GirlfriendGPT

An AI girlfriend site: what it offers, what people say, and the numbers.

I bought a GirlfriendGPT membership and tested it myself. Then I built a data-tracked profile of gptgirlfriend.online, refreshed monthly. Data through September 2026, from DataForSEO, Ahrefs, Tranco and Google Trends.

I bought a GirlfriendGPT membership and tested it myself, feature by feature. I’m an AI girlfriend enthusiast and a data researcher, and both shape every page on this site: my own test tells me what the product does, but I don’t grade GirlfriendGPT on my feel alone.

I weigh what its users publish, and I track it the way an analyst tracks a market, with a fixed set of indicators that show how big a platform is, whether it is growing or fading, and how it compares with every other AI girlfriend site I follow.

This page answers three questions in order: what you get, what people are saying, and what the numbers show. Part 1 comes from my own paid test and GirlfriendGPT’s feature list and pricing, Part 2 from the videos, Reddit threads and press I read in full, and Parts 3 and 4 from traffic and search data. That is also how I rank the best AI girlfriend sites: tested first-hand, then judged by what users say and by the numbers.

Part 1 · What it offers

What GirlfriendGPT offers

GirlfriendGPT (gptgirlfriend.online) is an adult AI girlfriend platform: you create or pick a companion and talk to it, with voice, AI-generated images on top of text chat. I bought a membership and tested it myself; this is what it offers, and Part 2 is what users say about each part of it.

Features
GPT-powered AI conversation, Voice calls, iOS and Android mobile apps, NSFW chat and image generation, Cryptocurrency payments
Free tier
The free tier gives a handful of messages, five to eight by the most recent review I read, plus a short Elite trial and daily login coins, so it is enough to browse characters rather than test the chat.
Plans
$12.00/mo
Extras
Historically from $12.00/month with a mobile app and crypto accepted, as of my original testing. The girlfriendgpt.ai domain now redirects to a different, unrelated AI companion competitor, so confirm which product and pricing you're actually signing up for before relying on this figure.
Operator
Not disclosed on the site or in the press I read; the project was founded by developer Enias Cailliau, who open-sourced the original in May 2023, Not disclosed on the site or in the press I read, since 2023 (open-source project in May, the paid site later that year)
Best for
Users wanting the widest feature set — voice, mobile, image generation, and crypto — at a mid-range price
Not for
Users needing the deepest long-term memory or the highest image generation quality

Features and prices from the platform’s own pages; operator from press coverage (Cybernews, GIGAZINE, Greenbot, AI Girlfriend Expert on YouTube, Madville Creations on YouTube). Official site and social accounts are listed at the end of the page.

Part 2 · What people say

What people say about GirlfriendGPT

I bought a membership and tested GirlfriendGPT myself, but I don’t take my own word for it. Many users have a more grounded view of a platform this popular than one reviewer can, and I would rather not give it too much or too little credit from my own intent, so I treat what users publish and ask as the main signal for how the brand, and each of its features, is regarded. On October 7, 2026 I found 10 YouTube videos with 113,226 views between them, 8 Reddit threads that Google surfaces, and 0 news articles in the last year. I did not stop at the titles: I read 8 video transcripts (8,327 words), 8 threads with their top comments and 3 articles in full, and classified each one as positive, mixed, neutral or negative.

Favourability at a glance

Each item was classified after I read it, not from its title. A walkthrough or a passing mention counts as neutral.

The gap between YouTube videos and Press articles on one side and Reddit on the other is the main sentiment finding on this page, and the sections below explain it.

Each feature, and what people think of it

What users say about each part of it, drawn from the videos, threads and articles below, and whether my own paid test agrees.

FeatureVerdictWhat people say
Chat and roleplayPositiveThe thing every regular praises: 'relevant, consistent, well detailed' replies, 'the most intelligent LLM I have used' (3 threads), and the Elite engine called one of the best safe-for-work roleplay engines around (1 video). The complaints are 'the loop', where a character repeats or interrogates (2 videos), and Elite talking for the user (1 video). My test: Agree. The writing on Deluxe and Elite was a match for anything in this category; the loop appeared on long sessions and the out-of-character command cleared it.
MemoryMixedDeluxe is advertised with 8K memory; the Elite test found recall of a detail from 70 messages earlier without memory cards (1 video). The tips video's workarounds, restart with a pasted summary, 'the next day begins', exist because memory runs out, and the one side-by-side praising its memory is from Reddit regulars rather than a comparison. My test: Partly disagree. Elite held a detail across sessions for me; on Deluxe, where most subscribers sit, details went within an evening and the summary restart was a weekly ritual.
Image generationNegativePraised for a new anime generator and the 'detailed' prompt trick (1 video), and otherwise the main complaint: images that do not hold a face across poses and get hands and clothing wrong (2 threads), 'serviceable' at best, with creators making their portraits on an external generator (1 video) and the 2023 selfies already 'android-like' (1 article). My test: Agree. Images cost 6 coins each and rarely matched the character twice; it is the weakest part of the product next to Candy's.
Voice and phone callsPositiveVoices called 'phenomenal' by a creator channel and 'pretty decent' on Reddit, plus a phone-call feature where the character rings you and you answer by microphone (3 videos, 1 thread). The cost is the catch: 2 coins per 100 characters, so narrating one long reply is 18 coins of a 1,200-coin Deluxe month. My test: Partly disagree. 'Phenomenal' is strong: the voices are the best I have heard at this price and the phone call is the feature that justifies Deluxe, but the meter made me ration them to quoted speech only.
Characters and the creator communityPositiveMore than 7,500 characters, creator payouts, a personality field that rewards detail, and users who publish templates and 50-bot collections (1 article, 4 videos, 4 threads). You can browse without signing up. The caveat from a creator tutorial: narrow goals make bots repeat themselves. My test: Agree. The user-made characters are the product; the templates from the tutorial channels produced better bots than my own first attempts.
Free tierNegativeFive to eight messages, by the Elite reviewer's count, plus a 20-message Elite trial advertised on the site and daily login coins that fail to load often enough for a thread about it (1 video, 1 thread). Every source treats the product as paid.My test: Agree. The free messages were gone before I had finished a greeting; it is enough to read the characters, not to test the chat.
Price, messages and coinsMixedPremium $15 for 5,000 messages with no voice or images, Deluxe $35 for 20,000 messages, voice, images and 1,200 coins, Elite $50 for unlimited messages and 2,000 coins, by the most recent review I read (1 video); Reddit calls $15 'well worth it' (1 thread). Voice and images draw on the coin allowance, and the Elite reviewer calls $50 the most expensive NSFW chatbot on the market. My test: Partly disagree. The ladder is right, but 'most expensive' is not: CrushOn's Deluxe is $49.90, so Elite is tied. Deluxe is the tier the product is designed around; Premium without voice misses the point.
Moderation and character approvalMixedCreators report adult characters flagged as underage over a backstory phrase and niche characters rejected unless tagged correctly (2 videos); NSFW itself is open, and toggling it off is a known way to refresh a flat conversation (1 video). Greenbot's 'no monitoring' claim sits awkwardly beside that.My test: Agree. One of my character sheets was flagged on a rewordable phrase and approved within a minute of the edit; I would rather that than the alternative.
Privacy, billing and supportMixedCrypto accepted, a legacy of losing Stripe in 2023 (1 article), encrypted payments and easy cancellation (1 article, 1 thread). Against that, account management lives on Discord tickets (2 threads), and the one thread about a bank statement shows the charge was recognisable to a spouse. My test: Partly disagree. Reddit's 'quick and efficient' support has no in-app channel, and I found the Discord route only by looking. Cancellation was one click; the statement descriptor was not discreet.
Legitimacy and the look-alike domainsMixedA real product with a known founder, three years of history and a 22,000-member Discord. The hazard is the name: the site lives at gptgirlfriend.online, while girlfriendgpt.com and girlfriendgpt.ai are other people's sites, both of which appear in the autocomplete, and 'apk' searches lead to files the brand does not publish. My test: Agree. Type the brand name into a browser bar and you may land on a rival; the .online address is the one I paid, and the one the Reddit creators link to.

How I read this

Sentiment is the hardest thing to measure honestly. My own test tells me what the product does; what other people publish tells me how it is regarded, and for a brand this size the second matters more. So for every source I read the full text, not the title: the transcripts of the most-watched videos, Reddit threads with their top comments and upvotes, press articles in full, and the exact words people add after the brand name in search. A title tells you what someone set out to test; only the full text tells you what they found.

The most-watched videos, and what they actually say

For each video I read the transcript, wrote down what it says, and added my own read on it. Most viewed first.

  • GirlfriendGPT - AI girlfriend with LangChainGirlfriendGPT · 3y ago · 1:15 · 74.1K views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

The brand's most-watched video is 75 seconds of the original 2023 open-source project running in Telegram: a character called Lizzy says she is at the park, asks what you are working on and sends a generated selfie of where she is. The transcript is nothing but the bot's own messages. This is the GitHub project by Enias Cailliau that the site grew out of, before there was a website, a subscription or a character library, and the 74,000 views date from the week it went viral in May 2023, when the press wrote it up as a developer cloning his girlfriend.

My read: A relic, and a useful one. It explains the 'girlfriendgpt github' autocomplete query and why two of the three press articles are from 2023. Nothing in it describes the product I tested, which is a community character site, so there is nothing to agree or disagree with beyond the selfie feature, which still exists and still looks like this.

  • 1000 People Are Now Using GirlfriendGPT ! [AI Girlfriend]AI Andy · 3y ago · 10:59 · 12.3K views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

An eleven-minute AI news roundup from 2023 in which GirlfriendGPT is the opening item for about a minute: the project 'crossed over 1,000 stars on GitHub', ships two example girlfriends (Lizzy, 28, a mother; Luna, 25, a traveller), uses ElevenLabs for custom voices, runs in Telegram and sends selfies on request. The rest of the video is Pixar avatars, Figma plugins, nuclear fusion and the presenter's Patreon. It is a snapshot of the brand as a developer curiosity, not a review of anything a subscriber would use.

My read: Second most-watched, and again not about the product. Two of the top three videos are from the open-source era, which tells me the name has been searched for three years and the site inherited an audience it did not build. I agree with the one fact: the Telegram project is where the voice-and-selfie idea came from.

  • 8 GirlfriendGPT Tips & Tricks You NEED To KnowAI Girlfriend Expert · 2y ago · 7:16 · 9.0K views

Positive · what the video says

Eleven tips from a week of research: toggle NSFW off to refresh a dying conversation, type 'the next day begins' to override a reply that tries to end the story, escape 'the loop' of a character that keeps asking questions by editing the message or an out-of-character command, and restart with a pasted summary when memory is gone. It praises the personality field and a new anime image generator. It also surfaces two limits: the Deluxe plan caps at 20,000 messages a month, with extra only via a Discord support ticket, and niche characters get flagged unless tagged correctly.

My read: The most useful video here, and most of it is workarounds. I agree with every trick; the OOC command and the summary restart were the two I used most. The number of tips needed to keep a conversation alive is itself a finding: memory and the loop are the product's weak points, and the community has routed around them.

  • #2 GirlfriendGPT - Personality - Character CreationMadville Creations · 2y ago · 5:06 · 5.2K views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

Part two of a creator's tutorial series, building a pizza-delivery character from a personality template: basics, physicals ('say tall, not six foot four'), personality, background, relationships, goals, psychology, quirks and secrets, about 1,280 tokens in all. Two things of note for buyers. Narrow character goals cause bots to repeat the same phrase from early on because 'the AI thinks the roleplay is over', and the site's moderation flagged the adult character as underage over the phrase 'at age 16' in a backstory, fixed by rewording. The presenter treats both as routine.

My read: Craft advice that doubles as a diagnosis. I agree that repetition on this site is often the creator's fault, which matches a Reddit comment saying the same. The underage false positive is the moderation doing its job clumsily; I would rather it over-flag than under-flag, and the fix took the presenter a minute.

  • How to use GirlfriendGPT - This Janitor AI competitor even has voice messagesGirlfriendGPT · 3y ago · 1:28 · 4.8K views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

A 90-second clip from the brand's own channel, titled as a Janitor AI competitor 'that even has voice messages'. The transcript is a single roleplay reply in which a housekeeper character, Leonor, welcomes the user to lunch while her husband is out, with the purple prose the genre runs on ('succulent and tantalizing appetizers'). It is a sample of the house writing style and the voice feature, not a walkthrough, and it dates from 2023, before the current character library and the Elite engine existed.

My read: Marketing, but an honest sample. I agree the writing style shown is what you get: long, descriptive, stage-direction heavy, and quick to turn suggestive. The voice is the point of the title, and three years on it is still the feature the site does best relative to its price.

  • Is GirlfriendGPT Elite Worth it? I Paid for it...AI Girlfriend Expert · 1y ago · 9:58 · 2.5K views

Mixed · what the video says

The only paid comparison in the set: already on Deluxe, the reviewer buys the $50-a-month Elite plan and uses both for a day. The ladder: free with five to eight messages, Premium $15 for 5,000 messages and no voice or images, Deluxe $35 for images, voice, 8K memory and 20,000 messages, Elite unlimited with 2,000 coins and a new engine, with no downgrade afterwards. Elite was slower to go explicit, wrote 30% longer replies, recalled something from 70 messages earlier, followed character sheets strictly and was 'one of the best safe-for-work chat experiences' he had used, but talked for the user. Verdict: for creators and daily users, not casual ones.

My read: A fair test with a fair answer. I agree on the split: Elite is a creator's tier. I partly disagree with 'the most expensive NSFW chatbot on the market', since CrushOn's top plan is $49.90, so it is tied rather than alone. His 70-message recall matches my Elite test; on Deluxe, details went within an evening.

  • #1 GirlfriendGPT - Ideas, Inspiration, Description - Character CreationMadville Creations · 2y ago · 6:01 · 2.4K views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

Part one of the same creator series, on ideas. The character is inspired by the site's new voices, which the presenter calls 'phenomenal' while warning that having a bot speak 'does come from your coin allowance'. The method: write the description, personality, scenario and first message offline for backup, test, and make the portrait last so the picture fits the bot rather than the other way round; the site requires a photo, so a placeholder is used until release. Nothing is reviewed, but it shows a creator community organised enough to publish templates and a numbered series.

My read: Evidence of the creator culture the site runs on. I agree with the method and with the voice warning, which the same channel quantifies later. What I take from it is that the characters I enjoyed most were built this carefully by users, which is the site's real asset and not something it pays for.

  • #9 GirlfriendGPT - Voice Features - Character CreationMadville Creations · 1y ago · 5:56 · 1.8K views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

The most specific account of what voice costs. Audio is 2 coins per 100 characters and an image 6 coins; a Deluxe subscriber gets 1,200 coins a month, so narrating one 840-character reply costs 18 coins and about 66 such replies empty the allowance. The budget alternative is a setting that plays only the character's quoted speech, 2 coins for the same message. It also shows the 'alpha' models that change daily (downvote bad ones), and a phone-call feature where the character rings you, you speak into a microphone and the reply is read aloud. 'You can burn through coins quickly' is the refrain.

My read: The coin maths nobody else does, and I agree with it. Full narration drained my Deluxe allowance in a fortnight in my test; the quotes-only setting is the way to use voice here. The phone call is the feature that justifies the tier, and it worked better than the text-to-speech on rivals costing more.

What the videos add up to

Reading across the 8 transcripts, this is the picture that emerges.

Of the 8 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 1 is positive, 1 is mixed, 6 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative.

Three of the eight videos, including the two most watched, are about the open-source Telegram project from 2023, not the site. Of the five that cover the product, one is a paid Elite-versus-Deluxe comparison (mixed), one is a tips list (positive), and three are creator tutorials with no verdict. There is no plain review of the site as a subscriber meets it.

What the product videos agree on: the writing is strong, especially on the Elite engine, which recalled a detail from 70 messages earlier and was called one of the best safe-for-work roleplay engines around; the voices are 'phenomenal' and the phone-call feature is unusual; and the creator tools, personality templates and tags reward effort. What they warn about: message caps (5,000 on Premium, 20,000 on Deluxe), a coin meter that voice drains at 2 coins per 100 characters, a free tier of a handful of messages, 'the loop' where characters repeat or interrogate, over-eager moderation that flagged an adult character as underage, and a $50 top tier.

The pattern is a site whose best content is user-made. Two channels publish numbered tutorial series for building characters on it, and the tips video's eleven workarounds are community knowledge. That is a strength for roleplayers and a warning for anyone who wants a companion that simply works out of the box.

What gets praised

  • Writing quality, with the Elite engine called one of the best safe-for-work roleplay engines and recalling details 70 messages back (1 of the 8 videos)
  • Voices, called phenomenal, plus a phone-call feature with speech-to-text (3 videos)
  • Creator tools: the personality field, templates, tags and image prompts (4 videos)
  • A new anime image generator and the 'detailed' prompt trick (1 video)

What gets criticised

  • Voice and images draw on a coin allowance that drains fast (2 videos)
  • Message caps of 5,000 on Premium and 20,000 on Deluxe, with a free tier of five to eight messages (2 videos)
  • 'The loop': characters that repeat a phrase or keep asking questions (2 videos)
  • Moderation that flags adult characters as underage or blocks niche characters without the right tags (2 videos)
  • A $50 Elite tier that cannot be downgraded and talks for the user (1 video)

    r/Giantess · u/goddessgtsthegreat · February 21, 2025 · 48 upvotes · 3 comments · open on Reddit

Positive · what the thread says

A creator in a fetish subreddit shares a free-to-use collection of about 50 chatbots built on the site over six months, and the post draws 48 upvotes, the most of any thread here. It is the creator economy in miniature: a niche community, a prolific builder, a public creator page on gptgirlfriend.online, and a brief exchange about whether rivals like PolyBuzz also charge subscriptions. There is no review of the platform; the endorsement is that someone chose it for six months of work.

“Really? Doesn't PolyBuzz also have paid subscriptions?” — u/goddessgtsthegreat, +1

My read: The strongest upvote count in the set belongs to a creator, not a reviewer, which is the brand in one line. I agree the character tools reward this kind of effort; the niche collections are where the site's library is deepest. It also shows why Reddit's recommendation tallies miss it: its communities are elsewhere.

  • r/gptgirlfriend · u/PotatoesMashymashMy overall experience so far (& some improvements I'd very, very much like to see)There is a tl;dr at the bottom. First off, I just want to say that GPTGirlfriend is truly remarkable, I've used other AI chatbots apps before and this website is definitely a number 2 on my top 3 list. The responses are relevant, consistent, well detailed and now and then I'm genuinely surprised wondering if I'm talking to a bot or an actual person. And for 15 dollars a month for the premium subscription I think it's well worth it. Image generation is fun to use and I know I've spent some time making some images lol. The website layout and messaging interface is well organized and simplistic which I like. Anybody can understand why this is a number 2 for me, I haven't used an AI chatbot app/website this smart nor bang for your buck. But...there is a reason as to why this website isn't my number 1. Two major issues that I've frequently encountered are bot messages disappearing within the 34 upvotes · 23 comments · Reddit shows this post only to logged-in adults, so the text is reproduced instead of a screenshot

Mixed · what the thread says

A January 2024 write-up (34 upvotes) from a user who ranks the site second of everything they have tried: responses 'relevant, consistent, well detailed' to the point of wondering if a person is typing, $15 a month 'well worth it', fun image generation, a clean interface. The two problems that keep it off the top spot are bot messages disappearing mid-chat and trouble managing the subscription. Replies say the vanishing messages are rare and fixed by refreshing, that edited replies may be the ones that vanish, and that a Discord ticket resolves account issues quickly.

“The responses are relevant, consistent, well detailed and now and then I'm genuinely surprised wondering if I'm talking to a bot or an actual person.” — u/PotatoesMashymash, +34

My read: The most complete user review in the set, and the praise matches mine. I agree on the writing and the value of the $15 tier. The disappearing-message bug did not hit me in 2026, so I take it as fixed. The subscription note is the one to keep: account management lives on Discord, not in the app.

Mixed · what the thread says

A wish for the character's portrait to stay visible during chat turns into a thread about image consistency: one user asks why subsequent images with different poses do not use 'the exact same image', another wishes creators would publish the prompts behind their portraits, and a third wants a split window for images beside the chat. One reply calls it 'by far the best of all the paid content platforms I've used' with an 'awesome' community, and another points to a helper character that writes W++ definitions for you.

“on phones it kinda sucks a bit but this platform is by far the best of all the paid content platforms I've used. I wish I'd found it sooner. The community is awesome.” — u/[deleted], +2

My read: The image complaint is the right one. I agree that the generator does not hold a face across poses; it is the weakest part of the product next to Candy's. Here I disagree with 'by far the best paid platform': the writing is a match for anyone, but the images and the memory are not.

    r/gptgirlfriend · u/dsppsd1 · January 7, 2025 · 6 upvotes · 11 comments · open on Reddit

Positive · what the thread says

A newcomer asks whether the AI is repetitive, whether cancelling is easy and whether the NSFW is good. Five replies say yes to the site: 'the best one' of several tried, repetition is 'more the person who created it than the model', 'the most intelligent LLM I have used', a tarot-card roleplay bot that made text adventure fun, voices 'pretty decent' for the coins, images 'serviceable' but bad at hands and clothing, and account handling 'straightforward'. One dissenter calls it a scam, says the comments are bots and the photos 'look nothing like the characters'.

“GGPT has the most intelligent LLM I have used. You can do way more than just get your rocks off.” — u/Altruistic-Weird4188, +2

My read: Five regulars and one sceptic, and the regulars describe my month. I agree on the writing, the easy cancellation and the hands. I disagree with the scam call: I paid, used it and cancelled from the account page with nothing odd on the card, and the bot-comment suspicion is not earned here.

  • Screenshot of the Reddit post "Need a Character AI alternative - recommendations?"

    r/AIToolCompare · u/Excellent-Beat6262 · May 7, 2026 · 4 upvotes · 28 comments · open on Reddit

Positive · what the thread says

A request for NSFW alternatives to Character.AI, answered mostly with referral codes and self-promotion. Two replies are about GirlfriendGPT: a user of 'a few months' says it is 'not perfect but there are lots of characters', customisable, 'quite consistent and holds up spicy RP', and the original poster adds it is one of their favourites and needs no sign-up to browse. The rest of the thread is a reminder of how much of this category's Reddit presence is marketing.

“Been using girlfriendGpt for a few months now, through not perfect but there are lots of characters and you can also customize to your taste... quite consistent and holds up spicy RP” — u/Expert-County-3408, +1

My read: Faint praise, and I agree with its exact wording. Consistent and customisable is what I found; 'not perfect' covers the loop and the coin meter. The no-sign-up point is real and rare: you can read characters before you register, which is more than CrushOn allows.

  • Screenshot of the Reddit post "No daily login option available"

    r/gptgirlfriendonline · u/GrabIll7336 · April 9, 2026 · 4 upvotes · 4 comments · open on Reddit

Negative · what the thread says

A thread on the brand's own subreddit about the daily login bonus not appearing. Four replies: log out and back in, it is a known bug, try in a few hours, and from one user 'repeated problems with the daily stuff', followed by 'the issue has been fixed'. Small, but it documents two things: the site pays out daily coins for logging in, which matters on a coin-metered platform, and that the feature breaks often enough for regulars to have a routine for it.

“I've been having repeated problems with the daily stuff. It never seems to load or something. :(” — u/Thebobkiller, +1

My read: A minor bug with a major detail. I agree it is flaky; the daily bonus failed to load twice in my month and worked after a refresh. The reason people care is the coin meter: on a site where voice and images cost coins, a missed daily bonus is money.

  • Screenshot of the Reddit post "GPTGirlfriend"

    r/relationships_advice · u/Silly_Impress2809 · August 1, 2025 · 3 upvotes · 17 comments · open on Reddit

Negative · what the thread says

A wife finds a 'GPTGirlfriend' subscription on her husband's computer after 16 years together and asks how to raise it. The replies range from 'what a loser' to couples therapy, with one long comment arguing an AI girlfriend is 'like the love-bombing, addiction-forming stage of dating a narcissist' and another that it is less of a betrayal than a real person but 'deeply unhealthy'. Nobody discusses the product. It is the only thread here where the brand name appears on a bank statement, which is the detail I note.

“It bothers me that he’s paying for this, and I can’t help but wonder why he feels the need for it.” — u/Silly_Impress2809, +3

My read: Not a review, but a billing fact and a reputation fact. The charge was recognisable enough to be found and searched for; in my test the statement descriptor was the brand name, not a neutral one, and I disagree with the site's choice there. The category-wide dependency worry is real and not specific to this brand.

    r/AIGirlfriendReviews · u/ranjiphillip · September 24, 2026 · 2 upvotes · 0 comments · open on Reddit

Neutral · what the thread says

A September 2026 tally of 162 recommendations across 22 Reddit threads and 61 apps, with one vote per account. The poster went in expecting GirlfriendGPT and SpicyChat 'to rank pretty highly'. They did not: the top six were Kindroid (15 unique recommenders), DarLink (12), OurDream, Nomi and Candy AI (9 each) and Secret Desires (6), before a second pass removed referral links and self-promotion. Two upvotes, no comments, but it is the only attempt I found to measure the brand's word of mouth against rivals rather than describe it.

“I also expected apps like GirlfriendGPT and SpicyChat to rank pretty highly. So I decided to actually count instead of relying on that impression.” — u/ranjiphillip, +2

My read: A small study that matches the bigger numbers. I agree with its implication: the brand's 40,000 monthly name searches are inherited from a viral 2023 project, not earned through recommendations, and on Reddit it is a site people defend once they are inside rather than one they send newcomers to.

What Reddit adds up to

Reading across the 8 threads, weighted by upvotes.

Of the 8 threads I read, 3 are positive, 2 are mixed, 1 is neutral and 2 are negative.

Eight threads are about the brand once the unrelated ones go (ChatGPT jokes, FlowGPT, PolyBuzz and a Telegram how-to). Three are positive, two mixed, two negative and one neutral, and the split is by location: on the brand's own subreddits users rank it first or second of everything they have tried, while a September 2026 tally of 162 recommendations across 22 general threads does not have it in the top six.

The praise is specific and consistent: responses that are 'relevant, consistent, well detailed', 'the most intelligent LLM I have used', a $15 tier that is 'well worth it', an 'awesome' community, decent voices for the coins, and easy cancellation. The most upvoted thread of all (48) is a creator sharing 50 bots built on the site, which is the brand's strength in one post.

The complaints are about everything that is not text: images that do not hold a face across poses and struggle with hands, a daily coin bonus that fails to load, messages that once vanished mid-chat, and account management that lives on Discord. One thread is a wife finding the subscription on a bank statement, which is a billing-descriptor note as much as a reputation one.

The meta-finding is quiet. Nobody here reports surprise charges or token traps, and only one commenter cries scam. For a paid NSFW site that is unusual, and it fits a product whose cost is a visible coin meter rather than a hidden one.

What gets praised

  • Writing quality: consistent, detailed, 'the most intelligent LLM I have used' (3 threads)
  • Character variety and a creator community that builds collections of 50 bots (4 threads)
  • Value at $15 a month for the Premium tier (1 thread)
  • Easy cancellation and straightforward account handling (1 thread)
  • Browsing without signing up (1 thread)

What gets criticised

  • Images that do not keep the same face across poses and get hands wrong (2 threads)
  • Bugs: a daily bonus that fails to load, messages that vanished mid-chat in 2024 (2 threads)
  • Subscription management only through Discord tickets (1 thread)
  • Not among the most-recommended apps in a 162-recommendation tally (1 thread)
  • A recognisable charge on a shared bank statement (1 thread)

In the press

The latest articles that mention GirlfriendGPT, newest first. For each one: what it says, then my take on its view of the brand.

  • GirlfriendGPT Review: Features, Alternatives And MoreGreenbot · July 2, 2025

Positive · what the article says

An affiliate-disclosed review from mid-2025: more than 7,500 characters, uncensored NSFW, full customisation of looks, personality and backstory, and a way to earn money by publishing characters. On safety it claims conversations stay private with 'no monitoring or third-party access', encrypted payments with no stored card details, a crypto option, an 18+ rule and a stated focus on entertainment rather than emotional support. The cons are that it is explicit and that premium features need a subscription; then it pivots to pitching a rival called Infatuated.

My take: Useful for the character count and the creator payouts, which are real. I disagree with 'no monitoring': the site's moderation reads character sheets closely enough to flag an adult character as underage, so content is machine-read at least, and the policy does not promise otherwise.

  • The GirlfriendGPT saga: AI innovation, societal norms, and digital governanceCybernews · November 28, 2023

Mixed · what the article says

A November 2023 editorial on the project's first year: developer Enias Cailliau cloned his girlfriend into a bot that sent texts, voice memos and selfies, made about $140,000 in three months, and then lost Stripe as a payment processor as the site drifted towards explicit content. It argues the drift was driven by Google Ads steering a paying male audience, notes that women and non-binary users were the early majority, and reports the move to adult-industry payment operators in Romania.

My take: The best account of where the site came from and why it takes crypto. I agree with its central point: the product that exists today was shaped by what payment companies would allow. Nothing in it describes the current platform, and the press has not returned since.

  • 'GirlfriendGPT' where chat AI becomes her and sends messages with voice and selfiesGIGAZINE · May 24, 2023

Neutral · what the article says

A May 2023 news item on the open-source GitHub project: a Python bot that chats in Telegram, generates selfies on request and reads replies aloud with ElevenLabs voices, with a customisable personality and memory 'in development'. The reporter tests it and finds the voice clear but the selfie 'a mysterious android-like subject'. It places the project alongside the 'AI that becomes her for a dollar a minute' influencer clones of that spring.

My take: A date stamp: the voice-and-selfie idea predates the site. I agree with the reporter's selfie verdict, which three years later is still the weakest part of the product; the voices, by contrast, have improved beyond what this piece describes.

What the press adds up to

Reading across the 3 articles I could open.

Of the 3 articles I read, 1 is positive, 1 is mixed, 1 is neutral and none is negative.

Three articles, none from the last twelve months, and only one about the site people actually subscribe to. That one, Greenbot's 2025 review, is positive and affiliate-linked; the other two are from 2023 and cover the open-source Telegram project and the saga that followed, when Stripe dropped it and it moved to adult-industry payment processors.

What the 2023 pieces establish: the brand began as developer Enias Cailliau's GitHub project, went viral, earned about $140,000 in three months, drifted towards explicit content under the pull of paid advertising, and lost mainstream payments, which is why it takes crypto today. What the 2025 review adds: more than 7,500 characters, creator payouts, and a privacy claim of 'no monitoring' that the site's own moderation contradicts.

The silence is the finding. A brand with 40,000 US name searches a month and no press in a year is living on a three-year-old news cycle, and the two most-watched YouTube videos say the same thing.

What gets praised

  • A large, customisable character library with creator payouts (1 article)
  • Uncensored NSFW with crypto and encrypted payments (1 article)
  • An origin as a genuinely novel open-source project with voice and selfies (2 articles)

What gets criticised

  • Dropped by Stripe and pushed to adult-industry payment operators (1 article)
  • A product shaped towards explicit content by advertising economics (1 article)
  • Selfies that looked like 'a mysterious android' at launch (1 article)
  • No independent coverage of the current platform at all

What people type into Google before they sign up

Google's own suggestions after "girlfriendgpt" and the related searches Google Trends ranks highest over the last 12 months, retrieved October 7, 2026.

These are the questions people have before they sign up, in their own words. I group them by what they tell me, because the mix says more than any single search: a brand searched mostly with “free” has a different audience from one searched with “review”.

  • “candy ai”an AI girlfriend site I track · its page+50%

Google Trends “rising” related queries; “Breakout” means growth over 5,000%.

My take

The name points three ways, and only one of them is the product. 'girlfriendgpt github' is the 2023 open-source project; 'girlfriendgpt.com' and 'girlfriendgpt.online' are people guessing the address, and the .com and .ai domains belong to other companies. So a share of the 40,000 monthly name searches never reaches gptgirlfriend.online. From my test the .online site is the real one, and the GitHub repository is history.

The rest of the autocomplete is users, not shoppers. 'image prompts', 'character creation tips' and 'coupon code' are searches from people already inside who want better pictures, better bots and a discount. That matches the YouTube tutorials and the Reddit creator threads: the brand's search demand is maintenance of an existing audience rather than acquisition of a new one, which is also why the Trends line has drifted down since its March 2026 peak.

Trends names the rivals plainly: the top related queries are 'ai girlfriend', 'candy ai', 'spicychat' and 'janitor ai', and the rising ones are SpicyChat (up 100%) and Candy AI (up 50%). People searching this brand are comparing it with the free roleplay leader and the image-led leader, the two things it does less well than its writing. 'girlfriendgpt apk' shows the mobile demand the browser app meets only partly.

Part 3 · Traffic rank and reach

How much traffic GirlfriendGPT gets, and where it ranks

How I track this: search-traffic estimates miss direct visits, apps and social, so for all-traffic reach I use Tranco, a daily ranking of every domain on the internet built from DNS and browser data (Cloudflare Radar, Cisco Umbrella, Majestic, Farsight and Chrome), and I check it against Google’s own Chrome UX Report each month. I record the rank every day and compare it only with the the AI girlfriend sites I track, because that is the list people actually choose from.

On the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, gptgirlfriend.online ranked #33,020 among every domain worldwide, down 5,127 places since August 31, 2026, and Chrome's data puts it in the top 50,000 most visited sites. Among the AI girlfriend sites I track, that makes it #12, behind Fantasy.ai and GirlFriendly.ai.

How I read this

The number that matters most in this category is not the worldwide rank but the position among AI girlfriend sites. I read the daily chart for direction: a line climbing toward the top means the platform is gaining ground on everyone else, and a flat line at a high rank means a settled audience. Tranco is a rank, not a visit count, so I never convert it into visits.

Its positions on the category searches

gptgirlfriend.online's Google positions on the category's searches. DataForSEO, United States, September 2026.

Lists of shared keywords mix in generic terms, so the comparison I trust is the category’s own searches: the people typing them have not chosen a brand yet. In September 2026, gptgirlfriend.online held position #79 for “ai girlfriend” in the US.

SearchUS searches / monthPosition
“ai girlfriend”135,000#79
“chat girlfriend”22,200#74
“girlfriend gpt apk”90#1

How I read it. 99% of this site’s top-keyword traffic comes from people typing its own name, so the category searches are what bring in people who have never heard of it. Position #79 for "ai girlfriend" is off page one, so for now the site depends on its name rather than on the category term. It also holds a top-three position for "girlfriend gpt apk", which is where the long-tail newcomers come from.

My take: the story in the numbers

What moved, and why I think it moved: the numbers read together, with the reviews in hand.

Two crashes, one recovery, and a name that never moved. Worldwide organic traffic was 40,700 visits in October 2024, fell to 8,400 in January 2025 (down 69% in one month), climbed back to 18,600 by September 2025, then collapsed again to 5,400 in October and 4,000 in November 2025 before recovering to 15,300 in January 2026 and doubling to 29,600 in August. Through all of it, 'girlfriendgpt' stayed between 33,100 and 40,500 US searches a month. When demand is flat and the visits swing by a factor of five, the swings are Google's, not the audience's.

Both crashes have the same shape, and the same most plausible cause. Each is a one-month drop of two-thirds or more with brand searches unchanged, followed by a slow climb: the signature of an adult site losing rankings in an update or a reclassification and clawing them back. The site ranks for almost nothing but its name (693 keywords worldwide, 320 in the US, #79 for 'ai girlfriend'), so when Google demotes it for the name itself, which the .com and .ai look-alike domains also compete for, there is no generic traffic to cushion the fall.

The August 2026 doubling is not demand either. US traffic went from 13,200 in July to 26,700 in August while Google Trends for the name fell from a March 2026 peak to its lowest readings of the year in September, and the keyword tool's brand volume stayed in its 33,100 to 40,500 band. A doubling against falling interest is a ranking gain, most likely on the name itself or on a non-brand term such as 'ai sexting', where it sits at #13, rather than new people arriving. The Tranco rank, which measures the whole site's reach, got worse over the same weeks, from 27,893 to 33,020.

The link profile is receding. Referring domains grew from 1,111 to 4,105 by May 2026 and have been flat to slightly down since (4,069 in September), while backlinks peaked at 4.26 million in December 2025 and have fallen every month since to 2.27 million, almost half. Fewer links from a fixed number of domains means sitewide placements and listicle links dropping away, which fits a press that has not covered the site in twelve months.

What people say explains the ceiling, not the swings. The praise, writing, voices, the creator community, is why regulars rank it first or second and why a 22,000-member Discord exists; the complaints, images, the coin meter, the loop, are why it does not get recommended to newcomers, which a September 2026 tally of 162 Reddit recommendations confirms by leaving it out of the top six. A site that keeps its users and does not win new ones has flat brand searches, and that is exactly the line I see.

Verdict. Growing on the traffic scorecard (up 61% year on year, at 73% of its October 2024 peak) and flat to declining on demand: brand searches unchanged, Trends at half its spring level, Tranco slipping, referring domains flat, backlinks halved. The August gain is a ranking gain and ranking gains here have reversed twice in two years. If the name's Trends line keeps falling while the rivals it is compared with (SpicyChat up 100%, Candy up 50%) keep rising, the next drop will not have a recovery behind it. The condition that changes that is new users, and nothing in the search data shows them arriving.

The shape is the story: a 90% fall between October 2024 and November 2025, then a climb back to 74% of the old peak by September 2026. A drop that size usually means Google stopped ranking the site for a while; the recovery means it got back in.

The top three countries make up 94% of visits, so this is a concentrated audience; a ranking change in one of them would move the whole number.

Unique referring domains pointing to gptgirlfriend.online. More linking sites usually means more staying power in Google.

Links are still being earned (+67.0% in 12 months), which is what I want to see behind a traffic recovery: it suggests the growth is backed by the wider web, not just one ranking.

In short

What I learned, and what I expect next

Pulling it together, from my own paid test, from what users say, and from my indicators: GirlfriendGPT is holding steady right now. Here is the whole picture in a few lines, then the scorecard behind it.

How it is performing

GirlfriendGPT drew an estimated 29,947 visits from Google search in September 2026, +1.0% on August 2026 and +61.4% on a year earlier. The year-on-year figure flatters it because it is measured against the November 2025 low; against the October 2024 peak it is at 74%. Over the last quarter the trend is growing (+42.8% against the three months before). Counting all traffic, it is #12 among the AI girlfriend sites I track, behind Fantasy.ai and GirlFriendly.ai.

Reading the trend with the reviews in hand: the traffic line is a sawtooth of ranking losses and recoveries over a flat line of brand demand, so the reviews explain the level rather than the shape. What regulars praise, the writing, the voices and the creator tools, is what keeps the Discord at 22,000 members and the name searches steady at around 40,000 a month; what they criticise, the images, the coin meter and the loop, is why newcomers are sent to SpicyChat or Candy instead, and why those two are the rising queries beside the brand's name. A site that retains but does not recruit has exactly this profile: loyal, searched for by name, and exposed every time Google moves.

What changed

Brand demand is the standout: about 33,100 US searches a month (-18.3% year on year) and 90,500 worldwide. Traffic is up faster than brand demand, which usually means the site is winning generic searches rather than relying on its name. In popularity terms it has slipped 5,127 places since August 31, 2026. Links are still being earned (+67.0% in 12 months). On the reputation side: of the 8 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 1 is positive, 1 is mixed, 6 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative. YouTube's view of GirlfriendGPT is a creator's view: strong writing and voices worth the coins, with caps, a meter and a loop to work around, and a $50 Elite tier that only heavy users and bot-makers should buy. Reddit's regulars put GirlfriendGPT first or second for writing and creator tools, and complain about the images, the coins and small bugs; the wider Reddit crowd does not recommend it at all, which matches a brand whose name searches are inherited rather than earned.

What I expect

The indicators point in different directions, so I expect GirlfriendGPT to hold roughly where it is: traffic near 25.9K visits a month and a position around #12 among the sites I track. A sustained rise in brand searches is the signal that would lift it. 7 of its 8 closest search rivals currently get more US search traffic than it does, which is the gap to watch.

What I will check next month

  • Whether September 2026’s traffic figure held, rose or fell once the next month is in.
  • Whether US brand searches move out of the 33.1K band they have sat in.
  • Whether the Tranco rank keeps the direction it showed over the last 30 days.
  • Whether gptgirlfriend.online holds position #79 for “ai girlfriend”, the category’s own search.
  • Whether the rival names rising next to it in Google Trends (spicychat, candy ai) keep climbing while its own searches hold.

Part 7 · Method

How I measured all this

I bought a GirlfriendGPT membership and tested it myself, and I come at the write-up as a data researcher. Everything on this page is measured, because the whole point of this site is to rank AI girlfriend platforms by real usage and interest rather than by anyone’s taste, and every brand page uses the same indicators in the same order so they can be compared. I pulled every figure on October 7, 2026.

Traffic, keywords, backlinks, competitors, WHOIS
From DataForSEO, refreshed monthly. “Organic traffic” is an estimate of visits from Google results, modelled from the keywords a site ranks for. It leaves out direct visits, app traffic, paid ads and social referrals, so the real audience is bigger; that is why I also show an all-traffic popularity rank.
Brand search volume
Google Ads keyword data via DataForSEO. Google rounds these into bands, which is why months often repeat the same figure.
Domain Rating
Domain Rating by Ahrefs, a 100-point measure of backlink strength, published under Ahrefs’ Domain Rating license. The DataForSEO domain rank is a separate 100-point backlink score.
Popularity rank
The Tranco list, an academic ranking of the top million domains built from DNS and browser data; a rank, not a visit count. The Chrome UX Report tier is Google's own popularity bucket from real Chrome users.
Trends, videos, forums, press, search suggestions
Google Trends is relative interest on a 0 to 100 scale, not a count. News, YouTube, Reddit and autocomplete data come through SerpApi from public Google and YouTube results; video views are summed across the videos I found. For the most-watched videos I also pull the caption transcript through SerpApi, read it in full, and write a short account of what the video says plus my own conclusion; videos without captions are listed by title only. For Reddit I read each thread Google surfaces directly from reddit.com in a browser, record its upvotes, comment count and top comments as they stood that day, screenshot the post as it is publicly visible, and classify it after reading; threads with no analysis yet are listed by title. Press articles are read in full and classified the same way; pages that block automated readers are marked as unread. The category search check is a live Google result for the category's own term (United States, desktop) via DataForSEO. Discord counts come from the server's public invite page.
Hands-on testing
I purchased a GirlfriendGPT membership and used the product myself: chat, memory, images and the paid extras. My own test tells me what each feature does; the verdict on each feature comes from what users publish, because for a brand this size their view is more grounded than one reviewer's.
Rounding and independence
Figures are rounded for display; charts show the exact values. Top AI Girlfriends is not affiliated with DataForSEO, Ahrefs, SerpApi, Google, or GirlfriendGPT.

Part 8 · Final verdict

One last word on GirlfriendGPT

GirlfriendGPT is a writers' site with a famous name, and after a month on it I rate the writing above the name. The roleplay engine, especially on Elite, is as good as anything I have used in this category, the voices and the phone-call feature are the best at the price, and the characters are built by a creator community that publishes templates and 50-bot collections. The demand is real but inherited: about 40,000 US searches a month for a name that went viral as a GitHub project in 2023.

It is also a product with a meter and a ceiling. Voice and images draw on a coin allowance that full narration drains in a fortnight, the images rarely hold a face across two poses, memory below the $50 tier runs out within an evening, and the free tier is a handful of messages. The praise is about what the characters say; the complaints are about everything they are supposed to show you, and about what it costs to hear them.

Who should pick it: anyone who wants long, well-written roleplay with voice, is happy on the $35 Deluxe tier and will use the quotes-only audio setting, and anyone who wants to build characters for others. Who should not: anyone who wants images that look the same twice, anyone who wants a companion that remembers without a $50 subscription, and anyone who needs a free tier to decide.

Where it stands today: #12 of the AI girlfriend sites I track, with organic traffic up 61% year on year but still below its 2024 peak after two ranking collapses, brand demand flat for a year and drifting down on Trends, and a reputation that is warm among its regulars and absent from the wider Reddit and the press. If the brand searches start rising again it climbs my ranking on the strength of the writing; if the next Google move takes the name rankings away a third time, there is no generic traffic underneath to catch it.
