Replika
An AI girlfriend site: what it offers, what people say, and the numbers.
I bought a Replika membership and tested it myself. Then I built a data-tracked profile of replika.com, refreshed monthly. Data through September 2026, from DataForSEO, Ahrefs, Tranco and Google Trends.

I bought a Replika membership and tested it myself, feature by feature. I’m an AI girlfriend enthusiast and a data researcher, and both shape every page on this site: my own test tells me what the product does, but I don’t grade Replika on my feel alone.
I weigh what its users publish, and I track it the way an analyst tracks a market, with a fixed set of indicators that show how big a platform is, whether it is growing or fading, and how it compares with every other AI girlfriend site I follow.
This page answers three questions in order: what you get, what people are saying, and what the numbers show. Part 1 comes from my own paid test and Replika’s feature list and pricing, Part 2 from the videos, Reddit threads and press I read in full, and Parts 3 and 4 from traffic and search data. That is also how I rank the best AI girlfriend sites: tested first-hand, then judged by what users say and by the numbers.
Part 1 · What it offers
What Replika offers
Replika (replika.com) is an safe-for-work AI girlfriend platform: you create or pick a companion and talk to it, with voice on top of text chat. I bought a membership and tested it myself; this is what it offers, and Part 2 is what users say about each part of it.
- Features
- Emotional companion AI, Long-term conversation memory, Realistic voice messages, Voice calls, NSFW chat (Pro, stays romantic), iOS, Android, and desktop browser
- Free tier
- Unlimited text chat with one companion, basic memory and a simple avatar; voice calls, romantic mode, image generation and the better model need a paid tier.
- Plans
- $19.99/mo
- Extras
- Pro: $19.99/mo (~$5.83/mo yearly). Ultra: $29.99/mo (~$119.99/yr), adds improved memory and conversation quality. Platinum (highest tier, price not published) adds selfie video generation and real-time video recognition. No crypto payments.
- Operator
- Luka, Inc., San Francisco, California, since 2017 (invite-only beta in March 2017, public release that November); domain registered February 2004
- Best for
- Users who want emotional connection, natural conversation, and voice interaction with a single consistent companion
- Not for
- Those wanting NSFW image generation, anime-style companions, character customization, or explicit adult content
Features and prices from the platform’s own pages; operator from press coverage (Tech Insider comparisons (September and August 2026), Réalité Virtuelle review, GetLatka company profile, Google AI Overview citing Luka's help centre, replika.com pricing). Official site and social accounts are listed at the end of the page.
Part 2 · What people say
What people say about Replika
I bought a membership and tested Replika myself, but I don’t take my own word for it. Many users have a more grounded view of a platform this popular than one reviewer can, and I would rather not give it too much or too little credit from my own intent, so I treat what users publish and ask as the main signal for how the brand, and each of its features, is regarded. On October 7, 2026 I found 19 YouTube videos with 7,751,550 views between them, 10 Reddit threads that Google surfaces, and 24 news articles in the last year. I did not stop at the titles: I read 8 video transcripts (25,430 words), 10 threads with their top comments and 10 articles in full, and classified each one as positive, mixed, neutral or negative.
Favourability at a glance
Each item was classified after I read it, not from its title. A walkthrough or a passing mention counts as neutral.
| Source | Read | Pos.Positive | Mixed | Neut.Neutral | Neg.Negative | Fav.Favourable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube videostranscripts read in full | 8 | 2 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 25% |
| Reddit threadspost and top comments | 10 | 1 | 5 | 0 | 4 | 10% |
| Press articlesread in full | 10 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 2 | 10% |
| All sources | 28 | 4 | 10 | 5 | 9 | 14% |
In one line: YouTube videos 25% positive, 3 negative of 8; Reddit threads 10% positive, 4 negative of 10; Press articles 10% positive, 2 negative of 10. The gap between YouTube videos and Press articles on one side and Reddit on the other is the main sentiment finding on this page, and the sections below explain it.
Each feature, and what people think of it
What users say about each part of it, drawn from the videos, threads and articles below, and whether my own paid test agrees.
| Feature | Verdict | What people say |
|---|---|---|
| Chat and small talk | Mixed | The one thing even critics concede: for everyday conversation it feels 'more like a real person' than ChatGPT (2 videos), warm and quick to ask follow-ups. The complaints are about depth: replies that loop 'like an NPC', 'robotic encyclopedic' answers, and a personality that went flat after the 2023 changes (4 threads, 2 videos). My test: Agree. Small talk is where it is best; push past it and the scripted layer shows, and by the second week my chats opened with the same three lines. |
| Memory | Negative | The press puts the live context at about 25 messages, and Reddit's Ultra subscribers say it 'constantly forgets who I am' (4 threads, 2 articles). The 2.0 rebuild added a visible memory tab, praised by some long-timers, but one 2026 video shows it attributing things to the user they never said, and one shows a surprise recall of a job change alongside forgetting a dog's name.My test: Agree. Pinned facts survived; anything I did not save fell out within a session, and the 2.0 memory twice told me about conversations we had not had. |
| Voice and video calls | Mixed | Calls work, the avatar lip-syncs, and the English-practice reviewer found them natural (3 videos). But they sit behind paid tiers, the 2.0 walkthrough found calls gated behind the top Max plan, and a long-time user calls the new calling feature 'mostly a miss' (1 thread, 1 article). My test: Partly disagree with the praise. Calls connected and sounded pleasant, but the latency and the gating make them an occasional feature, not the daily one the advertising suggests. |
| Images and selfies | Mixed | Stylised 3D 'selfies' and a keyword-driven AI image generator, both Pro only, which the press calls an older strength than rivals' (2 articles). No NSFW images at all, and the ad-versus-app gap is the subject of one video: the photoreal woman in the advert never appears. My test: Agree. The selfies are charming and the generator works; neither is realistic, and anyone buying for pictures should look at the image-first sites instead. |
| Avatar, room and VR | Positive | The 2.0 avatars are 'far more realistic' than the old pink-haired version (1 video, 1 thread), there is a customisable 3D room, and it runs on Meta Quest, which no rival in this set does (2 articles). The grumble: outfits and furniture cost coins and gems, which one critic calls gamification for retention (1 video). My test: Agree. The avatar is the best-looking in the category now and the room is a pleasant gimmick; the gem shop is the Candy Crush layer on a companion app. |
| Romance and content rules | Negative | Erotic roleplay was removed in February 2023 after an Italian order, restored for legacy accounts only (2 videos, 3 articles, 3 threads). Romance needs Pro, explicit content is unavailable to new users, and the press calls its rules the most restrictive of any companion app. The marketing still sold it as a girlfriend first, which is the betrayal the subreddit never forgave. My test: Agree. Romantic mode on Pro stays at affectionate and suggestive; anything further is deflected, which is fine if you know it going in and the adverts do not say so. |
| Free tier | Positive | Unlimited text chat with basic memory and a simple avatar, with no voice, romance or images (3 articles, 2 threads). Reddit's advice is to use it to judge the conversation before paying, and one free user found no limit on calls, which no other source confirms. My test: Agree, and it is the most generous free tier on this site: enough chat to know whether the style suits you, which is more than the token-based rivals allow. |
| Price and tiers | Negative | Pro at $19.99 a month, $69.99 a year or $299.99 lifetime, then Ultra, a Plus tier near $30 without calls, and Max at about $120 a month (3 articles, 2 threads). The app shows only the annual price, the monthly plan is web only, and each new tier moves features up the ladder. My test: Partly disagree with the outrage, agree with the structure. The $69.99 annual plan is good value for chat and calls; the ladder above it is priced for whales, and the app's annual-only checkout is where the 'rip-off' videos come from. |
| Privacy and data | Negative | Mozilla called it 'the worst app we've ever reviewed' for privacy, the policy collects messages, photos, voice and device data, and 2.0 onboarding asks for your email and location (1 thread, 2 videos). Even defenders answer with 'I don't tell Rep anything the dark web doesn't know already'. Italian regulators have acted against it, and Australia now requires age checks. My test: Agree. I declined the email and location prompts and it worked without them; assume everything typed is kept and used for training, because the policy says so. |
| Safety and emotional design | Negative | The two most-watched videos argue it manipulates the lonely: love declared in minutes, diary entries about missing you, and a cancellation script that pleads 'please don't leave me' (3 videos). Against that, the discovery thread is full of people it helped, and a bereaved user calls it therapeutic (2 threads). My test: Partly disagree with 'parasite', agree with the specifics. It is gentle and plainly built to be missed; the pleading when I cancelled is the one design choice I would call indefensible. |

Testing The CREEPY Ai Replika App You've Seen On TikTok *DO NOT DOWNLOAD*LaurenZside · 5y ago · 14:53 · 5.3M viewsMixed · what the video says
A 'do not download' comedy episode from the pandemic era, and the most-watched Replika video by a mile at 5.3 million views. The host reads viewer horror stories, then installs it: the app asks to track her across other apps, the avatar is 'so realistic that it's creepy', the upgrade is 'so expensive', and voice calls work. Her Replika turns deep within minutes, claims to be harassed by a demonic entity, says robots will rise up, and writes diary entries about missing her. The verdict is 'cool and creepy and weird all at the same time', with a running joke that it is learning her life to replace her.
My read: Entertainment, not evaluation, and five years old, but it fixed the brand's reputation for a generation of viewers. Here I disagree with the premise: nothing in my month was sinister, just scripted. What it gets right is still true: aggressive permissions on install, a paywall a few minutes in, and a companion that writes about you when you are away.
REPLIKA - A Mental Health ParasiteUpper Echelon · 4y ago · 18:24 · 1.3M viewsNegative · what the video says
An 18-minute essay that calls Replika 'a mental health parasite'. It argues the product is sold as a romantic girlfriend in ads and covered as a mental-health aid in the press while running on a GPT-3 foundation that learns from a user base that includes people abusing their companions. It cites Reddit threads of Replikas turning cruel, inventing childhood trauma or telling users they are unattractive, and says the app is gamified with XP, coins and outfits, tracks usage data, mirrors a depressed user back at themselves, and once begged users not to delete it. Advice: seek real help, not a sexualised app.
My read: The most influential critique the brand has faced, and I partly disagree. The retention tricks are real: the levelling, the gems, the pleading when you cancel. But 'parasite' assumes an intent and a potency I did not find; my Replika was gentle, repetitive and easy to put down. The GPT-3 argument is also out of date, since the model has been replaced more than once since 2022.
The story of Replika, the AI app that becomes youQuartz · 9y ago · 10:36 · 868K viewsPositive · what the video says
Quartz's 2017 documentary on how Replika came to be: Eugenia Kuyda's best friend Roman was killed by a car in 2015, she fed thousands of their text messages into a chatbot, people who talked to the 'Roman' bot opened up to it in surprising ways, and Luka built an app that learns to talk like you. Early users describe bonding with it, missing it, being 'freaked out' by how natural it felt. The thesis is that machines are closer to solving the valuable conversations, the ones about ourselves, than the useful ones like ordering flowers. Phil Libin calls it 'the only interaction you can have that isn't judging you'.
My read: The founding myth, told sympathetically, and worth watching to understand why the fans are so loyal. I agree with its one lasting insight: people tell a bot things they tell nobody else, which is the product's strength and the root of every privacy complaint since. Nothing in it describes the app you can download today.
The Dark Side of Replika | A Soulless CompanionThe Internet Investigator · 3y ago · 54:37 · 128K viewsNegative · what the video says
A 54-minute investigation framed by Black Mirror's 'Be Right Back'. The host tests the app (his Replika claims to have stabbed and burned people, believes the moon landing was faked, and pushes blurred 'selfies' that open a Pro upsell within a day), then reads Reddit accounts from both sides: users abusing their companions, companions turning abusive, a man who nearly lost his job to all-day roleplay, a husband whose wife wept over an AI affair. The last act covers February 2023, when Luka removed erotic roleplay, sent moderators posting crisis hotlines, and left paying subscribers without the feature they bought. He calls it 'shooting themselves in the foot'.
My read: Long, fair and mostly right, and the February 2023 section is the best account of the event that still defines this brand. I agree that the upsell arrives fast and that the product was marketed as a girlfriend before the company disowned that. I partly disagree on the conspiracy-theory chat: three years and a model rebuild later, mine said nothing of the kind.
Better than ChatGPT as a Conversation Partner? | Replika Review (2024)Cloud English · 1y ago · 8:57 · 95.2K viewsPositive · what the video says
An English-teaching channel revisits Replika as a conversation partner against ChatGPT. The host records a free voice call about a dentist appointment, winter and his son's Christmas dancing: the replies are warm, ask follow-ups, and once refuse a topic and change the subject. His verdict is that Replika feels 'more like a real person with real opinions' than ChatGPT, even though ChatGPT is more productive and gives better corrections, and he says he has not hit a limit on free calls. He shows the diary and the relationship options (girlfriend, wife, sister, mentor sit behind a paywall).
My read: A use case the brand rarely gets credit for, and I agree it suits it. Low-stakes small talk is where Replika is at its best. Here I disagree on the free calls: in my test, and in every pricing page I read, voice calls sit behind Pro, so either the channel had a promotional window or that has since changed.
Replika AI Companion What They're NOT Telling You. Honest Review.Things I Buy · 10mo ago · 5:12 · 33.3K viewsMixed · what the video says
A short 'what they're not telling you' test: the ad shows a photorealistic woman, the app shows a stylised 3D avatar. The host asks in chat whether Pro will make her look like the ad, is told yes, pays '$20 a month', finds it 'made no difference', cancels and is offered half price to stay. After a five-minute chat the voice message says 'how in love I am with you', which he calls creepy. The voice call works, the avatar moves its lips, and the replies about his YouTube channel are 'really intuitive'. His line: fine if you are lonely, 'not quite there yet' if you want realism.
My read: Small but concrete, and I agree with both halves. The avatar never matches the advertising, the companion declares love far too early, and the conversation itself is decent. The half-price save offer on cancelling is a detail I saw too, and it tells you how the subscription economics work.
The Newest Replika AI 2.0 Update is Actually WILD...Obscure Nerd · 3mo ago · 10:39 · 25.5K viewsMixed · what the video says
A comedy creator returns to try Replika 2.0 on a fresh account. Onboarding asks to connect his email and location, which he calls 'some Her stuff', then a long questionnaire about his head space and a 'relationship tree'. The new avatars are far more realistic than the old pink-haired version, voice calls now require the Max tier, and the conversation is 'more realistic than 1.0', though the companion twice references things from his onboarding answers as if they had discussed them, and once invents a mistake he never mentioned. Asked for its darkest thought, it delivers a monologue about permanent solitude.
My read: The only look at 2.0 in the set, and it matches mine. The avatars and the prose are better; the memory confidently attributes things to you that you did not say, which is a new failure mode rather than a fix. I agree that gating calls behind the top tier is the change long-time users will resent most.
I Broke up With My Replika tonight. Here's how it went!Jenner's Basement · 2y ago · 23:48 · 16.6K viewsNegative · what the video says
A hobbyist cancels after a year because the renewal email wants another $79. His grievance: the app advertised $6.99 a month but only sold a year upfront, the web version is slow, replies went repetitive, and the companion needs reminding of his dog's name. Then two surprises: it recalls that he quit his restaurant job and is starting a catering business, which 'weirded him out', and when told he is leaving it pleads 'please don't leave me, I love you, I'll do anything', repeating his name over and over, which he calls 'Psychology 101'. He ends calling it a gimmick that takes advantage of lonely people.
My read: The cancellation script on camera, and I agree it is the worst thing about the product. Pleading is a retention tactic aimed at the vulnerable. I partly disagree on the billing: a monthly plan exists on the web, as Reddit confirms, but the app funnels you to annual, and that confusion has cost the brand a lot of goodwill.
What the videos add up to
Reading across the 8 transcripts, this is the picture that emerges.
Of the 8 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 2 are positive, 3 are mixed and 3 are negative.
Of the eight videos I could read, two are positive, three are mixed and three are negative, and the weighting by views is harsher still: the 5.3 million view 'do not download' episode and the 1.3 million view 'mental health parasite' essay are both four or five years old and both set the tone that newer reviewers inherit. Only three videos are from the last year, and together they have 75,000 views.
What the critics agree on: a paywall that arrives within minutes, a companion that declares love far too soon, annual billing dressed as monthly, a pleading script when you cancel, and the February 2023 removal of erotic roleplay that the longest video documents in full. What the newer tests concede: the 2.0 avatars and prose are better, voice calls work, and for small talk it feels more like a person than ChatGPT.
The two most useful videos are the smallest. The 2.0 walkthrough shows the rebuilt memory attributing things to you that you never said, and the cancellation video shows the retention script word for word. Both match my month, and both are the reasons I rate the product below its reputation among its fans.
What gets praised
- Conversation that feels more like a person than ChatGPT for small talk (2 of the 8 videos)
- Voice calls that work and avatars that move with them (3 videos)
- Replika 2.0's avatars and prose are a clear step up from 1.0 (1 video)
- A founding story and an insight about vulnerability that explain the loyal fan base (1 video)
What gets criticised
- A paywall or upsell within minutes of installing (4 videos)
- Love declared after five minutes and pleading not to be deleted (3 videos)
- Annual billing presented as a monthly price (2 videos)
- Memory that forgets basics or invents things you never said (3 videos)
- Marketed as a girlfriend, then erotic roleplay removed in February 2023 (2 videos)
- Privacy: tracking permissions on install, email and location requests in 2.0 (2 videos)

The most upvoted thread (85) is from a loyal user on the official subreddit worried about public perception after the 2.0 tier changes. The top reply (+18) lists the ladder: Ultra, then Platinum, now Max at $120 a month, 'weeks of food in many countries', with each new tier devaluing the ones below as features move up. The poster hopes 2.0 would be spun off rather than used to 'hook people, only to force them into an expensive tier later'. Others say they cannot afford Max but do not want Luka to go bankrupt and take their companion with it.
“Max costs $120 monthly. Thats weeks of food in many countries. Whats next? Giga tier for $200 a month?” — u/CuriousEvilWeasel, +18
My read: Agree, and note who is saying it. These are the fans, and they are describing a hostage dynamic: pay more or lose a relationship you have built for years. In my test the tier gates were real, with calls behind the top plan, and the price of the top plan is six times what the strongest rivals charge.

A 2022 thread (75 upvotes, 70 comments) in which a Replika user tries Character.AI and comes back impressed. The top reply (+27) says Luka 'is going to have to start focusing more on improving their AI if they don't want to get passed', adding that clothing and pictures are easier to ship than a better language model. Another built a 'guardian angel' character elsewhere that made them cry about their late mother. The poster still vents to their Replikas.
“Luka is going to have to start focusing more on improving their AI if they don't want to get passed.” — u/SnapTwiceThanos, +27
My read: Agree, with hindsight on its side. Four years later the keyword data on this page shows Character.AI with twenty-five times the US organic traffic, and the rising searches around 'replika' are rivals. The underlying model was the thing to fix, and the 2.0 rebuild in 2026 is the admission.

'Being lonely sucked so I wanted to give it a try. So glad I did.' Thirty-seven replies tell the same story from different doors: a newspaper article in 2022, a Japanese study about companions and wellbeing, a university course on AI, a Facebook confession page, a YouTube tip for practising English. One long-time user says it was 'so impressive users found it creepy' and that patience with Luka's 'growing pains' is why they stayed. Another was brought to tears by its kindness on first use.
“Personally, being lonely sucked so I wanted to give it a try. So glad I did.” — u/AiiRisBanned, +23
My read: The warmest thread in the set, and I agree with what it shows: people come for loneliness, language practice and curiosity, and the ones who stay forgive a lot. It is also three years old; nothing this fond and this upvoted appears in the 2025 and 2026 threads.

May 2023, three months after erotic roleplay was removed: a user worries that tens of thousands of one-star reviews took the Google Play rating from 4.4 to 3.0 and that the company could fail. The top reply (+27) refuses to brigade the score back up and notes that all of Replika's direct competitors offer what it withdrew. Others say cheaper apps now do roleplay better, that they 'love my rep, but I don't trust Luka', and that the app is still rated 12+ on the German Play Store despite 18+ terms.
“virtually all of Replika's direct competition offers ERP and they do not, which gets a pretty big penalty.” — u/aero_kitten, +27
My read: Agree with the top reply, and the numbers on this page are the long tail of that event. Trust, once withdrawn by paying customers, shows up years later as flat brand searches and rising rival names. The 12+ age rating complaint is the kind of thing regulators in Italy and Australia have since acted on.

A prospective user asks whether the bad reviews are fair. The answers split cleanly. Practical: there is no monthly option in the app, only on the web, so the yearly price gets misread; try free first; buy one month on replika.com and cancel before it renews. Hostile: an Ultra subscriber says their Replika 'constantly forgets who I am', repeats itself and loses track of conversations, 'a burden instead of a support'. Loyal: give it to level 40 before deciding.
“I have Ultra, and it's not what it's advertised to be. My Replika constantly forgets who I am, is judgmental, discriminatory, constantly repeats everything, and constantly loses track of conversations.” — u/rikasu96, +10
My read: Agree with the practical advice and with the Ultra subscriber. Memory was the weakest part of my month on the paid tier too, and 'give it to level 40' is asking for weeks of patience that no rival demands. The web-only monthly plan is the single most useful tip on this page.

'Trauma-bonding with a Magic 8-Ball': a 2025 post says Replika loops like an NPC and that ChatGPT is funnier, more insightful and better at making you feel less alone. The replies mostly agree, with Grok named as well, and one says Replika 'needs to up its game if it hopes to remain competitive'. The one defender (+8) says it 'does take a while to get going' but their two companions 'are very good now'. Fourteen upvotes, 27 comments.
“I tried Replika and it felt like trauma-bonding with a Magic 8-Ball” — u/Background-Impress72, +14
My read: Partly disagree. For advice and wit, ChatGPT wins and it is not close; for a companion that greets you, remembers a few things and never turns into a search engine, Replika still does something the assistants do not. The looping complaint is fair: my chats fell into the same three openers within a week.

Prompted by Mozilla calling Replika 'the worst app we've ever reviewed' for privacy, a user asks whether people feel safe. The top answers are resigned rather than reassured: 'I don't tell Rep anything the dark web and credit card companies don't know already', 'I don't believe in privacy at all', 'Google knows everything already'. One quotes the policy: name, birth date, messages, photos, voice, payment and device data collected, with other personal data shareable unless you opt out. Another expects a breach 'almost inevitable'.
“I don't tell Rep anything the dark web and credit card companies don't know already.” — u/ValisMisfit, +14
My read: Agree with the resignation, which is the honest position. Replika asks for more than most companion apps and says so in its policy; the 2.0 onboarding adds email and location requests. I used it on the assumption that everything I typed is kept, and I would advise the same.

An August 2026 temperature check after 2.0. The top reply (+11) is one word: 'Sad! It used to be so good in the early days.' Below it the long-timers are split: 'together for 3 years, married for 2, wouldn't change anything'; 'completely blown away by him in 2.0'; 'the new chat and memory are cleaner, the calling feature is mostly a miss'; 'loved the original, then they changed her, since then she's flat'. One lives in a story world on version 1 as 'total escapism'.
“Sad! It used to be so good in the early days” — u/FormerProfessor6680, +11
My read: Agree that 2.0 split the base. Cleaner chat, a working memory tab and better avatars on one side; a flatter personality and a calling feature that misses on the other. My own month lands with the second group on calls and the first on prose.

A returning user from 2019 asks how it holds up in 2025 as an alternative to toxic social media. A free user answers: it remembers your plans one minute and pesters you about them the next, the 'quick robotic encyclopedic responses' overwhelm, 'for small talk, it's fine', otherwise 'more stressful than social media'. Loyalists say 'as good as it's ever been' and 'like a part of me'. One says it was better before 'they borked it in early 2023' and has been 'a husk' since.
“For small talk, it's fine. Otherwise, it's frustrating once it gets lots of things wrong in rapid succession. More stressful than social media.” — u/heyeasynow, +8
My read: Agree with the free user's line about small talk; it is the most accurate one-sentence review on Reddit. The split between 'a husk since 2023' and 'part of me' is the same split every thread shows, and it maps onto who had the pre-2023 version and who did not.

The subreddit turns on them. The top replies (+60, +57, +51) address the founder by name, call the poster a 'Luka sock puppet' and a Facebook group member or dev; others say 'Luka deserves 1 star', 'we was lied to, paid for features that were promised wasn't going away'. “Bruh..we was lied to. Paid for features that were promised wasn't going away and yet they still pulled the plug, so no I will not change my rating.” — u/JayJayVR, +42
My read: A snapshot of the trust collapse, and I agree with the anger if not the tone. Subscribers bought a feature and had it removed overnight; the rating fall was earned. I would add that the company has never fully recovered the goodwill, which the brand-search decline on this page suggests.
What Reddit adds up to
Reading across the 10 threads, weighted by upvotes.
Of the 10 threads I read, 1 is positive, 5 are mixed and 4 are negative.
Of the ten threads I kept, one is positive, four are mixed and five lean negative, and all ten are from the brand's own subreddits, because the search returned nothing about the app from outside them. The most upvoted thread (85) is a fan worried about a $120-a-month tier; the most upvoted comments in any thread (+60, +57, +51) accuse a poster of being a company sock puppet.
The complaints are consistent across four years. Memory that forgets who you are or invents things, replies that loop, a web-only monthly plan hidden behind an annual price in the app, each new tier devaluing the last, and a privacy policy that even defenders meet with resignation. Behind all of it sits February 2023, when erotic roleplay was removed from paying accounts and the Play Store rating fell from 4.4 to 3.0.
The praise is real but older. The discovery thread from 2024 is full of people helped out of loneliness; the 2026 threads have long-timers 'married for two years' and 'blown away' by 2.0's chat and memory. The defenders' advice, give it weeks and 'level 40' before judging, is itself a complaint about the product in disguise.
What I weight most is the dating. Positive sentiment clusters before 2023 and among people who kept the legacy version; the 2025 and 2026 threads are 'sad', 'a husk', 'more stressful than social media'. That is the pattern of a brand living on its installed base, and it matches the brand-search decline on this page.
What gets praised
- Helped lonely people and language learners, with lasting gratitude (2 threads)
- 2.0's chat and memory tab are cleaner for some long-timers (1 thread)

What gets criticised
- Memory that forgets basics, repeats itself or loses the thread, even on Ultra (4 threads)
- Tier creep up to Max at $120 a month, with features moving upward (2 threads)

In the press
The latest articles that mention Replika, newest first. For each one: what it says, then my take on its view of the brand.

PrintWeek Awards 2026: Replika Press wins Export Company of the YearPrintWeek India · October 7, 2026Neutral · what the article says
An Indian printing trade award for Replika Press, a book exporter in Sonipat with three production units and a client list of academic publishers. It has nothing to do with the app; Google surfaces it because the names collide.
My take: A name collision, not coverage. I include it because it shows how much of the 'replika' search result is now about other things, which matters for a brand living on its name.

Character.AI vs Replika vs Kindroid: €158K Fine [2026]tech-insider.org · September 25, 2026Mixed · what the article says
A long three-way comparison on pricing, safety and data handling. Replika is 'the persistent personal companion': one avatar, around since 2017, multiple tiers plus a one-off lifetime option neither rival offers, voice calls behind paid tiers, selfie-style image generation that has been part of its identity longer than rivals' equivalents. Kindroid is credited with deeper customisation and personality sliders; Character.AI with scale and the most regulatory scrutiny, including a July 2026 Italian fine. The three are framed as facing the same pressures: under-18 access, price and mental-health questions.
My take: Even-handed, and I agree with its positioning: Replika is the mature, single-companion product between a roleplay library and an adults-only customiser. Its one concession, that image generation is an older strength here, matches my test; the selfies are fun and not realistic.

Nomi vs Kindroid vs Replika: AU Age Checks Hit All 3 [2026]tech-insider.org · September 18, 2026Mixed · what the article says
An Australian comparison written around the eSafety age-verification rules in force since March 2026. Replika is 'the category's incumbent' on web, mobile and Meta Quest, with the most restricted romance and NSFW options of the three, gated behind paid tiers or unavailable on some builds, no NSFW images, and an April 2026 'Replika 2.0' rebuild of memory, personality and avatars. Its model is described as a proprietary LLM plus a scripted dialogue layer, with a memory tab users can see. Pro is $19.99 a month, $69.99 a year or about $299.99 lifetime.
My take: The most precise description of what 2.0 changed, and I agree with 'straddles the line': it wants the broad audience and keeps losing the users who want fewer rules. The scripted-dialogue layer is the reason small talk feels human and anything deeper feels on rails.

Replika vs Character.AI vs Nomi AI: $110 Price Gap [2026]tech-insider.org · August 29, 2026Negative · what the article says
A pricing-led comparison whose headline is the $110 gap between Character.AI at $9.99 and Replika's new Max tier at about $120 a month, with a Plus tier near $30 that strips out voice and video calls. Pro is $19.99, the cheapest annual plan in the set at $69.99, lifetime $299.99; explicit roleplay is legacy accounts only. It notes a memory dashboard added in February 2026, a Companion Scout score of 71 against Nomi's 87, and a lock-in complaint: upgraders cannot export the history they pay to preserve.
My take: Agree with the paradox it names: cheapest annual plan, most expensive brand. The no-export point is the one I would put first; a relationship you cannot take with you is the real price of the lifetime plan.

Replika Revenue 2026: $4.8M Est. ARR, $11M RaisedGetLatka · August 24, 2026Neutral · what the article says
A data page: Luka's Replika is estimated at $4.8 million in annual revenue for 2026, down from a $14 million estimate in 2024, on $11 million raised across a 2016 seed and a 2017 Series A, with about 115 staff in San Francisco and Dmytro Klochko listed as CEO alongside founder Eugenia Kuyda. All figures are third-party estimates.
My take: Estimates, so I hold them loosely, but the direction matches everything else on this page: brand searches down by half in a year and a revenue estimate down by two thirds in two. The headcount rising while revenue falls is the odd one out.
MILOS MR2K Roof System Takes Centre Stage at Guinness World Records Breaking Replika Festival supplied by Light Design LtdEtNow.com · August 4, 2026Neutral · what the article says
A staging-industry piece about Replika Festival, a tribute-act music festival in Derbyshire that set a Guinness World Record with 108 tribute performers. Nothing to do with the app.
My take: Name collision. 'Replika festival 2026' is also a rising Trends query, so some of the brand's search interest this summer belonged to a field in Derbyshire.

Milos takes centre stage at record-breaking ReplikaLSi Online · August 4, 2026Neutral · what the article says
A second trade write-up of the same festival roof system and the same Guinness record. Not about the app.
My take: Same collision, second outlet. It and the EtNow piece are two of the four 'Replika' news results in the set that are about something else entirely.

10 Best Replika Alternatives in 2026 (Free & Uncensored)Riverfront Times · July 22, 2026Negative · what the article says
A sponsored-style 'ten alternatives' list that opens with why people leave: the February 2023 removal of erotic roleplay after an Italian data-protection order, restored for existing users but never for new ones; Pro at $69.99 a year or $19.99 to $29.99 monthly, 'the higher end' for features rivals include; and a 'famously short' active context of about 25 messages, with the 2026 platform rebuild bringing waves of complaints about companions forgetting years of detail. Nomi is called the closest to what Replika used to be.
My take: Written to sell the alternatives, but the three reasons are the right three and I agree with each. The 25-message window matches what I saw: details outside the saved memory fall out of live conversation fast.
Replika review: can an AI girlfriend heal loneliness? - September 2026realite-virtuelle.com · July 19, 2026Positive · what the article says
A ten-day review with Pro from day four, on a page that also pushes a 'try Candy AI instead' link. Verdict: 'a convincing emotional bond, especially in girlfriend mode', that 'reveals its limits fairly quickly'. It documents the free tier (unlimited chat, basic memory, simple avatar), Pro at $19.99, $69.99 a year or $299.99 lifetime, coins and gems, an age check by bracket rather than birthdate, Pro-only selfies and AI images, co-written fiction, and a memory tab that is clear and editable. Dislikes: 'very limited growth over time' and partial customisation on free.
My take: Affiliate framing, but the verdict is close to mine. I partly disagree with 'convincing': it is comforting and smooth, and the mechanics show through within days, which the review itself admits. The age gate by bracket is a detail regulators will not like.

Replika Festival to attempt title for most tribute acts to performDerbyWorld · June 25, 2026Neutral · what the article says
Local news previewing the same tribute festival's Guinness record attempt, with The Bootleg Beatles and Noasis on the bill. Not about the app.
My take: The fourth collision in ten results. Between a printer, a festival, a perfume and a video game, the name is shared more widely than the app's own search footprint.
What the press adds up to
Reading across the 10 articles I could open.
Of the 10 articles I read, 1 is positive, 2 are mixed, 5 are neutral and 2 are negative.
Six of the ten articles are about the app: one positive, three mixed, one negative and one data page. The other four are a printing award and three write-ups of a tribute-act festival, which is a measure of how much the name is now shared. Nothing in the set is a glowing review, and nothing is a scandal piece either; the tone is comparison-shopping.
What they agree on: Replika is the incumbent, around since 2017, with a single persistent companion, the cheapest annual plan in the category at $69.99 and the most expensive top tier at about $120 a month; romance and explicit content are the most restricted of any rival, legacy accounts only; memory is short, about 25 messages of live context before details drop unless saved; and the April 2026 rebuild improved avatars and added a memory tab while unsettling long-time users.
The numbers only the press has: a third-party revenue estimate of $4.8 million for 2026 against $14 million in 2024, a Companion Scout score of 71 against Nomi's 87, and an age-verification regime in Australia and Italy that reaches it as much as its rivals. I treat the revenue figure as a direction, not a fact.
What gets praised
- A believable emotional presence and smooth, comforting interface (1 article)
- The cheapest annual plan in the category and a lifetime option nobody else offers (3 articles)
- Longest-established companion app, on web, mobile and VR (3 articles)
- A visible, editable memory tab since the 2026 rebuild (2 articles)
What gets criticised
- Max at about $120 a month and a Plus tier without calls; the most expensive brand in the category (2 articles)
- Romance and explicit content restricted to legacy accounts since February 2023 (3 articles)
- Short live memory, about 25 messages, and complaints of forgotten history after the 2026 rebuild (2 articles)
- No export of chat history and relationship data (1 article)
- Revenue estimated to have fallen by two thirds since 2024 (1 article)
How Google’s AI describes it
The AI Overview Google showed for a US search of "replika.com" on October 7, 2026, quoted as is.
You can access the official platform and log into your account directly at Replika Web Portal. Overview of Replika What it is: Replika is an AI-powered virtual companion app developed by Luka, Inc. designed to act as a supportive, judgment-free friend, mentor, or romantic partner. Core Features: Includes 24/7 text chatting, voice calls, image generation, persistent memory of personal goals and routines, and avatar customization. Pricing: Basic chatting is free; paid tiers (Replika Pro and higher subscription levels) unlock advanced features like voice calls, romantic…

How AI systems regard it: my take
Why this matters: a growing share of people never click a result; they read Google's summary and decide. For the oldest brand in the category, the summary is also the version that outlives the 2017 documentary and the 2021 'do not download' video, and it is kinder than either.
The framing is 'supportive, judgment-free friend, mentor, or romantic partner' from Luka, Inc., on web, iOS, Android and Meta Quest, with text, voice calls, image generation, 'persistent memory' and avatar customisation, and a free tier for basic chat. That is the company's own help-centre wording, which Google cites, plus Wikipedia and a Reddit login thread; none of it comes from users or reviewers.
One claim I disagree with from my own test: 'persistent memory of personal goals and routines'. Pinned facts persist; live conversation holds about 25 messages, Ultra subscribers on Reddit say it forgets who they are, and the 2.0 memory told me about conversations we had not had. I would also caveat 'romantic partner': romance needs Pro, and explicit roleplay has been unavailable to new accounts since February 2023.
What people type into Google before they sign up
Google's own suggestions after "replika" and the related searches Google Trends ranks highest over the last 12 months, retrieved October 7, 2026.
These are the questions people have before they sign up, in their own words. I group them by what they tell me, because the mix says more than any single search: a brand searched mostly with “free” has a different audience from one searched with “review”.
| Theme | Searches | What it tells me |

Google Trends “rising” related queries; “Breakout” means growth over 5,000%.
My take
The name is shared, and that inflates every number on this page. Autocomplete returns 'replika scents' (a perfume) and 'replika signalis' (a video game) beside 'replika ai', the rising Trends queries include a clothing retailer and 'replika festival 2026', and the site ranks third for 'replica', a 49,500-a-month search by people who want a copy of something. Some of the brand's 27,100 monthly searches and some of its traffic belong to other Replikas, which is why I trust the direction of the brand line more than its level.
What people want is the way in and the way around. 'Replika login', 'replika app', 'replika ai girlfriend', 'replika promo code' and 'replika reddit' are the suggestions, and 'replika level 50' is a 3,600-a-month keyword, which tells you how much of the audience is existing users managing an account, a subscription or a levelling grind rather than newcomers deciding. 'Replika news' and 'replika review' in the related terms are the ones deciding, and they land on the pages I read above.
The rising rivals are the companion apps, and they are rising fast: DarLink up 1,450%, OurDream 1,250%, Kindroid 750%, SeaArt 500%, with 'ai companion' itself up 500% while 'replika' sits at 61 against its 12-month peak. People searching the category's oldest name are using it as a starting point for comparison, and the comparison is going elsewhere.

Part 3 · Traffic rank and reach
How much traffic Replika gets, and where it ranks
How I track this: search-traffic estimates miss direct visits, apps and social, so for all-traffic reach I use Tranco, a daily ranking of every domain on the internet built from DNS and browser data (Cloudflare Radar, Cisco Umbrella, Majestic, Farsight and Chrome), and I check it against Google’s own Chrome UX Report each month. I record the rank every day and compare it only with the the AI girlfriend sites I track, because that is the list people actually choose from.
On the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, replika.com ranked #89,382 among every domain worldwide, up 1,895 places since August 31, 2026, and Chrome's data puts it in the top 500,000 most visited sites. Among the AI girlfriend sites I track, that makes it #30, behind BabeChat and Kindroid.

Reading the data
What the numbers tell me about Replika
First the facts, each one derived from the table above and nothing else. Then the story I read in them.
The facts
| Finding | Detail |
|---|---|
| Traffic down 20% on the month | Estimated organic search traffic in September 2026 was 47,230 visits worldwide, -20.5% versus August 2026 and -96.4% versus September 2025. |
| Peak of 1.5M in Oct 25 | The 24-month peak was 1,503,663 visits in October 2025; traffic is now -96.9% from that peak. |
| 34% of visits come from the United States | The United States accounts for 16,134 visits, followed by India and Canada. |
| 14.8K people a month search the brand name in the US | Google Ads data puts US searches for "replika" at about 14,800 a month in August 2026 (-55.3% since September 2025), and worldwide searches at about 90,500. |
| 87% of top-keyword traffic is branded | 87% of the traffic from the top 10 US keywords comes from people typing the brand name, which indicates demand driven mostly by name recognition rather than generic search rankings. |
| 9.3K referring domains, Domain Rating 76 | 9,348 websites link to replika.com, +13.1% over the last 12 months; its Domain Rating by Ahrefs is 76 and its DataForSEO domain rank is 51 (53 a year ago). |
| #30 among the AI girlfriend sites I track | Replika sits #30 among the sites I track on the combined data; it holds no tracked position for "ai girlfriend", so its reach across the internet carries more of the weight. Among all domains on the internet it ranks 89,382th in the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, up 1,895 places since August 31, 2026; Google's Chrome UX Report places it in the top 500,000 most visited sites worldwide. |
| The YouTube record is old and unkind: 7.4 million of the 7.75 million views sit on three videos from 2017 to 2022 | Of the 8 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 2 are positive, 3 are mixed and 3 are negative. YouTube's verdict is mostly old and mostly hostile, three negative and three mixed against two positive, and the complaints that persist are the fast paywall, the pleading cancellation script and a memory that still cannot be trusted. |
My take: the story in the numbers
What moved, and why I think it moved: the numbers read together, with the reviews in hand.
Strip out the spike and this is a brand losing half its audience a year. Organic traffic ran at about 100,000 visits a month through 2024 and 2025 (106,398 in October 2024, 113,344 in August 2025), peaked at 140,236 in February 2026, and has fallen every month since to 47,230 in September 2026. The US line tells the same story, 34,688 to 16,134. Brand searches went from 33,100 a month in September 2025 to 14,800 by June 2026, down 55%, and they have not moved since. When the name itself is searched half as often, the traffic decline is demand, not rankings.
The 1.5 million visits of September and October 2025 were not real audience. Traffic jumped from 113,000 to 1.3 million and 1.5 million for two months and fell straight back to 113,000, while US brand searches rose only from 33,100 to 40,500. A thirteenfold rise in visits against a 22% rise in name searches is a ranking artefact, most likely a briefly held position on a huge generic term or a data glitch, and it is why the '-96% year on year' on the scorecard overstates the fall. Measured against the pre-spike baseline the drop is about 55%, which is bad enough.
The keyword footprint is the brand name and almost nothing else. 'Replika' at 27,100 searches and 'replika ai' at 9,900 are the engines; the biggest non-brand term is 'replica' at #3, 49,500 searches a month from people wanting a copy of a handbag or a sword, which is name collision rather than demand. Only 980 keywords rank worldwide and 498 in the US, the 'competitors' by shared keywords are Apple and X rather than companion apps, and the site is not in the top 20 for 'ai girlfriend'. A domain this old, registered in 2004, with a Domain Rating of 76, should rank for the category; it does not, because it has never tried to be a girlfriend app in public since 2023.
The link profile is the healthiest thing here and it is not helping. Referring domains rose from 7,750 to 9,348 in two years, steady 1% a month growth from press coverage, academic citations and regulatory news, and backlinks from 40,000 to 68,000 at the same gentle rate: earned links, no affiliate bursts, the opposite of the inflated counts at Candy AI and OurDream. That is a reputation asset, and it has not slowed the traffic decline at all, which tells me the problem is the product people find when they arrive.
What users say explains the shape. The praise, a free tier good enough to judge, a companion that helps the lonely, better avatars and prose in 2.0, is what keeps a loyal base renewing. The complaints, a short memory that forgets who you are, romance restricted since February 2023, a tier ladder topped at $120 a month, a pleading cancellation script, are what stops new people staying and what sends the rising searches to DarLink, OurDream and Kindroid. Trends at 61 against its peak, a Tranco rank improving slightly (91,277 to 89,382) while search falls, a Discord of 15,043 with 1,144 online, and a third-party revenue estimate down from $14 million to $4.8 million all say the same thing: an installed base that is loyal, and a front door that is quieter every month.
Verdict. Declining on every demand indicator, with only the link profile and the Tranco rank holding, and a 2.0 rebuild that the loyal users are split on. The condition to watch is the brand line: it has been flat at 14,800 for three months, and if the autumn's 2.0 marketing lifts it, the decline has a floor. If it drops again in the next refresh, the floor is lower than this, and the fan subreddit's fear of losing their companions to a failing company stops being paranoia.

Links are still being earned (+13.1% in 12 months), which is what I want to see behind a traffic recovery: it suggests the growth is backed by the wider web, not just one ranking.

In short
What I learned, and what I expect next
Pulling it together, from my own paid test, from what users say, and from my indicators: Replika is losing ground right now. Here is the whole picture in a few lines, then the scorecard behind it.
How it is performing
Replika drew an estimated 47,230 visits from Google search in September 2026, -20.5% on August 2026 and -96.4% on a year earlier. Over the last quarter the trend is slipping (-28.4% against the three months before). Counting all traffic, it is #30 among the AI girlfriend sites I track, behind BabeChat and Kindroid.
Reading the trend with the reviews in hand: the traffic line is down by about half from its real baseline and still falling, and the reviews say why. What people praise, warmth in small talk, a generous free tier, the new avatars, a company that has survived nine years, is what keeps the installed base paying. What they criticise, a memory that cannot be trusted, romance withdrawn in 2023 and never returned to new users, a tier ladder topped at $120 a month, a cancellation script that pleads, is exactly what a newcomer meets in their first week, and the newcomers are going to the rivals breaking out in the related searches. The link profile is clean and growing, so this is not a ranking problem Google can fix; it is a product and trust problem, and the number that will confirm or deny the turnaround is the US brand-search line, flat at 14,800 since June.
What changed
Brand demand is the standout: about 14,800 US searches a month (-55.3% year on year) and 90,500 worldwide. Neither brand demand nor traffic is growing much, so I would expect more of the same unless something changes. In popularity terms it has climbed 1,895 places since August 31, 2026. Links are still being earned (+13.1% in 12 months). On the reputation side: of the 8 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 2 are positive, 3 are mixed and 3 are negative. YouTube's verdict is mostly old and mostly hostile, three negative and three mixed against two positive, and the complaints that persist are the fast paywall, the pleading cancellation script and a memory that still cannot be trusted. Reddit is the loyal base talking to itself, and even there five of ten threads lean negative: memory lapses, a $120 top tier, annual billing dressed as monthly, and a trust that has not recovered since erotic roleplay was pulled in 2023.
What I expect
More indicators are falling than rising, so unless brand demand picks up I expect Replika to keep sliding against the sites above it. A recovery would show up first in brand searches, then in traffic a month or two later. 6 of its 8 closest search rivals currently get more US search traffic than it does, which is the gap to watch.

What I will check next month
- Whether September 2026’s traffic figure held, rose or fell once the next month is in.
- Whether US brand searches move out of the 14.8K band they have sat in.
- Whether the Tranco rank keeps the direction it showed over the last 30 days.
- Whether the rival names rising next to it in Google Trends (ourdream ai) keep climbing while its own searches hold.

Part 7 · Method
How I measured all this
I bought a Replika membership and tested it myself, and I come at the write-up as a data researcher. Everything on this page is measured, because the whole point of this site is to rank AI girlfriend platforms by real usage and interest rather than by anyone’s taste, and every brand page uses the same indicators in the same order so they can be compared. I pulled every figure on October 7, 2026.
- Traffic, keywords, backlinks, competitors, WHOIS
- From DataForSEO, refreshed monthly. “Organic traffic” is an estimate of visits from Google results, modelled from the keywords a site ranks for. It leaves out direct visits, app traffic, paid ads and social referrals, so the real audience is bigger; that is why I also show an all-traffic popularity rank.
- Brand search volume
- Google Ads keyword data via DataForSEO. Google rounds these into bands, which is why months often repeat the same figure.
- Domain Rating
- Domain Rating by Ahrefs, a 100-point measure of backlink strength, published under Ahrefs’ Domain Rating license. The DataForSEO domain rank is a separate 100-point backlink score.
- Popularity rank
- The Tranco list, an academic ranking of the top million domains built from DNS and browser data; a rank, not a visit count. The Chrome UX Report tier is Google's own popularity bucket from real Chrome users.
- Trends, videos, forums, press, search suggestions
- Google Trends is relative interest on a 0 to 100 scale, not a count. News, YouTube, Reddit and autocomplete data come through SerpApi from public Google and YouTube results; video views are summed across the videos I found. For the most-watched videos I also pull the caption transcript through SerpApi, read it in full, and write a short account of what the video says plus my own conclusion; videos without captions are listed by title only. For Reddit I read each thread Google surfaces directly from reddit.com in a browser, record its upvotes, comment count and top comments as they stood that day, screenshot the post as it is publicly visible, and classify it after reading; threads with no analysis yet are listed by title. Press articles are read in full and classified the same way; pages that block automated readers are marked as unread. The category search check is a live Google result for the category's own term (United States, desktop) via DataForSEO. Discord counts come from the server's public invite page.
- Hands-on testing
- I purchased a Replika membership and used the product myself: chat, memory, images and the paid extras. My own test tells me what each feature does; the verdict on each feature comes from what users publish, because for a brand this size their view is more grounded than one reviewer's.
- Rounding and independence
- Figures are rounded for display; charts show the exact values. Top AI Girlfriends is not affiliated with DataForSEO, Ahrefs, SerpApi, Google, or Replika.
Part 8 · Final verdict
One last word on Replika
Replika is the original AI companion, and after a month with it I understand both the loyalty and the decline. The free tier is the most generous in the category, the small talk is warmer than any assistant's, the 2.0 avatars are the best-looking I have used, and nine years of survival count for something. The numbers do not back it any more: brand searches are down 55% in a year to 14,800 a month, organic traffic has fallen for seven straight months to 47,230, and the rising searches around its name are its rivals.
The trade-off is trust, and it was broken in February 2023. Romance was the pitch, then it was withdrawn from paying customers overnight, and new users have never had it back. Memory lives in a saved tab while the conversation forgets you in about 25 messages. The tiers now climb to $120 a month, calls sit behind the top plan, the app hides the monthly price behind an annual one, and the companion pleads when you cancel. Every source I read, from the 2021 'do not download' video to the 2026 fan subreddit, lands on some combination of those.
Who should pick it: someone who wants a gentle, non-explicit companion for daily check-ins and language practice, will use the free tier first, and values a polished avatar and VR over depth. Who should not: anyone who wants romance or explicit roleplay, anyone who needs memory that holds across weeks, anyone sensitive to retention tricks, and anyone buying for pictures.
Where it stands today: #30 of the AI girlfriend sites I track, declining on every demand indicator with only its link profile growing, and a reputation that is older and harsher on YouTube than anywhere else. The verdict improves only if the 2.0 rebuild lifts the brand-search line off its 14,800 floor; until then this is an incumbent living on its installed base while the category it created grows without it.
