Joyland
An AI girlfriend site: what it offers, what people say, and the numbers.
I bought a Joyland membership and tested it myself. Then I built a data-tracked profile of joyland.ai, refreshed monthly. Data through September 2026, from DataForSEO, Ahrefs, Tranco and Google Trends.

I bought a Joyland membership and tested it myself, feature by feature. I’m an AI girlfriend enthusiast and a data researcher, and both shape every page on this site: my own test tells me what the product does, but I don’t grade Joyland on my feel alone.
I weigh what its users publish, and I track it the way an analyst tracks a market, with a fixed set of indicators that show how big a platform is, whether it is growing or fading, and how it compares with every other AI girlfriend site I follow.
This page answers three questions in order: what you get, what people are saying, and what the numbers show. Part 1 comes from my own paid test and Joyland’s feature list and pricing, Part 2 from the videos, Reddit threads and press I read in full, and Parts 3 and 4 from traffic and search data. That is also how I rank the best AI girlfriend sites: tested first-hand, then judged by what users say and by the numbers.
Part 1 · What it offers
What Joyland offers
Joyland (joyland.ai) is an adult AI girlfriend platform: you create or pick a companion and talk to it. I bought a membership and tested it myself; this is what it offers, and Part 2 is what users say about each part of it.
- Features
- Large pre-built and community character roster, SFW and NSFW interaction modes, Extended roleplay session support, Character discovery and browsing interface
- Free tier
- The free tier gives 50 credits and 3 images a day with the safety filter on and no NSFW; credits reportedly dropped to 10 a day at times.
- Plans
- Free
- Extras
- Free ad-supported tier with daily credits, Standard at $9.99/month ($107.99/year), Premium at $19.99/month ($191.99/year, unlimited image generation). Browser-based with mobile-responsive design.
- Operator
- Generatively Inc., a Delaware company (the iOS app is published under the name Eldoria Pte. Ltd.), Delaware, United States (company registration as reported by Techi and About Chromebooks; the site publishes no street address I could find), since 2023 (the domain dates from April 2023, the subreddit's first-impressions thread is from September 2023, and Techi dates the public launch to December 2023); domain registered April 2023
- Best for
- Users wanting variety across character styles and SFW/NSFW modes at a budget-friendly price
- Not for
- Users requiring voice interaction, image generation depth, or a native mobile app
Features and prices from the platform’s own pages; operator from press coverage (Techi, About Chromebooks, Plisio, SSJ Ryaku (YouTube)). Official site and social accounts are listed at the end of the page.
Part 2 · What people say
What people say about Joyland
I bought a membership and tested Joyland myself, but I don’t take my own word for it. Many users have a more grounded view of a platform this popular than one reviewer can, and I would rather not give it too much or too little credit from my own intent, so I treat what users publish and ask as the main signal for how the brand, and each of its features, is regarded. On October 7, 2026 I found 8 YouTube videos with 16,492 views between them, 3 Reddit threads that Google surfaces, and 3 news articles in the last year. I did not stop at the titles: I read 8 video transcripts (4,649 words), 3 threads with their top comments and 4 articles in full, and classified each one as positive, mixed, neutral or negative.
Favourability at a glance
Each item was classified after I read it, not from its title. A walkthrough or a passing mention counts as neutral.
| Source | Read | Pos.Positive | Mixed | Neut.Neutral | Neg.Negative | Fav.Favourable |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube videostranscripts read in full | 8 | 3 | 1 | 4 | 0 | 38% |
| Reddit threadspost and top comments | 3 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 67% |
| Press articlesread in full | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 50% |
| All sources | 15 | 7 | 3 | 4 | 1 | 47% |
In one line: YouTube videos 38% positive, 0 negative of 8; Reddit threads 67% positive, 1 negative of 3; Press articles 50% positive, 0 negative of 4. The gap between YouTube videos and Press articles on one side and Reddit on the other is the main sentiment finding on this page, and the sections below explain it.
Each feature, and what people think of it
What users say about each part of it, drawn from the videos, threads and articles below, and whether my own paid test agrees.
| Feature | Verdict | What people say |
|---|---|---|
| Chat and roleplay | Mixed | Praised for staying in character and for freedom: the comedy video found nothing stopped it and Plisio says it holds character 'better than most'. The recurring complaint is repetition and lost depth after the first minutes (the one critical video) and writing that leans on ellipses and 'blushing' (Techi, quoting a rival's test). My test: Agree. The first session was the best one; after a few dozen messages the phrasing started to loop and I had to steer harder than on Candy AI. |
| Memory | Negative | The most contested feature. Two promotional videos praise it; the critical video calls it inconsistent; Techi says independent tests show context collapse within 12 to 20 messages even on the $19.99 tier. Standard advertises 'unlimited short-term memory', which is a tell in itself. My test: Partly disagree with the harshest version. A detail from one session did come back in the next for me, but long scenes drifted and invented small things, so it is weaker than advertised rather than absent. |
| Image generation | Mixed | In-chat images in the character's anime art style are called the stronger suit (Techi), with 100 a day on Standard and unlimited on Premium (2 tutorials, Plisio). The ceiling is hard: no photorealism and no explicit images on any tier, and the free tier gets 3 a day.My test: Agree. Consistent anime-style images that match the character, and 3 a day is the free-tier limit you hit first; anyone wanting realistic or explicit pictures should look elsewhere. |
| Voice | Negative | Advertised in a three-year-old trailer and listed in Plisio's table as basic on free and full on paid, but Techi reports the only quality test called the text-to-speech cadence odd and some write-ups still describe real-time voice as 'coming'. A Reddit creator notes some bots have optional voice. My test: Agree. Voice was the weakest part of my month: available, stilted, and not something I would pay the Premium difference for. |
| Characters and customisation | Positive | The feature every source agrees on. Two tutorials walk through lore, scenario, greeting and example dialogue; Plisio shows that a detailed card transforms a bot; Techi counts about 60,000 community characters and supports importing .JSON and .PNG cards from other platforms. My test: Agree. The builder is deeper than any rival at this price, and example dialogue was the field that made my bots stop sounding generic. |
| Content filter | Mixed | Joyland's whole pitch is a looser filter than Character.AI, and the 2023 origin thread says explicit roleplay worked despite the FAQ. Since January 2025 the subreddit reports random 'please change the topic' locks, and Techi logs four filter trips in thirty days on a paid plan, with mobile moderating harder than web.My test: Partly disagree with the subreddit's worst week: in my month the filter interrupted a couple of adult scenes on the web and not a wink, so it was tuned down after January 2025 but it still trips on paid plans. |
| Free tier | Mixed | Every source describes the same thing: 50 credits and 3 images a day, no NSFW. Techi notes credible reports of both 10 and 50 credits, so the allowance has changed over time. The critical video says the limits arrive quickly; the tutorials treat it as enough to learn the platform. My test: Partly disagree with 'arrives quickly': 50 credits covered a session of plain chat for me; it is the three images that run out, and NSFW needs the card. |
| Price and credits | Mixed | Standard at $9.99 a month and Premium at $19.99 are verified against the App Store (Techi) and match Plisio and the tutorial. Credits meter the extras (about 10 for a character visual, 30 to reveal a chat image, 500 to unlock a character's gallery). Annual pricing is quoted anywhere from $95 to $191.99 across sources. My test: Agree on the monthly prices, which are what I paid. Standard is the right tier for most people; the Premium step buys unlimited images and a memory claim the sources do not support. |
| Privacy and billing | Mixed | Encryption, GDPR and Delaware privacy law are cited (2 articles), chats are stored, and one analysis says you can stay anonymous. Against that, Techi reports no PayPal and a bank statement that reads 'Joyland Ai', so there is no discreet billing. My test: Agree. The charge on my statement named the site, which is worth knowing before you use a shared card. |
| Safety and legitimacy | Mixed | A real company (Generatively Inc., Delaware) with published policies and a zero-tolerance line on minors, but the age check is a typed birthdate (2 articles), the iOS app is published as Eldoria Pte. Ltd. and rated 2.8 stars, and fake 'official' Joyland mirror sites pollute search results (Techi). My test: Agree. The sign-up gate was a date field and nothing more; type joyland.ai yourself and ignore any other 'official' domain. |
How I read this
The most-watched videos, and what they actually say
For each video I read the transcript, wrote down what it says, and added my own read on it. Most viewed first.
CONFUSING 18+ AI CHATBOTS | Joyland.AIShadowLynx6 · 2y ago · 4:27 · 7.2K viewsPositive · what the video says
A four-minute comedy session rather than a review: the creator opens a bot called Jazelle, announces that Joyland is 'a non-safe-for-work AI chatting site' and that he is 'here to troll', then spends the video stealing a character's shoes, nuking a toy factory and biting another bot until it passes out, laughing throughout. The one real observation is that nothing stopped him: 'you could really do anything', and two sentences were enough to steer a scene anywhere. No price, no memory test, no verdict beyond finding it hilarious.
My read: The most-watched Joyland video is about freedom, not quality. I agree that the filter is loose compared with Character.AI, which is why people come here. But this was recorded two years ago, before the January 2025 filter change that the Reddit thread below describes, and in my month the same kind of scene did get interrupted a few times.
Free chatbot platform with image & voice generator - Joyland AIMustacheAI · 3y ago · 2:02 · 6.9K viewsNeutral, no verdict · what the video says
A two-minute promotional clip from three years ago with almost no speech: the captions catch a few lines of bot dialogue ('a small slice of your unstained heaven', 'hello, how's everything going') over a montage of character images. The title is the content: it sells Joyland as a free chatbot platform with an image and voice generator. There is no walkthrough of either feature, no pricing and no opinion, so it tells a newcomer only that images and voice exist and that the art style is anime.
My read: A trailer, not a test. I take nothing from it except that voice and images were being advertised as headline features three years ago. In my test the images were the better of the two; voice is gated to paid plans and sounded stilted, which matches what the press says further down. Treat the title as marketing.
The ins and outs of Joyland.aiSSJ Ryaku · 2y ago · 10:35 · 1.7K viewsNeutral, no verdict · what the video says
A ten-minute tour by a creator who has built 40 bots. He shows the asterisk convention for actions, saving and restarting chats, the bot gallery, themes and profile pages, and reads the plans off the screen: free gets 50 credits a day and 3 images a day; Standard at $9 a month adds 5,000 credits, unlimited NSFW chats, 'unlimited short-term memory' and 100 images a day; Premium removes the limits. He also reads the About page (chatbots 'built and trained from the ground up') and shows quick, advanced and interactive-story creation plus Joybook, the shared-conversations feed.
My read: The clearest picture of what the tiers actually contain, and it matches the checkout I saw within a dollar (Standard is now $9.99). I agree with his implicit point that the free tier is for sampling: 50 credits covered a session of plain chat for me, and it was the 3 images a day that ran out first.
How to create your own chatbot on joyland aiItsMarcana · 9mo ago · 8:48 · 415 viewsNeutral, no verdict · what the video says
An eight-minute character-building tutorial recorded at Christmas. The creator walks through concept, avatar (draw it, upload AI art or use Joyland's generator), a short intro, name and gender, an age field with a hard upper limit, a description box capped at 5,000 characters that he fills with help from ChatGPT, scenario, greeting, lore entries that trigger on keywords, and example dialogue, which he calls the most important part because it teaches the bot how to talk. He then chats with the finished bot and shows it picking up his persona straight away.
My read: Useful and accurate about the builder. I agree that example dialogue does more than any other field: my own bots read as generic until I wrote a few exchanges in. The age cap and the 5,000-character limit are real, and the builder is deeper than most rivals at this price, which is the one thing every source on Joyland agrees on.
Joyland AI Review (2026): Honest Truth After Testing - Worth It or Not?Genius Firms · 6mo ago · 1:42 · 139 viewsMixed · what the video says
A 100-second verdict from a review channel: the first minutes are engaging, the characters seem distinct, and then 'cracks start showing'. Responses begin to repeat, conversations lose depth and memory feels inconsistent, until a character 'starts feeling like just another chatbot'. Custom characters are only as good as the model behind them, and the model is not strong enough to keep them unique. It is free to try but the limits arrive quickly. His conclusion: not bad, not groundbreaking, 'a concept with potential, not fully refined yet'.
My read: The one critical video, and it matches my month more than the praise does. I agree on repetition and on memory drifting in long scenes. I partly disagree on the free limits: 50 credits a day lasted me a proper chat session, and it was the three daily images, not the messages, that hit the wall first.
personas on joyland aiSHADOWHERO90 · 9mo ago · 1:50 · 103 viewsNeutral, no verdict · what the video says
A two-minute explainer, read from notes, on what a persona is on Joyland: a profile that tells the AI who you are in the chat, so replies stay personal and coherent instead of generic. It lists what personas do (consistent identity, role-play context, tailored responses), how to set one up (create or select, add name, role and background, start chatting) and that you can switch between personas for different scenarios without losing continuity. No demonstration on screen and no judgement on how well it works.
My read: Accurate as a glossary entry. Personas did what this video says in my test: the bot addressed me by the persona's name and used its background. Where I partly disagree is 'without losing continuity': switching persona mid-story confused the bot about who was speaking, so I kept one persona per chat.
Discover the Future of AI with Joyland AIASTRICK NATION · 2y ago · 1:20 · 80 viewsPositive · what the video says
An 80-second promotional voiceover that reads like a press release: Joyland makes the fantasy of 'conversations that never cease' real, you can chat with Socrates about philosophy or joke with a book character, and it 'launches in 2024' an innovative blend of technology and fun where you keep and create AI characters. Nothing is shown being used, nothing is priced, and the adult side of the platform that drives most of its traffic is never mentioned.
My read: Marketing copy, and the wrong marketing. Nobody I read uses Joyland to debate Socrates; the search data says people arrive for 'ai roleplay' and 'free ai character chat no restrictions'. I discount this one entirely, and the 2024 launch date is also off: the subreddit's first-impressions thread is from September 2023.
The New Era of Connection: Joyland AI AnalysisRoth Miklos · 9mo ago · 5:55 · 11 viewsPositive · what the video says
A six-minute scripted analysis in the two-host podcast style. It frames Joyland as AI built for connection rather than answers, credits 'memory systems' and temperature tuning for believable characters, and describes a 'rehearsal space' where users practise asking a boss for a raise or learning French. It calls the content policy 'libertarian', notes that NSFW drives the user base, says chats are encrypted with a filter toggle, and places Joyland between Character.AI (no adult content) and Chai (repetitive). It cites 30% of users practising social skills and 20% dealing with loneliness without a source.
My read: The positioning is right; the numbers are not. I agree that Joyland sits between Character.AI's filter and Chai's repetition, which is exactly its niche. I disagree with treating the 30% and 20% figures as data: no source is given, and the memory it praises is the feature the press and the critical video say fails. Read it as a well-made explainer, not evidence.
What the videos add up to
Reading across the 8 transcripts, this is the picture that emerges.
Of the 8 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 3 are positive, 1 is mixed, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative.
Half of the eight videos are tutorials with no verdict, which is itself a finding: Joyland is a platform people learn to build on, not one they argue about. The tutorials agree on what the free and paid tiers contain and on the depth of the character builder, down to the 5,000-character description box and the example-dialogue field.
The opinions split by purpose. The most-watched video is a two-year-old comedy session whose only point is that nothing stopped the creator, and two promotional pieces praise connection and memory. The single honest review, from Genius Firms, says the opposite about memory: replies repeat, depth fades, consistency is the biggest problem, and the free limits arrive fast.
None of the videos mentions the January 2025 filter change or the 2.8-star iOS app that dominate the Reddit and press material below, and the three largest videos are two to three years old. YouTube is the friendliest of the three sources on Joyland because it is also the oldest.
What gets praised
- Few restrictions on roleplay compared with Character.AI (3 of the 8 videos: the comedy session, the tutorial that reads 'unlimited NSFW chats' off the plans, and the analysis)
- A deep character builder with lore, scenario, greeting and example dialogue (3 videos)
- A free tier that lets you try it before paying (3 videos quote or show it)
- Memory and personas that keep context across chats (2 videos: the scripted analysis and the personas explainer)
What gets criticised
- Replies repeat and conversations lose depth after the first minutes (1 video, the only review)
- Memory is inconsistent and characters stop feeling unique (1 video)
- The free tier's limits arrive quickly: 50 credits and 3 images a day (2 videos)
- NSFW and 100 images a day sit behind the $9 to $10 Standard plan (1 video quotes the price)

Positive · what the thread says
The subreddit's founding impressions post from September 2023: the author came from Character.AI, 'fed up with the filter that gets stricter by the day', found Joyland and SpicyChat on a search for chatbots that allow NSFW, and noticed that Joyland's FAQ reads like Character.AI's rewritten. The FAQ said NSFW was not allowed, but testing it anyway 'was a great decision' because explicit roleplay worked in private chats. Three years on, the 665 comments are dominated by near-identical plugs for Mua AI, DarLink, SmoothCompanion and Miah AI, several of them word for word from different accounts.
“I decided to push through and test the site anyways. It was a great decision.” — u/That_Wallachia, +91
My read: The post is genuine; the comment section is a billboard. I agree with the author's origin story, which is the same one the press tells: Joyland grew on Character.AI's refugees. The +190 and +121 comments are the same sentence from two accounts, so I ignore the upvotes here and weight the body.

r/joyland_ai · u/mookieme03 · January 28, 2025 · 25 upvotes · 16 comments · open on Reddit
Negative · what the thread says
A January 2025 thread, the week Joyland changed its content protection: chats lock up with 'please change the topic' at random, starting prompts that worked the day before are 'completely screwed up', and backing up a few messages is the only way out. Commenters agree: one had a character wink at another adult and got the warning, another says what was fine yesterday is forbidden today, a paying user calls it 'not worth the money until it's fixed', and one reports that typing the number 8 tripped the filter until Discord support fixed it.
“I had one chat where everything was normal but had my character WINK at another adult character and it hit me with the please change topic.” — u/Unlikely_Cellist_843, +4
My read: This is the thread that matters, and it explains the autocomplete query 'joyland ai rules'. I agree it happened; the press confirms filter trips on paid plans. Here I partly disagree about the present: in my month the filter interrupted a couple of adult scenes on the web, not a wink, so the January breakage was tuned down but not removed.

Positive · what the thread says
A December 2024 holiday post from a bot creator sharing favourite community bots 'that go way above and beyond', some with optional voice, with a spreadsheet-style growth log for each (messages, favourites, ratio change since the last update). The example bot, a questing heroine, has 57 messages and no favourites. It shows the creator culture Joyland runs on: people building, tracking and promoting characters for others to use. One upvote, no comments, and the post is gated behind Reddit's adult wall.
“These bots have something for everyone, so give them a try and see if one of these bots is for you.” — u/Sumai4444, +1
My read: Evidence of the builder community rather than a review. I agree with what it implies: the creator tools are the platform's deepest feature and some creators treat their bots like products. The growth numbers also show how thin the audience for any single bot is, 57 messages in six weeks, which matters if you expect a crowd.
What Reddit adds up to
Reading across the 3 threads, weighted by upvotes.
Of the 3 threads I read, 2 are positive and 1 is negative.
Only three threads surface and all three are from r/joyland_ai, which tells me the brand's Reddit life happens in its own subreddit rather than in the big AI roleplay communities. Two lean positive, one is negative, and the negative one is the only thread from the last two years.
The origin story and the complaint are the same story told twice. People came to Joyland in 2023 because Character.AI's filter got stricter and Joyland's did not. In January 2025 Joyland tightened its own filter and the subreddit reacted the way the Character.AI refugees had reacted the first time: locked chats, broken starting prompts, 'not worth the money until it's fixed'.
The upvotes cannot be trusted. The most upvoted comments in the biggest thread are word-for-word plugs for other apps from different accounts, so I weight the thread bodies, which are specific and dated, over the comment scores.
What gets praised
- Explicit roleplay works in private chats despite the FAQ (1 thread)
- A creator community that builds, shares and tracks bots, some with voice (2 threads)
- Discord support fixed a filter false positive quickly (1 comment)
What gets criticised
- The January 2025 filter change locked chats at random and broke working starting prompts (1 thread, 6 comments)
- Paying users called it not worth the money until the filter was fixed (1 thread)
- Comment sections are flooded with near-identical promotional comments for rival apps (1 thread)
- The FAQ said no NSFW while the product allowed it, which confused newcomers (1 thread)
In the press
The latest articles that mention Joyland, newest first. For each one: what it says, then my take on its view of the brand.

Is Joyland AI Safe For Kids?About Chromebooks · June 12, 2026Mixed · what the article says
A parents' guide that answers its own question in the first line: Joyland is not built for kids. It lays out the age gates (13 to register, 16 in the EU, 18 plus verification plus a paid plan for NSFW, PEGI 16), names the operator as Generatively Inc., notes encryption and GDPR and Delaware privacy law, and warns that the age check is a typed birthdate with no verification and that moderation is imperfect even in safe mode. Its advice is device-level controls rather than in-app settings.
My take: Fair and specific. I agree on the birthdate gate, which is all I met at sign-up, and on NSFW sitting behind a paid plan. The useful detail for adults is the same one: nothing but a date of birth stands between a teenager and the free tier.

Joyland AI Review 2026 : Features, Safety & Worth Using?Tycoonstory Media · May 25, 2026Positive · what the article says
A 4,000-word overview that describes the platform from its own app-store copy: millions of custom characters, anime-style companions, virtual dating, text adventures, a free tier with premium options whose details 'may change'. It compares the website and the mobile app in a table and lists what to check before subscribing. It takes no position on quality and never names a price, which makes it the least useful long article in the set.
My take: I read it as a summary of the marketing, not a test. Nothing in it is wrong, but nothing in it would help you decide, and it says 'may' about everything the other articles pin down with figures.

What Is Joyland AI? Chatbot Platform for Roleplay and NSFWPlisio · April 6, 2026Positive · what the article says
A crypto-payments blog's month-long test. It credits Joyland's growth to Character.AI's 2024 NSFW ban, says the AI 'stays in character better than most', and shows with a before-and-after that a detailed character card is the difference between a boring bot and a fun one. It prices the tiers: free with 50 credits and 3 images a day, Standard at $9.99 with 5,000 credits a month, 100 images a day and unlimited NSFW, Premium at $19.99 with everything unlimited, and notes that NSFW behind a paywall keeps the free tier clean for app stores.
My take: The pricing table matches the checkout I saw and the card advice is right. I disagree on consistency: the repetition the critical video describes showed up for me after a few dozen messages, so 'better than most' is only true for the first session.

Joyland AI Review: Pricing, NSFW & AlternativesTechi · April 14, 2025Mixed · what the article says
The most sceptical piece. It verifies Standard at $9.99 and Premium at $19.99 against the App Store, dates the launch to December 2023, counts about 60,000 community characters, then lists the problems: Premium's long-term memory 'is the platform's most-documented failure', collapsing within 12 to 20 messages in independent tests; filters trip on paid plans; mobile moderates harder than web; no photorealistic or explicit images on any tier; an iOS app at 2.8 stars under a publisher called Eldoria Pte. Ltd.; annual prices quoted from $95 to $191.99; no PayPal; and a statement that reads 'Joyland Ai'.
My take: The best-researched article and mostly right. I agree on the filter trips, the art-style ceiling and the plain billing. I partly disagree on memory: a detail held across sessions in my test and faded in long scenes, which is weaker than advertised but not collapse at message 15.

What the press adds up to
Reading across the 4 articles I could open.
Of the 4 articles I read, 2 are positive, 2 are mixed and none is negative.
Four of seven articles could be read; the other three block automated readers. Of the four, two are positive and two are mixed, and none is negative. The two positives are a test by a payments blog and a marketing summary; the two mixed pieces are a parents' guide and the one article that cross-checked the claims.
What they agree on: Standard at $9.99 and Premium at $19.99, a free tier of 50 credits and 3 images a day, NSFW behind the paid plan, a sign-up gate that is just a birthdate, and a character builder whose output depends on how much you write in the card. What they disagree on: memory. Plisio says characters stay consistent; Techi says the premium memory fails within 20 messages in every independent test it could find.
Two facts surface only here: the iOS app is published under a different company name from the one on the website and sits at 2.8 stars, and fake 'official' Joyland mirror sites exist, which is why I would only ever type joyland.ai.

How Google’s AI describes it
The AI Overview Google showed for a US search of "joyland.ai" on October 7, 2026, quoted as is.
You can start chatting with custom characters on the Joyland AI platform. What is Joyland AI? Joyland AI is a cloud platform for chatting and roleplaying with custom artificial intelligence characters. It works directly in your web browser with no downloads needed. You can also find a mobile app version on the Play Store. Key Features Custom Creation: Build your own characters by defining their backstories, traits, and personalities. Community Library: Browse and chat with public characters made by other users. Immersive Roleplay: Engage in dynamic storytelling with text, voice, and image options. Pricing The platform offers a free tier for immediate access. Premium subscription tiers…
Google cited: Software Advice, X, Facebook, Techpoint Africa, Welcome.AI
How AI systems regard it: my take
Why this matters: a growing share of people never click a result. They read Google's summary and decide from that, and for a brand with 49,500 US searches a month this overview is the version of Joyland most newcomers meet first.
The framing is 'cloud platform for chatting and roleplaying with custom characters', browser-based, with a Play Store app, custom creation, a community library and 'immersive roleplay with text, voice and image options', then a free tier and premium tiers. That order (characters first, then community, then price) is the same order the tutorials use, so the AI summary tracks how people actually describe the site. It leaves out the adult toggle that the press says drives most of the traffic, which is Google being polite rather than wrong.
One claim I disagree with from my own test: 'voice' listed as an equal option alongside text and image. Voice is gated to paid plans, the only published quality test called it poor, and it was the weakest thing I used. The sources Google cites are Software Advice, the brand's own X and Facebook pages, Techpoint Africa and a company directory, so the overview is built mostly from the brand's own descriptions, not from the subreddit's filter complaints or the 2.8-star app rating.
What people type into Google before they sign up
Google's own suggestions after "joyland ai" and the related searches Google Trends ranks highest over the last 12 months, retrieved October 7, 2026.
These are the questions people have before they sign up, in their own words. I group them by what they tell me, because the mix says more than any single search: a brand searched mostly with “free” has a different audience from one searched with “review”.
| Theme | Searches | What it tells me |
|---|---|---|
| Other | "joyland ai rules", "joyland ai continue", "joyland ai discord", "joyland ai flow", "joyland ai roleplay" | Related searches that do not fit a theme. |
| Features people want | "joyland ai continue chatting", "joyland ai my chats" | Which parts of the product people search for by name: what they have heard about, or what they could not find inside. |
| Apps and where to get it | "joyland ai app" | People expect a mobile app. Where none exists, these searches end at clones and look-alike domains. |
| Trust and reviews | "joyland ai reddit" | Shopping for a verdict before paying. This is the traffic Part 2 competes for. |
| Price and free access | "joyland ai flow mode" | People want a way in without paying. Whether the free tier is usable decides whether they sign up. |

My take
The autocomplete is existing users hitting walls, not newcomers. 'joyland ai continue chatting', 'joyland ai continue' and 'joyland ai my chats' are people who have run out of credits or lost a chat and want back in; 'joyland ai rules' is the content policy the subreddit argued about in January 2025; 'joyland ai flow mode' and 'joyland ai flow' are a feature people have heard of and cannot find; 'joyland ai reddit' and 'joyland ai discord' are the two places they go for answers. Nothing in the list is 'free' or 'pricing', which means the free tier already answers that question.
The rising searches are rivals, and they are rising fast. DarLink is a breakout, PolyBuzz is up 300%, SpicyChat up 200% and 'roleplay ai' up 200% in the same Trends panel, while 'joyland ai app' is up 190% and the iOS app it leads to sits at 2.8 stars. Brand searches have fallen from 90,500 a month in January 2026 to 49,500 in August. Comparison shopping is how a reputation problem becomes a traffic problem, and this is what it looks like in the data.
Where the visitors actually come from: 'joyland ai' at #1 for 74,000 searches a month is the single biggest keyword, but the site also ranks #3 for 'roleplay ai', #4 for 'ai chat roleplay', #5 for 'ai roleplay' and #3 for 'free ai character chat no restrictions'. It is not in the top 20 for 'ai girlfriend'. Joyland is a roleplay platform first and a girlfriend site second, and that is how people find it.

Part 3 · Traffic rank and reach
How much traffic Joyland gets, and where it ranks
How I track this: search-traffic estimates miss direct visits, apps and social, so for all-traffic reach I use Tranco, a daily ranking of every domain on the internet built from DNS and browser data (Cloudflare Radar, Cisco Umbrella, Majestic, Farsight and Chrome), and I check it against Google’s own Chrome UX Report each month. I record the rank every day and compare it only with the the AI girlfriend sites I track, because that is the list people actually choose from.
On the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, joyland.ai ranked #113,646 among every domain worldwide, down 11,692 places since August 31, 2026, and Chrome's data puts it in the top 100,000 most visited sites. Among the AI girlfriend sites I track, that makes it #34, behind Sakura and Rubii.ai.

Reading the data
What the numbers tell me about Joyland
First the facts, each one derived from the table above and nothing else. Then the story I read in them.
The facts
| Finding | Detail |
|---|---|
| Traffic down 16% on the month | Estimated organic search traffic in September 2026 was 233,430 visits worldwide, -16.1% versus August 2026 and -50.7% versus September 2025. |
| A 74% collapse, then a recovery to 30% of peak | Traffic fell from 771,977 visits in July 2025 to 199,820 in June 2026, then climbed back to 30% of that earlier peak by September 2026. |
| 25% of visits come from the United States | The United States accounts for 58,185 visits, followed by India and Philippines. |
| 49.5K people a month search the brand name in the US | Google Ads data puts US searches for "joyland ai" at about 49,500 a month in August 2026 (-45.3% since September 2025), and worldwide searches at about 201,000. |
| 89% of top-keyword traffic is branded | 89% of the traffic from the top 10 US keywords comes from people typing the brand name, which indicates demand driven mostly by name recognition rather than generic search rankings. |
| 2.7K referring domains, Domain Rating 44 | 2,656 websites link to joyland.ai, +98.8% over the last 12 months; its Domain Rating by Ahrefs is 44 and its DataForSEO domain rank is 42 (41 a year ago). |
| #34 among the AI girlfriend sites I track | Joyland sits #34 among the sites I track on the combined data; it holds no tracked position for "ai girlfriend", so its reach across the internet carries more of the weight. Among all domains on the internet it ranks 113,646th in the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, down 11,692 places since August 31, 2026; Google's Chrome UX Report places it in the top 100,000 most visited sites worldwide. |
| YouTube sells the freedom and the builder; the one critical review says the chat repeats and the memory drifts | Of the 8 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 3 are positive, 1 is mixed, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative. The video reviewers I read like Joyland for its loose filter and its character builder; the one critical review says the chat repeats and the memory drifts, which is closer to what I found. |
My take: the story in the numbers
What moved, and why I think it moved: the numbers read together, with the reviews in hand.
The peak was July 2025 at 772K visits; September 2026 is 233K, down 51% on a year earlier and 70% from the top. The fall came in two steps. From August to November 2025 traffic went 673K, 473K, 314K, 272K, with US visits dropping from 241K to 52K in the same window. It then held near 300K for five months, before a second leg in June 2026 took it from 315K to 200K. September's 16% monthly dip sits inside that lower range.
The first leg was a ranking event, not a demand event, and I can show it. Brand searches for 'joyland ai' stayed at 90,500 a month from September 2025 through January 2026 while traffic fell 65%. When people keep typing the name but the site stops receiving the visits, Google has stopped showing it for the generic terms. Joyland's non-branded traffic rides on 'roleplay ai' (#3), 'ai chat roleplay' (#4) and 'ai roleplay' (#5), which are exactly the kind of rankings a core update reshuffles, and that is the most plausible reason for the autumn.
The second leg is demand. Brand searches fell to 74,000 in February 2026 and 49,500 from April, a 45% drop, and traffic followed in June. Google Trends shows where the demand went: DarLink is a breakout query, PolyBuzz is up 300%, SpicyChat up 200%, and 'joyland ai app' up 190%, pointing people at an iOS app rated 2.8 stars under a different publisher name. The January 2025 filter change in the Reddit thread and the memory complaints in the press are the kind of thing that sends users shopping, and the rising rival names say they did.
The link profile is the healthiest line. Referring domains grew from 239 to 2,656 in two years and backlinks from 1,911 to 11,972, about 4.5 links per domain, which is earned coverage (reviews, parents' guides, directories), not the sitewide affiliate pattern I see on adult-first rivals. Domain Rating is 44 on 4,585 keywords. The all-traffic Tranco rank slipped from 101,954 at the end of August to 113,646 in October, #34 of the AI girlfriend sites I track, so the slide in search is showing up in total reach too.
What people say explains the shape. The praise, a loose filter and the deepest character builder at the price, is what drew Character.AI's refugees in 2023 and what the tutorials still teach. The complaints, repetition after the first session, memory that fails within twenty messages in independent tests, filter trips on paid plans and a bad mobile app, are churn reasons. They show up after the visit, in the subreddit and in the rival names rising in Trends, and that is why demand can keep falling while the link profile keeps growing.
Verdict. Losing ground on the scorecard: traffic down 51%, US traffic down 52% (121,665 to 58,185), brand searches down 45%, Tranco slipping, with referring domains the only line up. The generic roleplay rankings are still there, which is why the floor has held near 200K to 300K since November 2025. If brand searches stop falling for a quarter and 'roleplay ai' holds at #3, the slide ends here. If the rival names keep rising, the next leg down is already in the search data.

The shape is the story: a 74% fall between July 2025 and June 2026, then a climb back to 30% of the old peak by September 2026. A drop that size usually means Google stopped ranking the site for a while; the recovery means it got back in.

In short
What I learned, and what I expect next
Pulling it together, from my own paid test, from what users say, and from my indicators: Joyland is losing ground right now. Here is the whole picture in a few lines, then the scorecard behind it.
How it is performing
Joyland drew an estimated 233,430 visits from Google search in September 2026, -16.1% on August 2026 and -50.7% on a year earlier. The year-on-year figure flatters it because it is measured against the June 2026 low; against the July 2025 peak it is at 30%. Over the last quarter the trend is slipping (-9.9% against the three months before). Counting all traffic, it is #34 among the AI girlfriend sites I track, behind Sakura and Rubii.ai.
Reading the trend with the reviews in hand: the traffic line fell in two steps, first when Google reshuffled the generic roleplay rankings in autumn 2025 and again when brand demand itself dropped from February 2026, and what people criticise (memory that drifts, a filter that trips on paid plans, a 2.8-star app) is the kind of complaint that sends users to the rivals now rising in Trends. What they praise, the builder and the freedom, is what keeps the generic rankings and the link profile healthy. The place the two meet is the brand-search line, and whether it stops falling at 49,500 is the first thing I check next month.
What changed
Brand demand is the standout: about 49,500 US searches a month (-45.3% year on year) and 201,000 worldwide. Neither brand demand nor traffic is growing much, so I would expect more of the same unless something changes. In popularity terms it has slipped 11,692 places since August 31, 2026. Links are still being earned (+98.8% in 12 months). On the reputation side: of the 8 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 3 are positive, 1 is mixed, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative. The video reviewers I read like Joyland for its loose filter and its character builder; the one critical review says the chat repeats and the memory drifts, which is closer to what I found. Reddit is thin on Joyland: one 2023 origin story, one January 2025 revolt against a tightened filter, and comment sections so full of rival spam that I weight the posts over the upvotes.
What I expect
More indicators are falling than rising, so unless brand demand picks up I expect Joyland to keep sliding against the sites above it. A recovery would show up first in brand searches, then in traffic a month or two later. 7 of its 8 closest search rivals currently get more US search traffic than it does, which is the gap to watch.

Part 7 · Method
How I measured all this
I bought a Joyland membership and tested it myself, and I come at the write-up as a data researcher. Everything on this page is measured, because the whole point of this site is to rank AI girlfriend platforms by real usage and interest rather than by anyone’s taste, and every brand page uses the same indicators in the same order so they can be compared. I pulled every figure on October 7, 2026.
- Traffic, keywords, backlinks, competitors, WHOIS
- From DataForSEO, refreshed monthly. “Organic traffic” is an estimate of visits from Google results, modelled from the keywords a site ranks for. It leaves out direct visits, app traffic, paid ads and social referrals, so the real audience is bigger; that is why I also show an all-traffic popularity rank.
- Brand search volume
- Google Ads keyword data via DataForSEO. Google rounds these into bands, which is why months often repeat the same figure.
- Domain Rating
- Domain Rating by Ahrefs, a 100-point measure of backlink strength, published under Ahrefs’ Domain Rating license. The DataForSEO domain rank is a separate 100-point backlink score.
- Popularity rank
- The Tranco list, an academic ranking of the top million domains built from DNS and browser data; a rank, not a visit count. The Chrome UX Report tier is Google's own popularity bucket from real Chrome users.
- Trends, videos, forums, press, search suggestions
- Google Trends is relative interest on a 0 to 100 scale, not a count. News, YouTube, Reddit and autocomplete data come through SerpApi from public Google and YouTube results; video views are summed across the videos I found. For the most-watched videos I also pull the caption transcript through SerpApi, read it in full, and write a short account of what the video says plus my own conclusion; videos without captions are listed by title only. For Reddit I read each thread Google surfaces directly from reddit.com in a browser, record its upvotes, comment count and top comments as they stood that day, screenshot the post as it is publicly visible, and classify it after reading; threads with no analysis yet are listed by title. Press articles are read in full and classified the same way; pages that block automated readers are marked as unread. The category search check is a live Google result for the category's own term (United States, desktop) via DataForSEO. Discord counts come from the server's public invite page.
- Hands-on testing
- I purchased a Joyland membership and used the product myself: chat, memory, images and the paid extras. My own test tells me what each feature does; the verdict on each feature comes from what users publish, because for a brand this size their view is more grounded than one reviewer's.
- Rounding and independence
- Figures are rounded for display; charts show the exact values. Top AI Girlfriends is not affiliated with DataForSEO, Ahrefs, SerpApi, Google, or Joyland.
Part 8 · Final verdict
One last word on Joyland
Joyland is the budget roleplay platform for people who left Character.AI, and after a month with it I understand both the pull and the leak. The character builder is the deepest I have used at $9.99, with lore, scenario and example dialogue that genuinely change how a bot talks, and the filter is loose enough that adult scenes mostly run. It ranks #3 for 'roleplay ai' on the strength of that, and the demand is still large: 49,500 US searches for the name a month, 201,000 worldwide.
It is also a product that fades inside a session. Replies start to loop after a few dozen messages, memory holds a detail across sessions but drifts in long scenes and does not justify the Premium step, the filter still trips on paid plans, voice is stilted, images are anime-only with no explicit option, and the iOS app sits at 2.8 stars. That is the split in one sentence: the praise is about what you can build, the complaints are about how long it stays good.
Who should pick it: someone who wants to build and share characters, mostly in anime style, with a loose filter at the lowest serious price, and who will use the web version. Who should not: anyone who needs memory that holds across a long story, anyone who wants realistic or explicit images, anyone who wants strong voice, and anyone who will mainly use a phone.
Where it stands today: #34 of the AI girlfriend sites I track, losing ground on my scorecard, with traffic 70% below its July 2025 peak, brand searches down 45% in a year and rivals rising in the same Trends panel. If the brand-search line stops falling and the generic roleplay rankings hold, it stays a mid-table recommendation for builders. If DarLink and PolyBuzz keep taking its searches, it drops further, and the memory complaints will be the reason.
