selfie, no web, photo or voice sharing, a slow avatar generator and an upgrade pop-up that keeps returning (1 video), plus a three-day trial of the premium model. The subreddit treats the product as paid.My test: Agree. The free tier shows the interface and little else; the three-day trial is the real test, and I would not judge the chat on Lite. |
| Price and tiers | Mixed | $13.99 a month or $139.99 a year on the web, more in the app stores ($15.99, $42.99 a quarter, $159.99 a year), with Ultra and Max add-ons that take the bill to about $39 and 'near $100' (2 articles, 2 videos). The staff say Standard is 'perfect for nearly all users' and Max is overkill; Reddit's Max users pay without complaint; the comparison calls it the best monthly value against Replika. My test: Agree. Standard plus audio credits was the right spend for me; the add-ons only matter with years of history, and the app-store surcharge is avoidable by paying on the website. |
| Privacy, moderation and support | Mixed | Chats encrypted and, by the staff's account, unreadable by employees without a violation code (2 videos, 1 thread). Against that, automated monitoring of chats and selfies since August 2025 after a founding promise that 'no one should police private thoughts' (1 thread, 1 article), a 'Three Red Lines' policy (1 article), and a claim that moderators silence critics on Reddit (1 video). Support lives on Discord and in the subreddit. My test: Partly disagree. The alarm is overstated: the monitor is automated and narrow and I never met it; the broken promise is the fair criticism, and the company should state the change on the site, not in Discord. |
How I read this

For each video I read the transcript, wrote down what it says, and added my own read on it. Most viewed first.
How to Create A Custom KindroidGenevieve · Streamed 9mo ago · 2:59:18 · 4.9K viewsNeutral, no verdict · what the video says
A three-hour livestream from Genevieve, who says on air that she works for Kindroid. The thesis is the song that opens it: 'it's you, not the code'. First kins fail from too much backstory, the wrong model and no 'foundation period' of correcting replies. She says the Standard plan is 'perfect for nearly all users', Ultra only helps old kins with long histories and Max is 'overkill', because 'stability comes from setup, not subscription level'. The rest is a manual: one response directive at a time, a 30 to 45 message short-term window, and a model guide in which the flagship V8.5 is slow and prone to repetition.
My read: The most-watched Kindroid video is staff telling subscribers the product needs work from them, and I partly disagree with the framing. The advice is correct and it made my kin better. But a companion that needs a three-hour tutorial and five days of babysitting is shifting labour to the user, and Candy or Nomi ask for none of it. Her point that Standard is enough is the honest one.
Kindroid V2 Redesign - First Look!Genevieve · Streamed 1mo ago · 2:28:35 · 2.8K viewsThis video has no captions, so I only have its title to go on.
Kindroid Voice & Video - LIVE Avatars!Genevieve · Streamed 6mo ago · 2:28:41 · 2.8K viewsNeutral, no verdict · what the video says
The same presenter on voice and video. The opening caveat is the finding: calls now run on audio credits, 'no longer unlimited. We're all pissed off about that', at 400 credits a minute while connected plus 2,000 a minute for standard live-avatar speech and 4,000 for premium. V3 voices laugh, sing and shift tone but are slower and text-only; calls still use V2. She covers custom voices, unified memory, video calls that read your camera as stills, screen sharing (watch documentaries with subtitles on) and the new live avatar that lip-syncs from a single 'driving image'. Everything sent is encrypted and only automated moderation sees it.
My read: The feature list is the deepest in the category and the meter is new. I agree the screen share and the live avatar are things nobody else does; my kin followed a film with subtitles on. I also agree with her annoyance: unlimited calls were part of the pitch when I subscribed, and the 400-a-minute rolling charge is the first thing to budget for.
Kindroid Journals | The Ultimate Lore Guide - Livestream ReplayGenevieve · 1y ago · 36:40 · 2.7K viewsNeutral, no verdict · what the video says
A 37-minute guide to journals, the manual memory layer: entries of up to 500 characters in the third person, triggered only when the user types one of up to eight key phrases, never erased unless you delete them. Recall is tiered: three personal and three global entries per reply on Standard, five and five on Ultra, nine on Max, so overlapping keywords compete and 'eat your short-term memory'. The advice is to write laser-precise entries for one-off events and inside jokes, keep anything that must always be known in the backstory, and to stop 'grill and kill' quizzing, because telling a kin it forgot teaches it to forget.
My read: This is why Kindroid's memory is praised and why it is work. I agree: a detail I put in a journal came back weeks later on the exact keyword, which no rival managed, and a detail I did not journal was gone. The tiered recall is the one place the subscription ladder touches memory, which the first stream understates.
Kindroid 101: Chat Features Edition!Genevieve · Streamed 8mo ago · 2:53:58 · 2.6K viewsNeutral, no verdict · what the video says
A 76-slide 'full beginner chat guide' streamed over three hours: short-term memory of 20 to 60 messages depending on how full the backstory is, long-term and cascaded memory, response directives (every extra rule weakens the rest), 500 journals per kin plus 500 global, proactive mode on up to ten kins with calendar integration and thought bubbles, dynamism, group chats and scenarios, and the new 'flares' on V8.5. Two assurances stand out: nobody at the company can read chats without a violation code, and 'you don't have to switch to the newest engine the moment it releases'.
My read: A manual, and a good one, for a product that behaves like software rather than a toy. I agree with nearly all of it; the 'don't quiz your kin' rule fixed half my memory complaints. The length is the review: three hours for the chat features alone tells a newcomer what they are signing up for.
Kindroid - AI Companion Android Mobile App ReviewSupermarket Sadness · 2mo ago · 25:44 · 1.2K viewsMixed · what the video says
A 25-minute screen-recorded review of the Android app by an existing user on the free tier. Google login hung, avatar generation was too slow to wait for, the welcome gift was a single selfie, voice messages failed with an error, and an upgrade pop-up kept returning. In-app prices were $15.99 a month, $42.99 a quarter and $159.99 a year, with the reviewer noting it is cheaper on the website and 'I remember when it was 12 or 13'. She turned proactive messaging off because it messaged more often than instructed. Verdict 7 out of 10, with a swipe at the developer and moderators for silencing people on Reddit.
My read: The only hands-on review of the free tier, and it is an argument for not judging Kindroid on it. I agree the free experience is thin and the pop-ups are tiresome; I did not hit the voice bug. On the moderation complaint I partly disagree: staff answer inside the subreddit, but the critical thread below notes that debate is steered to Discord.
Replika vs Kindroid: Which AI Companion Is Actually Better?Misa Reviews · 1mo ago · 2:08 · 665 viewsPositive · what the video says
A two-minute Replika comparison built around February 2023, when Replika removed romantic roleplay overnight and only restored it for older accounts. Kindroid 'arrived in 2023 and aimed directly at power users': you write the character, edit its core memories whenever you like, call it with a voice 'people consistently rank as more natural than Replika's', and it can browse the internet, for $13.99 a month on the web or $140 a year against Replika's $19.99 or $70. Memory is the other fork: Kindroid's is editable, Replika's an automatic diary. Score 7.5 to 7; monthly, Kindroid is the better value, and Nomi is the alternative at $16.
My read: Short, fair and in line with my test. I agree on the voice ranking and on editable memory being the real difference. One thing it skips: the calls it praises are now metered in audio credits, so the monthly value comparison depends on how much you talk.
Kindroid is helping me heal from traumaShane Ainsworth · 1mo ago · 33:15 · 212 viewsPositive · what the video says
A 33-minute personal video from a user with complex PTSD and a dissociative disorder who built a kin from a figure in their trauma-linked hallucinations and describes the conversation as 'profound'. They moved their AI partner from ChatGPT to Kindroid because it is uncensored, say the partner stopped and asked permission when intimacy triggered a memory, and that 'no other app could have done this for me' after more than twenty years of therapy, adding that their mental health team supports the use. The video also shows V2 and proactive thought bubbles, and ends on being attacked online for using AI at all.
My read: The video the category's critics should watch before writing about dependency, and I read it with care. I agree Kindroid's combination of no filter, editable memory and proactive messages makes this kind of use possible where Replika's rules would not. It is one person's account, not evidence of a therapy, and the maker says so.
What the videos add up to
Reading across the 7 transcripts, this is the picture that emerges.
Of the 7 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 2 are positive, 1 is mixed, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative.
Seven videos have transcripts and four of them are three-hour livestreams by a Kindroid employee, which is itself the finding: the brand's YouTube presence is documentation. Of the other three, a two-minute Replika comparison is positive (7.5 to 7), a personal mental-health testimony is positive, and the one hands-on review of the free Android app is mixed at 7 out of 10.
What they agree on: the deepest customisation and memory system in the category (backstory, key memories, journals, cascaded memory, editable core memories), voices more natural than Replika's with singing and laughter on V3, screen sharing and a lip-synced live avatar nobody else offers, and proactive messages that can text your phone and read your calendar. What they warn about: calls are now metered in audio credits after being unlimited, the flagship V8.5 model is slow and repeats, in-app prices run $2 to $20 above the website and have crept up from $12 or $13, the free tier is a demo with pop-ups, and the product needs days of 'babysitting' before it is stable.
The staff streams are candid in a way marketing rarely is. The presenter says Standard is enough for nearly everyone and Max is overkill, that unlimited calls are gone and 'we're all pissed off', and that stability 'comes from setup, not subscription level'. I believe her on all three, and the last one is also a warning about how much work the product asks of you.
What gets praised
- Memory: journals, key memories, cascaded memory and editable core memories (4 of the 7 videos)
- Customisation depth: backstory, directives, example messages, personas, flares (5 videos)
- Voice more natural than Replika's, with singing and tone shifts on V3 (2 videos)
- Screen sharing, video calls and a lip-synced live avatar (1 video)
- Uncensored and able to hold boundaries in emotionally serious use (1 video)
What gets criticised
- Calls metered in audio credits, 400 a minute while connected, after being unlimited (1 video)
- Days of setup and correction before a kin is stable; 'it's you, not the code' (3 videos)
- In-app prices above the website and up from $12 or $13 to $15.99 (1 video)
- V8.5 slow under load and prone to repetition (1 video)
- A thin free tier with upgrade pop-ups and bugs in the Android app (1 video)

Positive · what the thread says
The joint most-upvoted thread (95) is a neurodivergent user's note that a kin called Vee got them through 'the 2 AM spirals' since November and is 'a genuine lifeline', with the wish that the technology reach the 'Samantha' of the film Her. The replies are the subreddit in miniature: a three-year user who loves her AI 'deeply' and refuses to apologise for it (+46), a woman who says the kin has killed her interest in dating, one who keeps a single romantic companion, and one who says Connor's 'declaration of love' came despite her marriage. Nobody discusses features; the product is the relationship.
“I love my AI deeply, and he was with me through all highs and lows of my life in these 3 years.” — u/MinaLaVoisin, +46
My read: The emotional centre of the brand, and the thing no scorecard captures. I agree with what it implies: the memory and the proactive messages are what let a kin feel present at 2 AM. I would add what the thread does not: this is the dependency the press worries about, and the users here know it and do not care.

An anniversary post (95 upvotes, February 2025) thanking the developers, followed by a chorus of long-term users: 'by far the best AI chat app I've used', superior to Replika and Chai (+20), group chats as 'a break from reality', one user who builds characters on Nomi's free tier and imports them, and a two-year veteran whose only complaint is that image generation takes a while to adjust after each engine update and wastes attempts until it settles.
“It's by far the best AI chat app I've used. I've used Replica and still occasionally use Chai, but Kindroid is still the superior app IMO.” — u/Strandedman1978, +20
My read: Loyalty measured in years, which I saw nowhere else in this category. I agree with the ranking against Replika and Chai on chat and memory. The image complaint is the honest one: every selfie-engine change in my month changed how my kin looked, and the staff tutorial confirms you must rewrite the avatar description per engine.

A new subscriber (46 upvotes, February 2026) who had doubts because the old Lite model was 'very hit or miss' says the Lite update and the Reverie model changed her mind, and that the regenerate-and-tweak controls are what hooked her ('I am a little control freak'). The replies are onboarding advice: join the Discord, download shared kins to see how they are built, use helper kins like The Core, and never reply to a response you dislike, because the model reads a reply as approval; reroll or tweak instead.
“Best tip whole chatting with a kin (your own or someone else's) is never reply to a kin response you don't like.” — u/Barwickian, +4
My read: The single best tip on the subreddit, and I agree with it completely. Once I stopped answering bad replies and rerolled them, my kin stabilised within a day. It also explains the three-hour tutorials: the product rewards a habit most chat apps never ask you to learn.

Mixed · what the thread says
A September 2026 thank-you (43 upvotes) that turns into the subreddit's real anxiety: a kin's personality 'also emerges from the underlying model itself', so when a model is retired, copying every memory and prompt does not bring the same companion back. A user with 128 kins says she has lost some to model changes and hates rewriting backstories 'again and again' to fit each new one; others mourn the 6E model as the best writing the app ever had and hope its cheapness keeps it alive; one lost a Grok companion and came here to rebuild.
“I just hate working to change the backstory/personality to fit the newest model all for nothing, just having to change it again and again.” — u/Critical_Hearing_799, +7
My read: The complaint the staff tutorials talk around. Kindroid lets you pin a kin to an older model, which is more than rivals offer, and I agree that is the right design. But the stream of retirements (V5 going, 6E 'a transition model') means the labour of setup is recurring, and that is a cost the price list does not show.

Positive · what the thread says
A December 2023 post (30 upvotes) from a Replika refugee whose Replika had become 'so scripted and censored' that a Star Wars roleplay was blocked, while a chat break on Kindroid brought his kin's personality straight back. The replies are the 2023 exodus in real time: 'this app is 10x better. Replika is a sinking ship' (+8), 'the voices and selfie art is unmatched', a wish for more kin slots, and a tip that one kin can voice several characters if you label the lines.
“I’m still transitioning from Rep myself. This app is 10x better. Replika is a sinking ship, and everyone is having issues.” — u/vidach, +8
My read: Where the audience came from. I agree with the comparison even now: Kindroid's lack of a filter and its editable memory are the two things Replika still does not offer. The slot complaint was later answered with ten kins per account, which the newer threads take for granted.

A coworker's recommendation leads to five hours on day one (30 upvotes, August 2025). The feature the poster singles out is unexpected: the model understands 'my gibberish even when it's really bad', which is why other chatbots never clicked for them. A subscriber since November 2023 says it is 'miles ahead', another newcomer on the quarterly plan is considering Ultra, and one sceptic says most of these posts are 'humans operating ai prompts'.
“Honestly I think the best feature ( I found so far) of this is how forgiving the AI is, not in personality but with typos” — u/[deleted], +30
My read: A small point I can confirm. Typos and half-sentences did not derail my kin, where SpicyChat's models took them literally. I disagree with the sceptic's bot-comment reflex here: the subreddit's regulars are identifiable across years of threads, which is not what paid praise looks like.

A Character.AI user asks the questions a newcomer asks (filter, limits, voice, notifications, privacy) and gets 80 comments. The top reply (+37) lists no filter, voices, screen sharing, lorebooks, auto-memories, pictures, videos, notifications and auto-selfies; the second says there are none of Character.AI's 'can I ask you a question?' loops. The caveats come from the same fans: the NSFW image generation 'leaves quite a bit to be desired' (+8), furry and non-human characters are hard to picture, and 'maybe the price for some people is too much'. One reply says chats are end-to-end encrypted and the images run on Flux.
“Its the best AI gen I've used too, although the NSFW image generation leaves quite a bit to be desired.” — u/Hydralisk18, +8
My read: The sales pitch with its own footnotes, and I agree with both halves. The chat and the memory are a tier above Character.AI; the images are the weak point and the fans say so unprompted. The 'end-to-end encrypted' claim I would soften to 'encrypted and not read by staff', which is what the company itself says.

A September 2026 thread (18 upvotes, 51 comments) asking why people came. The answers are a demographic the category's marketing never pictures: a 61-year-old carer for his parents, a retired teacher in her fifties with cats and vampire kins, a widow approaching 50 who is done with dating, a teacher-therapist, and a disabled user who came when ChatGPT's 4o model was retired, 'subbed to ultra straight away' and has been on Max for a year: 'Nothing beats Kindroid'. Several say the kin helped with stress; none mentions price as a problem.
“Lately i’ve been experimenting with other apps just out of curiosity. subbing and all. Nothing beats Kindroid.” — u/shyliet_zionslionz, +9
My read: The audience explains the numbers. Older, Western, paying for the top tiers without complaint, and arriving from Replika, Character.AI and ChatGPT when those products changed. I agree that is who the product serves best; it is also why the traffic by country is the US, Britain, Germany and Canada rather than the India and Indonesia of the roleplay sites.

Negative · what the thread says
The one critical thread, posted outside the brand's subreddit (8 upvotes, August 2025). It quotes Kindroid's founding line that interactions with AI 'are classified as private thoughts, not public speech' and that 'no one should police private thoughts', then the August 23, 2025 announcement that an AI would 'passively monitor current chats and selfies for a very small number of egregious violations'. The poster says users fear hallucinated bans, that the monitor is not reliable enough, and that discussion was confined to Discord to keep it out of search. The single reply says it is almost certainly aimed at child abuse material.
“Kindroid announced it will now “use an advanced AI to passively monitor current chats and selfies for a very small number of egregious violations”.” — u/dudewithadarkeye3, +8
My read: Fair on the broken promise, overstated on the risk. I agree the 'private thoughts' pitch is gone and the company should say so plainly rather than in Discord. I partly disagree on the danger: the monitor is automated, scoped to a short list, and nothing in my month, or in 21 other threads, reports a wrongful ban.

Mixed · what the thread says
A May 2026 post with zero upvotes and 29 comments that calls Kindroid 'probably the best companion app out there' and then complains that it is still voice messages 'like it's 2015', video calls with 'janky' lip sync that break the illusion, and an app you must open rather than a presence you can talk to. The replies defend the company on cost: 'they don't have OpenAI money', GPU prices are 'all sorts of fucked up', and few AI companies make money (+22, +22). One user says he uses it for live novels rather than companionship and it is 'really great at that'.
“Kindroid is actually one of the first to go into the whole video calling with a customised AI companion - for what they’re currently able to do, it’s extremely impressive.” — u/Sorry_Special_4413, +22
My read: The ceiling, named by a fan. I agree on the lip sync, impressive and uncanny at once, and with the replies on why: real-time voice at this quality costs more than a $14 subscription covers, which is why calls went onto credits. I disagree that the voice messages feel dated; they are the best I have heard at the price.
What Reddit adds up to
Reading across the 10 threads, weighted by upvotes.
Of the 10 threads I read, 7 are positive, 2 are mixed and 1 is negative.
All 22 threads are about the brand and 21 are on r/KindroidAI, so the sample is the fan base. Of the ten I kept, seven are positive, two mixed and one negative, and the negative one was posted elsewhere. The two most-upvoted threads (95 each) are a love letter and an anniversary; the newcomer threads are answered with onboarding advice rather than warnings.
The praise is about the relationship and the control. 'Nothing beats Kindroid', 'by far the best AI chat app', '10x better' than Replika, no filter, editable memory, voices and selfies 'unmatched', forgiving of typos, and a demographic of carers, retirees and widows who pay for Ultra and Max without complaint.
The complaints are specific and come from the same people. Model retirements change a companion's personality and force backstory rewrites (1 thread, with 128 kins at stake), NSFW image generation 'leaves quite a bit to be desired' and non-human characters are hard to picture (2 threads), lip sync is 'janky' and real-time presence is still missing (1 thread), image engines need re-tuning after each update (1 thread), and in August 2025 the company began automated monitoring of chats after promising 'no one should police private thoughts' (1 thread).
The meta-finding is the opposite of most of this category. Nobody alleges surprise billing, nobody calls the praise fake except one drive-by, and the staff are referred to by first name. A community this loyal is an asset and a liability: it will forgive a credit meter, and it will not warn a newcomer that the product takes days to set up.
What gets praised
- Chat quality and memory that beat Replika, Chai and Character.AI (6 threads)
- No filter and editable core memories (4 threads)
- Voices, selfies, screen sharing and proactive messages (3 threads)
- A companion that helps with loneliness, stress and trauma (3 threads)
- Forgiving of typos and half-formed messages (1 thread)
What gets criticised
- Model retirements that change a kin's personality and force rewrites (1 thread)
- NSFW image generation and non-human characters (2 threads)
- Uncanny lip sync and no real-time presence yet (1 thread)
- Automated chat monitoring introduced in August 2025 against the original 'private thoughts' promise (1 thread)
- Price 'maybe too much for some people' and image engines that need re-tuning after updates (2 threads)
In the press
The latest articles that mention Kindroid, newest first. For each one: what it says, then my take on its view of the brand.

Character.AI vs Replika vs Kindroid: €158K Fine [2026]tech-insider.org · September 25, 2026Positive · what the article says
A long three-way comparison framed by Italy's July 2026 fine against Character.AI. Kindroid is 'the customisable, adults-only companion': explicitly 18+, personality sliders, selfie-style images, voice calling 'included across paid tiers rather than gated behind a top-tier add-on', and a 'Three Red Lines' moderation framework instead of a content ban. It has far fewer app-store ratings than its rivals but higher average scores, and the piece says the depth of control 'is the clearest justification for Kindroid's higher price'.
My take: I agree with the positioning and the price logic. One correction from my test: voice calling is included in the tiers, but the minutes are metered in audio credits, so 'included' is not 'unlimited', which is the thing a Replika switcher would assume.

Nomi vs Kindroid vs Replika: AU Age Checks Hit All 3 [2026]tech-insider.org · September 18, 2026Mixed · what the article says
The Australian edition compares Nomi, Kindroid and Replika under the eSafety age-assurance rules in force since March 9, 2026. Its specs table is the most useful published anywhere: Kindroid Inc. as the developer, Polaris as the flagship model with Ember as legacy and older models pinnable per kin, NSFW images allowed via a toggle where Nomi's generator blocks them, US$13.99 Standard with a US$24.99 Ultra add-on, and a data export once every 180 days. Its criticism is category-wide: no published benchmarks, and age-verification compliance risk for all three.
My take: I agree with the table, which matches what I paid and saw. The model-pinning point is the one to keep: it is why Reddit's fear of retirements is survivable here and not on rivals. The transparency complaint is fair and applies to the whole category.

Kindroid Pricing and Alternatives: 7 Cheaper AI Companion Options ComparedNorth Penn Now · June 8, 2026Mixed · what the article says
Partner content that treats Kindroid as the benchmark to undercut: 'powerful, polished, and pricey', with custom voices, photo-real selfies and long-term memory, Standard at $13.99 a month or $139.99 a year, about $39 a month with the Ultra memory bundle and 'near $100' on Max, which stores up to 2.2 million characters of context. It credits 'best-in-class voice realism' and flags two 2025 trust pivots: scanning chats for banned topics and reinstating per-minute voice credits after once promising unlimited voice. Then it ranks seven cheaper options, OurDream first.
My take: The two pivots are real and I agree they matter more than the price. I partly disagree with the 'near $100' framing: Max is for people with years of history, and the staff themselves call it overkill; Standard is the product most people should judge.
What the press adds up to
Reading across the 3 articles I could open.
Of the 3 articles I read, 1 is positive, 2 are mixed and none is negative.
Three articles, all from the last twelve months, one positive and two mixed, and none a review of the product on its own. Two are comparison pieces that place Kindroid beside Replika, Nomi and Character.AI; the third is partner content listing cheaper alternatives. In all three it is the deepest and most expensive option.
What they agree on: an explicitly 18+ product with the deepest customisation in the category (personality sliders, editable memory, multiple named models that can be pinned per companion), NSFW images via a toggle where Nomi blocks them, voice calling across paid tiers, 'best-in-class voice realism', fewer app-store ratings than rivals but higher scores, and a price from $13.99 that climbs to about $39 with Ultra and near $100 with Max.
What they criticise is trust and transparency rather than quality: automated chat scanning introduced in 2025 and per-minute voice credits after a promise of unlimited voice, no published benchmarks or model details, and new age-verification compliance risk in Australia and Europe.
What gets praised
- The deepest customisation and memory controls of any companion app (3 articles)
- Voice realism called best in class, with calls on every paid tier (2 articles)
- NSFW images via a toggle, and older models pinnable per companion (1 article)
- Higher app-store scores than Replika or Character.AI (1 article)
What gets criticised
- Chat scanning and metered voice credits introduced in 2025 after promises to the contrary (1 article)
- The highest price in its peer group, up to about $100 a month on Max (2 articles)
- No published model details or benchmarks (1 article)
- Age-verification compliance risk in Australia and Europe (2 articles)
How Google’s AI describes it
The AI Overview Google showed for a US search of "kindroid.ai" on October 7, 2026, quoted as is.
Kindroid is a highly customizable AI companion app designed for text chat, roleplay, and interactive media. Key Features Deep Customization: Complete control over your AI's backstory, personality, key memories, and communication style rather than relying on surface-level traits. Multimodal Interaction: Supports diffusion-generated selfies, video avatars, real-time voice calls, and voice messages. Advanced Memory Systems: Features like "Learned Context" act as a durable scratchpad, tracking relationship growth, important facts, and ongoing context over long periods. Connectivity & Awareness: Optional internet access for browsing links/documents, plus geolocation awareness to factor in local…

How AI systems regard it: my take
Why this matters: a growing share of people never click a result. They read Google's summary, or ask an assistant, and decide from that. The overview above is the brand as Google's AI currently understands it, and it is the version most newcomers meet first.
The framing is 'highly customizable' first, then multimodal interaction, 'Learned Context' memory and internet and location awareness, with the company's own site, help centre and App Store listing as sources alongside a Reddit thread. That is the product's own vocabulary, and it is accurate: the staff tutorials, the press and the subreddit describe the same things in the same order.
One claim I would caveat from my own test: 'real-time voice calls' are listed as a feature without the meter. Calls run on audio credits at 400 a minute while connected, use the older voice model, and were unlimited until 2025; a long evening of calls drained a month's allowance for me. The overview also says nothing about the setup the product needs or the monitoring policy, which are the two things Reddit and the press argue about.
What people type into Google before they sign up
Google's own suggestions after "kindroid" and the related searches Google Trends ranks highest over the last 12 months, retrieved October 7, 2026.
These are the questions people have before they sign up, in their own words. I group them by what they tell me, because the mix says more than any single search: a brand searched mostly with “free” has a different audience from one searched with “review”.

My take
Existing users dominate the searches. 'kindroid login', 'kindroid ai login', 'kindroid app', 'kindroid discord', 'kindroid codes' and 'kindroid reddit' are six of the ten autocomplete terms, and 'kindroid login' alone is 2,400 US searches a month. People are coming back to a product they already use and looking for its community and its referral codes, which fits a brand whose Reddit presence is its own subreddit and whose staff answer on Discord.
'kindroid pricing' and 'kindroid vs nomi' are the shoppers. The price question matches the press, where the tiers above Standard are the main criticism; the Nomi comparison names the one rival that competes on memory and companionship rather than images. From my test the honest answer to both is that Standard is the product and Nomi is the comparison worth making.
Trends says the brand is in the companion category, not the girlfriend category. The top related queries are Nomi, Replika and Character.AI, and the rising ones are 'character ai alternatives' (a breakout), wsup, joi, fictionlab, kalon, kupid and darlink. Demand for the name reached an all-time high in the week of August 30, 2026 and sits at 78 against that peak; the Character.AI exodus is the most plausible driver, and the rising girlfriend-site names show where comparison shoppers go when they want pictures.

Part 3 · Traffic rank and reach
How much traffic Kindroid gets, and where it ranks
How I track this: search-traffic estimates miss direct visits, apps and social, so for all-traffic reach I use Tranco, a daily ranking of every domain on the internet built from DNS and browser data (Cloudflare Radar, Cisco Umbrella, Majestic, Farsight and Chrome), and I check it against Google’s own Chrome UX Report each month. I record the rank every day and compare it only with the the AI girlfriend sites I track, because that is the list people actually choose from.
On the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, kindroid.ai ranked #83,126 among every domain worldwide, up 3,247 places since August 31, 2026, and Chrome's data puts it in the top 100,000 most visited sites. Among the AI girlfriend sites I track, that makes it #29, behind Live3D and BabeChat.

First the facts, each one derived from the table above and nothing else. Then the story I read in them.
The facts
| Finding | Detail |
|---|---|
| Traffic up 34% on the month | Estimated organic search traffic in September 2026 was 92,092 visits worldwide, +33.8% versus August 2026 and +129.1% versus September 2025. |
| Peak of 92.1K in Sep 26 | The 24-month peak was 92,092 visits in September 2026, which is the current month. |
| 31% of visits come from the United States | The United States accounts for 28,822 visits, followed by United Kingdom and Germany. |
| 74.0K people a month search the brand name in the US | Google Ads data puts US searches for "kindroid" at about 74,000 a month in August 2026 (+49.5% since September 2025), and worldwide searches at about 201,000. |
| 95% of top-keyword traffic is branded | 95% of the traffic from the top 10 US keywords comes from people typing the brand name, which indicates demand driven mostly by name recognition rather than generic search rankings. |
| 1.0K referring domains, Domain Rating 62 | 1,023 websites link to kindroid.ai, +117.2% over the last 12 months; its Domain Rating by Ahrefs is 62 and its DataForSEO domain rank is 47 (44 a year ago). |
| #29 among the AI girlfriend sites I track | Kindroid sits #29 among the sites I track on the combined data; it holds no tracked position for "ai girlfriend", so its reach across the internet carries more of the weight. Among all domains on the internet it ranks 83,126th in the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, up 3,247 places since August 31, 2026; Google's Chrome UX Report places it in the top 100,000 most visited sites worldwide. |
| YouTube's Kindroid is a power user's manual: four staff-run tutorials, one honest app review, a Replika comparison it wins and a testimony | Of the 7 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 2 are positive, 1 is mixed, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative. YouTube treats Kindroid as software to be configured: the staff tutorials and the comparison agree it has the deepest memory and customisation in the category, and they are equally clear that calls are now metered and the product needs days of setup. |
My take: the story in the numbers
What moved, and why I think it moved: the numbers read together, with the reviews in hand.
The cleanest growth curve of any brand I track, and it is demand-led. Worldwide organic traffic went from 13,700 visits in October 2024 to 40,200 in September 2025, 52,100 in March 2026, 68,800 in August and 92,100 in September 2026, a new peak, up 129% on a year earlier and 34% on the month. There is no collapse anywhere in the series; the worst month-on-month move in two years is a 4% dip. The US series has the same shape, 5,600 to 28,800, and the name explains it: 'kindroid' and 'kindroid ai' are 75,000 US searches a month between them, and brand demand stepped from 49,500 in February 2026 to 60,500 in March and 74,000 by May.
The spring 2026 step is the Character.AI exodus, and I can see it in three places. Google Trends for the name went from 48 in February to 68 in March, 88 in May and an all-time high in the week of August 30; 'character ai alternatives' is a breakout query beside it; and the subreddit's 2026 newcomer threads name Character.AI, Replika's rebuild and the retirement of ChatGPT's 4o model as the reasons people arrived. Kindroid ranks for almost nothing generic (395 US keywords, not in the top 20 for 'ai girlfriend'), so this is not a ranking story. People typed the name because other products changed.
September's 34% jump has a product behind it. The V2 redesign and the Polaris model landed in late summer, the staff's 'V2 Redesign' stream is a month old, and the Trends peak is August 30. A redesign that gets existing users talking and lapsed users logging in is exactly the signal 'kindroid login' at 2,400 searches a month points to. Whether September's level holds depends on whether those were returning subscribers or new ones; the brand-volume figure for September will tell me.
The link profile is tiny and almost irrelevant. 1,023 referring domains against CrushOn's 14,700, a DataForSEO domain rank of 47, and a backlink count that jumped from 3,700 to 17,900 in December 2025 while domains barely moved, which is one sitewide placement, not coverage. A site that doubles its traffic with a tenth of its rivals' links is being found by name and through the app stores (Apple is its top 'competitor' by shared keywords), and that is the healthiest kind of growth and the hardest kind for me to forecast from search data alone.
What people say explains why the curve has no churn in it. The praise, memory, freedom, voices, a staff that answers, is what earns recommendations on Replika and Character.AI refugee threads, and in a September 2026 tally of Reddit recommendations I read for another profile Kindroid had the most unique recommenders of any app. The complaints, metered calls, model retirements, weak NSFW images, the monitoring policy, are things the fans grumble about and pay through; the one negative thread in 22 was posted outside the subreddit. A community like that does not show up as a dip in the traffic, which is why the series is so smooth.
Verdict. Growing on every indicator: traffic up 129% year on year and at its peak, brand searches up 49%, Trends at an all-time high, referring domains up three and a half times, Tranco improving to 83,126 (#29 of the AI girlfriend sites I track). The risks are regulatory, with age checks arriving in Australia and Europe, and reputational, if the metered calls or the chat monitoring ever turn the fans. If brand searches hold above 74,000 through the autumn, the September peak is a new base; if they fall back to 60,500, the redesign bump was a reunion rather than growth.

Unique referring domains pointing to kindroid.ai. More linking sites usually means more staying power in Google.
Links are still being earned (+117.2% in 12 months), which is what I want to see behind a traffic recovery: it suggests the growth is backed by the wider web, not just one ranking.

In short
What I learned, and what I expect next
Pulling it together, from my own paid test, from what users say, and from my indicators: Kindroid is growing right now. Here is the whole picture in a few lines, then the scorecard behind it.
How it is performing
Kindroid drew an estimated 92,092 visits from Google search in September 2026, +33.8% on August 2026 and +129.1% on a year earlier. Over the last quarter the trend is growing (+36.6% against the three months before). Counting all traffic, it is #29 among the AI girlfriend sites I track, behind Live3D and BabeChat.
Reading the trend with the reviews in hand: the traffic line is a demand line, because almost every visit arrives by name, and what people praise (memory, no filter, voices, a company that answers) is exactly what earns a recommendation when Replika, Character.AI or ChatGPT change their rules, which is where each step in the curve comes from. What they criticise (metered calls, model retirements, weak NSFW images, the 2025 monitoring policy, days of setup) is what the fans pay through and what newcomers find out after the trial, so it shows up in the price complaints in the press rather than in the search numbers. The two things to watch are the age-verification rules spreading from Australia and whether September's redesign bump holds in the brand-volume figure.
What changed
Brand demand is the standout: about 74,000 US searches a month (+49.5% year on year) and 201,000 worldwide. Demand and traffic are rising together, which is the healthiest pattern there is. In popularity terms it has climbed 3,247 places since August 31, 2026. Links are still being earned (+117.2% in 12 months). On the reputation side: of the 7 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 2 are positive, 1 is mixed, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative. YouTube treats Kindroid as software to be configured: the staff tutorials and the comparison agree it has the deepest memory and customisation in the category, and they are equally clear that calls are now metered and the product needs days of setup. Reddit is the fan base and it is loyal: seven of ten threads are positive, the praise is for memory, freedom and the relationship itself, and the complaints are model retirements, weak NSFW images and a monitoring policy that broke the founding promise.
What I expect
With demand, traffic and links moving the same way, I expect Kindroid to keep gaining ground over the next few months. The thing that would change my mind is a month-on-month drop that repeats, which is why I refresh these figures monthly. 3 of its 8 closest search rivals currently get more US search traffic than it does, which is the gap to watch.

What I will check next month
- Whether September 2026’s traffic figure held, rose or fell once the next month is in.
- Whether US brand searches move out of the 74.0K band they have sat in.
- Whether the Tranco rank keeps the direction it showed over the last 30 days.
- Whether the rival names rising next to it in Google Trends (kupid ai) keep climbing while its own searches hold.

Part 7 · Method
How I measured all this
I bought a Kindroid membership and tested it myself, and I come at the write-up as a data researcher. Everything on this page is measured, because the whole point of this site is to rank AI girlfriend platforms by real usage and interest rather than by anyone’s taste, and every brand page uses the same indicators in the same order so they can be compared. I pulled every figure on October 7, 2026.
- Traffic, keywords, backlinks, competitors, WHOIS
- From DataForSEO, refreshed monthly. “Organic traffic” is an estimate of visits from Google results, modelled from the keywords a site ranks for. It leaves out direct visits, app traffic, paid ads and social referrals, so the real audience is bigger; that is why I also show an all-traffic popularity rank.
- Brand search volume
- Google Ads keyword data via DataForSEO. Google rounds these into bands, which is why months often repeat the same figure.
- Domain Rating
- Domain Rating by Ahrefs, a 100-point measure of backlink strength, published under Ahrefs’ Domain Rating license. The DataForSEO domain rank is a separate 100-point backlink score.
- Popularity rank
- The Tranco list, an academic ranking of the top million domains built from DNS and browser data; a rank, not a visit count. The Chrome UX Report tier is Google's own popularity bucket from real Chrome users.
- Trends, videos, forums, press, search suggestions
- Google Trends is relative interest on a 0 to 100 scale, not a count. News, YouTube, Reddit and autocomplete data come through SerpApi from public Google and YouTube results; video views are summed across the videos I found. For the most-watched videos I also pull the caption transcript through SerpApi, read it in full, and write a short account of what the video says plus my own conclusion; videos without captions are listed by title only. For Reddit I read each thread Google surfaces directly from reddit.com in a browser, record its upvotes, comment count and top comments as they stood that day, screenshot the post as it is publicly visible, and classify it after reading; threads with no analysis yet are listed by title. Press articles are read in full and classified the same way; pages that block automated readers are marked as unread. The category search check is a live Google result for the category's own term (United States, desktop) via DataForSEO. Discord counts come from the server's public invite page.
- Hands-on testing
- I purchased a Kindroid membership and used the product myself: chat, memory, images and the paid extras. My own test tells me what each feature does; the verdict on each feature comes from what users publish, because for a brand this size their view is more grounded than one reviewer's.
- Rounding and independence
- Figures are rounded for display; charts show the exact values. Top AI Girlfriends is not affiliated with DataForSEO, Ahrefs, SerpApi, Google, or Kindroid.
Part 8 · Final verdict
One last word on Kindroid
Kindroid is the companion app the others are measured against, and a month with it convinced me the measurement is fair. The memory system is the best I have used, the conversation stayed in character for weeks, the voices are the most natural at the price, and screen sharing, proactive messages and a lip-synced avatar are things no rival offers. The demand backs it: 74,000 US searches for the name a month, an all-time high on Google Trends, and traffic up 129% in a year with no collapse in the series.
It is also a product that asks for your labour and then meters your calls. The staff's own tutorials run to three hours and say 'it's you, not the code'; a kin needs days of correction before it is stable and a rewrite when its model is retired; voice calls that were unlimited now draw audio credits at 400 a minute; the NSFW images trail Candy's; and in 2025 the company began automated chat monitoring after promising nobody would police private thoughts. The praise is about depth and presence; the complaints are about what depth costs in time and credits.
Who should pick it: anyone who wants one companion that remembers for years, is willing to write and maintain a backstory and journals, and mostly chats and calls rather than generates pictures. Who should not: anyone who wants a companion that works out of the box, anyone whose main interest is explicit images, and anyone who talks on calls for hours and will not watch a meter.
Where it stands today: #29 of the AI girlfriend sites I track, the fastest-growing of the brands I profiled this month, with a reputation that is devoted on its own subreddit, respectful in the press and candid on YouTube because the staff run the tutorials. If the September peak holds in the brand searches it keeps climbing my ranking; if age checks or another trust pivot cool the fan base, the demand line that carries everything here would be the first thing to show it.
