Dippy

An AI girlfriend site: what it offers, what people say, and the numbers.

I bought a Dippy membership and tested it myself. Then I built a data-tracked profile of dippy.ai, refreshed monthly. Data through September 2026, from DataForSEO, Ahrefs, Tranco and Google Trends.

I bought a Dippy membership and tested it myself, feature by feature. I’m an AI girlfriend enthusiast and a data researcher, and both shape every page on this site: my own test tells me what the product does, but I don’t grade Dippy on my feel alone.

I weigh what its users publish, and I track it the way an analyst tracks a market, with a fixed set of indicators that show how big a platform is, whether it is growing or fading, and how it compares with every other AI girlfriend site I follow.

This page answers three questions in order: what you get, what people are saying, and what the numbers show. Part 1 comes from my own paid test and Dippy’s feature list and pricing, Part 2 from the videos, Reddit threads and press I read in full, and Parts 3 and 4 from traffic and search data. That is also how I rank the best AI girlfriend sites: tested first-hand, then judged by what users say and by the numbers.

Part 1 · What it offers

What Dippy offers

Dippy (dippy.ai) is an safe-for-work AI girlfriend platform: you create or pick a companion and talk to it. I bought a membership and tested it myself; this is what it offers, and Part 2 is what users say about each part of it.

Features
iOS and Android mobile apps, Anime and realistic character roster, Emotional companionship and conversation memory, Personality progression system
Free tier
Unlimited free text messages with ads; image generation runs on coins, and the memory view, ad removal and the enhanced model sit behind Dippy Super.
Plans
Free
Extras
Free tier available with limited features. Ad-Free tier from around $4.99/month; a Super tier with a larger monthly coin allowance for images, video, and voice runs roughly $9.99-$12.99/month (around $99.99-$119.99/year). Available on iOS and Android.
Operator
Impel Intelligence, Inc. (named in the terms of service and privacy notice; the App Store seller), Not disclosed on the site. The terms point to California courts (with template brackets left in), the founders came out of the University of Toronto and Wombo, and the lead investor, Drive Capital, is in Columbus, Ohio, since April 2024 (quiet launch; out of stealth with funding in October 2024); domain registered January 2024

Part 2 · What people say

What people say about Dippy

I bought a membership and tested Dippy myself, but I don’t take my own word for it. Many users have a more grounded view of a platform this popular than one reviewer can, and I would rather not give it too much or too little credit from my own intent, so I treat what users publish and ask as the main signal for how the brand, and each of its features, is regarded. On October 7, 2026 I found 5 YouTube videos with 10,123 views between them, 0 Reddit threads that Google surfaces, and 1 news articles in the last year. I did not stop at the titles: I read 5 video transcripts (3,342 words) and 2 articles in full, and classified each one as positive, mixed, neutral or negative.

Favourability at a glance

Each item was classified after I read it, not from its title. A walkthrough or a passing mention counts as neutral.

Each feature, and what people think of it

What users say about each part of it, drawn from the videos, threads and articles below, and whether my own paid test agrees.

FeatureVerdictWhat people say
Chat and roleplayMixedSold as a Character.AI alternative with fewer filters and faster replies (both WebCraft clips, Google's AI Overview, the founders). The walkthroughs call it pleasant but 'not as advanced' as Talkie, and the case study explains why it is fast: smaller custom models chosen for cost. No video or article tests a long roleplay. My test: Partly disagree with the comparison. Replies were quick and stayed in character for a scene, but the writing was thinner than Character.AI's and far below Nomi's; speed is doing the work that depth does elsewhere.
MemoryMixed'Perfect memory' is the headline claim in the store listing, both WebCraft clips and the press release. The memory view sits behind the paid upgrade (3 of the 5 videos), so free users cannot see or edit what the character has kept, and the two recent clips admit nobody has verified the claim in long use.My test: Disagree with 'perfect'. Details held within a chat and across a few days; over a longer storyline the character contradicted earlier facts, and I could only see why after paying for the memory view.
Characters and creationPositiveThe strongest part on every channel: 200,000 user-created characters by early 2025 (Together AI), one-minute creation with the app writing the image prompt (2 videos), anime-styled full-screen art, and a reviewer's own character picking up 148 chats within days. The Discover feed and the 'what are you in the mood for' prompt are the front door.My test: Agree. Making a character took under two minutes and it was being chatted with by strangers the same day; this is the part of the app that works as advertised.
Image generationMixedImages exist for character creation and in-chat requests, but 'that requires credits, so not everything is free in this app' (one video); the App Store lists 100 coins at $3.49. The art is anime-styled by design (press release). Nobody reviews the quality. My test: Agree. Fine for a character portrait, not built for the photoreal selfies the girlfriend sites compete on, and the coins run out fast if you ask in chat.
VoiceMixedGoogle's AI Overview lists real-time voice calling; Together AI's July 2025 case study listed voice calls as 'upcoming', and the walkthroughs from 2025 note there are no audio or video calls in chat. None of the sources has used it.My test: Agree that it exists now and that it is an afterthought: the app does not lead with it, and it is nowhere near Kindroid's or Replika's.
Free tierPositiveUnlimited free text messages, the reason 3 of the 5 videos give for the app's popularity, with ads and without the memory view, dark mode, the enhanced model or image credits. Chat history is only kept if you sign in. Store reviews quoted in the videos say 'too many ads'.My test: Agree, with a caveat the videos miss: unlimited is generous because the chat is cheap to run; the things that make a companion feel like one are the paid parts.
Price and plansMixedThe 2025 videos quote $10 a month or $100 a year with a three-day trial. The App Store now lists Dippy Super at $9.99 to $12.99 a month and $99 to $119.99 a year, an ads-free-only tier at $4.99 a month, and 100 coins for $3.49, so the price has crept up and split into tiers since the walkthroughs. My test: Partly disagree with the walkthroughs' 'quite simple pricing': there are now three subscriptions and a coin pack, and the cheapest one only removes ads.
Content filtersMixed'Censorship-free, filter-free' is the launch line (Intelligent CIO) and Google frames it as fewer restrictions than Character.ai. Against that: an NSFW setting that exists to satisfy Apple's rules, an 18-plus rating, and age confirmations on some characters that one walkthrough hits.My test: Partly disagree with 'filter-free'. It is permissive for romance and most roleplay, and it has lines you discover by hitting them; 'fewer filters than Character.AI' is the accurate version.
Privacy and legitimacyMixedA real company, Impel Intelligence, Inc., with named investors and founders, which is more than most of this category offers. But the sign-up asks for a Safari extension that 'lets your friends see what you're doing on your phone', which made one reviewer say 'I don't know how safe this app is', and the terms of service still contain template brackets around the governing state. My test: Agree on both. The company is real and the billing was clean; I declined the extension and would tell anyone else to, and a legal page with placeholders left in is sloppy for a funded startup.
ReliabilityNegativeStore reviews quoted in the videos say 'buggy but good' and report glitches (2 videos), and 'dippy ai down' and 'dippy ai status' are among the ten autocomplete searches next to the name, which only happens when outages are common enough for people to check. My test: Agree. I had two sessions in my month where the app would not load chats; nothing lost, but enough to understand the searches.

How I read this

Sentiment is the hardest thing to measure honestly. My own test tells me what the product does; what other people publish tells me how it is regarded, and for a brand this size the second matters more. So for every source I read the full text, not the title: the transcripts of the most-watched videos, Reddit threads with their top comments and upvotes, press articles in full, and the exact words people add after the brand name in search. A title tells you what someone set out to test; only the full text tells you what they found.

The most-watched videos, and what they actually say

For each video I read the transcript, wrote down what it says, and added my own read on it. Most viewed first.

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

A nine-minute screen tour of the iOS app from a channel that walks through every new chat app. The reviewer reads the store listing (home-screen widgets, 'perfect memory', 24/7 friends), then shows the chat: a simple interface with suggested replies, 'pick for me', pin, clear chat and clear memory. Viewing what the character remembers needs the $10 monthly upgrade, and so does dark mode. Creating a character takes a minute because the app writes the image prompt for you. He ends on the store reviews: 'too many ads', glitches with characters, and a note that it is 'not as well maintained as Character AI or Talkie' yet.

My read: Accurate as far as it goes, and the paywall placement is the finding. I agree: the memory is the one thing worth paying for here, and the free tier lets you use it but not see it. On maintenance I partly disagree; the app still gets updates, the problem in my test was depth, not polish.

  • DIPPY AI APP - how to usemrhackio · 1y ago · 4:11 · 3.4K views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

A four-minute onboarding clip from the same channel. Sign-up asks you to enable a Safari extension that, in the app's words, 'lets your friends see what you're doing on your phone so they can learn more about you', then a widget, then notifications. The reviewer's one editorial line is 'I don't know how safe this app is', said while toggling the extension. The upgrade screen is shown: $100 a year or $10 a month for no ads, an enhanced model, memory, colour schemes, app icons and priority support. He calls the design minimal and 'a bit different' from Chai, Character AI and Talkie, and the app 'super early'.

My read: The extension deserves more than a shrug, and I agree with his unease. A companion app asking to watch your browsing is the most invasive onboarding step I have seen in this category; I declined it and the app worked fine. The price card matched the App Store when I checked, give or take the tiers added since.

  • DIPPY AI - HOW TO USE. FULL OVERVIEWmrhackio · 1y ago · 8:15 · 2.1K views

Positive · what the video says

The fullest of the three walkthroughs, and the one with an opinion. The draw is unlimited free messages, 'that's why a lot of people like this app', though image requests need credits and viewing memories needs the upgrade ($10 a month or $100 a year, three-day trial on the yearly plan). He notes an age confirmation on some characters, Duolingo-style streaks and badges, a character he made that had 148 chats within days, a single home-screen widget, and that it is 'not as advanced' as Talkie, with no video or audio calls in chat. Store reviews say 'buggy but good'; he saw only minor UI overlap. Verdict: a nice app that 'requires a boost'.

My read: The honest sales pitch, and I partly disagree with the headline benefit. Unlimited messages cost nothing to give away when the conversation is this shallow; the memory you cannot inspect and the images on credits are where the product actually lives. I agree the design is pleasant and the streaks work on you, which is the point.

  • Dippy AI Review: Best AI Character Chat & Companion App in 2026? (Honest Review)WebCraft · 2mo ago · 1:38 · 1.1K views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

A 98-second 'honest review' with an AI narrator that reads the website back: unlimited free messaging, 'millions of proactive AI characters', 'perfect memory', seamless character creation, a mobile app. Its one honest moment is admitting that 'independent user reviews and third party ratings for Dippy AI are currently very limited', so it cannot say whether the memory or the proactive characters hold up in long use, and it tells you to try it yourself. No test is shown.

My read: Not a review, and it says so. I disagree with the 'perfect memory' line it repeats: in my test the character held a chat's details but drifted across a long storyline, and the memory view is paid. The admission that nobody has reviewed this app is the most useful sentence in it.

  • How to Use Dippy AI to Create & Chat with AI Characters in 2026 (Easy Tutorial)WebCraft · 2mo ago · 1:36 · 53 views

Neutral, no verdict · what the video says

A 96-second tutorial from the same channel, 53 views, cited by Google's AI Overview. It describes the web interface (Discover and Create tabs), repeats the unlimited-messaging and 'perfect memory' claims, and adds the one practical tip: sign in or your chat history is not kept, which the site itself warns. It again concedes it has no independent reviews to draw on and recommends trying the free tier.

My read: A tutorial generated from the home page. I agree with the login tip, which caught me on day one. That Google cites a 53-view AI-narrated clip as a source tells you how little anyone has written about this app.

What the videos add up to

Reading across the 5 transcripts, this is the picture that emerges.

Of the 5 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 1 is positive, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative.

Five videos, 10,123 views between them, and only one with an opinion. Three are screen tours from a channel that records every new chat app (one is positive, two are walkthroughs I count as neutral), and two are 90-second AI-voiced clips that read the website aloud and concede 'independent user reviews are currently very limited'. Nobody used it for a week.

What they show: unlimited free messages with ads, a clean minimal interface, one-minute character creation with the app writing the image prompt, home-screen widgets and streaks borrowed from Duolingo. What they flag: the memory view sits behind the $10 upgrade, images need credits, there are no calls in chat and fewer tools than Talkie or Character AI, store reviews complain of ads and bugs, and a Safari extension at sign-up asks to watch what you do on your phone.

The gap is the finding. For an app that claimed 4 million users in early 2025, there is not one long-term test on YouTube. The walkthroughs date from the growth year; the AI clips from two months ago exist to catch search traffic, and one of them is what Google's AI Overview cites.

What gets praised

  • Unlimited free text messages (3 of the 5 videos)
  • Clean, minimal interface, different from Chai and Character AI (3 videos)
  • Fast character creation with the app writing the image prompt (2 videos)
  • Widgets and proactive questions on the home screen (2 videos)

What gets criticised

  • Viewing the character's memory needs the paid upgrade (3 videos)
  • Ads on the free tier, cited from store reviews (2 videos)
  • Fewer features than Talkie or Character AI, no calls in chat (2 videos)
  • Bugs and glitches reported in store reviews (2 videos)
  • A browser extension at sign-up that reads your activity, 'I don't know how safe this app is' (1 video)
  • No independent reviews exist to verify the memory claims (2 videos)

In the press

The latest articles that mention Dippy, newest first. For each one: what it says, then my take on its view of the brand.

  • 6 Best Dippy AI Alternatives (And Why You Might Want One)autogpt.net · April 28, 2026

    Could not read

This page blocks automated readers, so I have only the headline: a list of six Dippy alternatives, which is itself a signal about where readers were heading by April 2026.

  • Scaling AI Companions: How Dippy AI Reached Over 4 Million Tokens/Minute with Together Dedicated EndpointsTogether AI · July 14, 2025

Positive · what the article says

A vendor case study from Together AI, July 2025. The useful facts: Dippy was founded in April 2024 by Akshat Jagga and Angad Arneja; by early 2025 it claimed over 4 million users, 200,000 user-created characters and 300 million messages; usage peaks and troughs with its core users' day; and the team moved from general models of 100 billion-plus parameters to 'smaller, specialized' custom models to cut cost, now served on H100 endpoints at 4 million tokens a minute with a 0.4-second time to first token. Voice calls are listed as upcoming.

My take: Read it as a hardware advertisement. I disagree that the smaller models are 'equally engaging': the chat in my test was fast and thin, and the cost decision described here is the first thing I would look at when asking why the audience left.

  • Dippy AI launches censorship-free, proactive AI CompanionsIntelligent CIO · October 23, 2024

Positive · what the article says

An October 2024 funding announcement run nearly verbatim: $2.1 million pre-seed led by Drive Capital, raised before there was a product, 500,000 monthly users and 30,000 user-made characters six months after a quiet April launch, 100 million messages, an hour-plus average session. The pitch is 'censorship-free, filter-free' companions with persistent memory, anime-styled art, an NSFW setting inside Apple's 17-plus rules, a chain-of-thought view, and a custom roleplay model being built on Bittensor. The founders came from Wombo and had raised the money for a Mac productivity tool.

My take: A press release, not reporting. I partly disagree with 'filter-free': some characters asked me to confirm my age, and the NSFW toggle exists because Apple draws lines. The durable fact is who is behind it: a University of Toronto team with venture money and a pivot.

What the press adds up to

Reading across the 2 articles I could open.

Of the 2 articles I read, 2 are positive and none is negative.

Three articles, one blocked, two promotional. Intelligent CIO ran the October 2024 funding release; Together AI wrote up its own customer in July 2025. Both are positive because both are marketing. The blocked one, from April 2026, is a list of Dippy alternatives.

What they establish: a real company (Impel Intelligence, Inc.) with real backers (Drive Capital, Hustle Fund), founders with a prior hit (Wombo), a quiet April 2024 launch, self-reported growth from 500,000 monthly users to over 4 million, an uncensored positioning with an NSFW setting, and a cost-driven move to smaller custom models. What they do not: any independent use, any price, any mention of the ads, or anything after mid-2025, which is when the numbers in this profile turn down.

One thing to hold onto: the case study says the team swapped large general models for smaller specialised ones to save money. That is a normal startup decision and also the most plausible place a chat gets thinner, and nobody in the press has checked.

What gets praised

  • Self-reported scale: 500,000 monthly users in October 2024, over 4 million by early 2025 (2 articles)
  • Persistent, proactive memory as the core feature (2 articles)
  • Uncensored positioning with an NSFW setting (1 article)
  • A funded team with a prior consumer hit (1 article)

What gets criticised

  • Neither readable article is independent: a press release and a vendor case study (2 articles)
  • User numbers are the company's own and unaudited (2 articles)
  • A cost-driven switch to smaller models, presented as a win (1 article)
  • No price, no mention of ads, nothing after mid-2025 (2 articles)

How Google’s AI describes it

The AI Overview Google showed for a US search of "dippy.ai" on October 7, 2026, quoted as is.

Dippy AI is an interactive character AI platform and roleplaying app designed for chatting with lifelike virtual companions, fictional personas, and custom characters. Core Features Persistent Memory: Characters remember key details and preferences from past chats to keep long-term storylines consistent. Custom Character Creation: You can build your own custom personas by defining their backstories, rules, and behavior traits. Fewer Filters: It serves as a popular alternative to apps like Character.ai, offering fewer content restrictions and more direct responses. Voice Calling: Allows real-time voice conversations with AI characters alongside traditional text messaging. Pricing and Access…

How AI systems regard it: my take

Why this matters: for a brand with no Reddit threads and no reviews, Google's summary is close to the only third-party description a newcomer will read. The sources it cites are the brand's own site, an AI tools directory, a 53-view AI-narrated tutorial and the brand's TikTok, which tells you how thin the record is.

The framing is 'character AI platform and roleplaying app' first, an alternative to Character.ai with fewer filters, then persistent memory, custom characters and voice calling. That is accurate: this is a character-chat app with a romance setting, not an AI girlfriend product, and the audience in the traffic data (Indonesia and the Philippines in the top four countries) fits that.

One claim I would caveat: 'persistent memory' presented as a core feature. The memory exists, but the walkthroughs show the view of it behind the paid upgrade, and in my test it was ordinary, not the 'perfect memory' of the listing. Nothing Google cites has checked.

These are the questions people have before they sign up, in their own words. I group them by what they tell me, because the mix says more than any single search: a brand searched mostly with “free” has a different audience from one searched with “review”.

My take

The searches next to the name are about getting in, not deciding. 'Chat', 'website', 'login', 'app', 'discord' are navigation; 'dippy ai website' is the top rising query at +300%, which fits an app whose users were on their phones and are now looking for the browser version. 'Reddit' is there too, and the answer to it is that there is nothing on Reddit.

'Down' and 'status' are the two I would not want next to my brand. Outage searches only appear when people check often enough, and 'premium apk' and 'apk' show an Android audience trying to sideload the paid tier for free, which is the same audience the free unlimited tier was built to attract.

The related queries are the competition, and they are rising as Dippy falls: Character AI, Chai and Janitor are the top related names, and Emochi and Polybuzz are both up over 100% in the same year Dippy's own searches fell 84%. That is an audience moving to the next character-chat app, which is what this kind of app's audience does.

Part 3 · Traffic rank and reach

How much traffic Dippy gets, and where it ranks

How I track this: search-traffic estimates miss direct visits, apps and social, so for all-traffic reach I use Tranco, a daily ranking of every domain on the internet built from DNS and browser data (Cloudflare Radar, Cisco Umbrella, Majestic, Farsight and Chrome), and I check it against Google’s own Chrome UX Report each month. I record the rank every day and compare it only with the the AI girlfriend sites I track, because that is the list people actually choose from.

On the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, dippy.ai ranked #451,985 among every domain worldwide, down 26,803 places since August 31, 2026, and Chrome's data puts it in the top 1,000,000 most visited sites. Among the AI girlfriend sites I track, that makes it #45, behind EroPlay.ai and PepHop.

How I read this

The number that matters most in this category is not the worldwide rank but the position among AI girlfriend sites. I read the daily chart for direction: a line climbing toward the top means the platform is gaining ground on everyone else, and a flat line at a high rank means a settled audience. Tranco is a rank, not a visit count, so I never convert it into visits.

What the numbers tell me about Dippy

First the facts, each one derived from the table above and nothing else. Then the story I read in them.

The facts

Traffic down 13% on the monthEstimated organic search traffic in September 2026 was 38,274 visits worldwide, -13.0% versus August 2026 and -81.9% versus September 2025.
Peak of 212K in Sep 25The 24-month peak was 211,624 visits in September 2025; traffic is now -81.9% from that peak.
22% of visits come from the United StatesThe United States accounts for 8,569 visits, followed by Indonesia and India.
3.6K people a month search the brand name in the USGoogle Ads data puts US searches for "dippy ai" at about 3,600 a month in August 2026 (-83.8% since September 2025), and worldwide searches at about 27,100.
44% of top-keyword traffic is branded44% of the traffic from the top 10 US keywords comes from people typing the brand name, which indicates a meaningful share of visits from generic, non-branded searches.
1.4K referring domains, Domain Rating 481,420 websites link to dippy.ai, +99.4% over the last 12 months; its Domain Rating by Ahrefs is 48 and its DataForSEO domain rank is 38.
#45 among the AI girlfriend sites I trackDippy sits #45 among the sites I track on the combined data; it holds no tracked position for "ai girlfriend", so its reach across the internet carries more of the weight. Among all domains on the internet it ranks 451,985th in the Tranco list of October 6, 2026, down 26,803 places since August 31, 2026; Google's Chrome UX Report places it in the top 1,000,000 most visited sites worldwide.
YouTube has no reviewer who used Dippy for more than an afternoon: three app walkthroughs and two AI-narrated clips that admit nobody has reviewed itOf the 5 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 1 is positive, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative. YouTube cannot vouch for Dippy: three walkthroughs like the free unlimited chat and the design and note that memory, images and ad removal are paid, and the only two recent clips admit nobody has reviewed it.

My take: the story in the numbers

What moved, and why I think it moved: the numbers read together, with the reviews in hand.

A 24-fold rise and an 82% fall inside two years. Worldwide organic visits went from 8,700 in October 2024 to a peak of 211,600 in September 2025, then fell every quarter: 164,000 in October, 108,000 in December, about 100,000 through March 2026, a 33% step down to 69,000 in April, 60,000 to 65,000 over the summer, and 38,300 in September 2026. US visits ran the same curve, 1,100 to 33,600 to 8,600.

This time demand fell with the traffic, which makes it a different story from the ranking slides elsewhere in this category. US searches for 'dippy ai' were 22,200 a month in September 2025 and 3,600 in August 2026, down 84%, with the drop starting the same month as the traffic (18,100 in October, 14,800 in November, 8,100 by December). Google Trends peaked in the week of 16 November 2025 at 100 and sits at 16. When the name and the visits fall together, the audience left; nothing about the site's rankings needs explaining.

Where the audience went is in the related searches. The top related queries are Character AI, Chai and Janitor, and the rising ones are Emochi and Polybuzz, both up over 100% in the year Dippy fell. Indonesia and the Philippines are two of the top four traffic countries and the walkthroughs note the app's 'traction on TikTok': this was a mobile character-chat audience that moves with the feed, and it moved. The autocomplete adds a second reason: 'dippy ai down' and 'dippy ai status' next to the name mean outages were common enough to check for.

What is left is generic rankings, not the name. The site still holds #3 for 'ai roleplay platform' (33,100 searches a month), #8 for 'free ai chat' and #1 for 'free unlimited ai chatbot', and those bring more visits than 'dippy ai' itself now does; less than half the top-keyword traffic is branded. It is not in the top 20 for 'ai girlfriend' and never targeted it. If those generic positions slip, there is no brand demand underneath to catch the fall.

The links and the authority have stopped growing too. Referring domains rose from 127 to 1,440 by May 2026 and have been flat since (1,420 in September); backlinks peaked at 5,308 in May and have fallen to 4,526, which is what it looks like when lists and directories drop a brand. The domain rank has been stuck at 38 since December 2025, the Tranco rank worsened from 425,182 to 451,985 between late August and early October, and the one press item in the last twelve months is a list of alternatives.

Verdict. Declining on every indicator I track: worldwide and US traffic, brand searches, Trends, backlinks and Tranco all down, referring domains and domain rank flat. The product record explains it only in the negative: nothing anyone praises (free unlimited chat, easy character creation) is a reason to stay once the next free app arrives, and the paid parts (memory view, no ads) are the parts that would. The condition that would change this is brand searches climbing back above 5,400, where they stood in spring 2026; I would need to see two months of that before calling a floor.

Visit the site, or compare it with the rest of the category first.

In short

What I learned, and what I expect next

Pulling it together, from my own paid test, from what users say, and from my indicators: Dippy is losing ground right now. Here is the whole picture in a few lines, then the scorecard behind it.

How it is performing

Dippy drew an estimated 38,274 visits from Google search in September 2026, -13.0% on August 2026 and -81.9% on a year earlier. Over the last quarter the trend is slipping (-27.4% against the three months before). Counting all traffic, it is #45 among the AI girlfriend sites I track, behind EroPlay.ai and PepHop.

Reading the trend with the reviews in hand: there are no reviews to read, and that is the reading. An app that claimed 4 million users produced no Reddit threads and no YouTube test longer than an afternoon, so when the TikTok wave ended there was no word of mouth to replace it, and demand and traffic fell together, 84% and 82%. What the walkthroughs praise (free unlimited messages, quick character creation, a pleasant design) is exactly what the rising rivals Emochi and Polybuzz also offer; what they flag (memory behind a paywall, ads, bugs, an invasive extension) is why nobody argued for staying.

What changed

Brand demand is the standout: about 3,600 US searches a month (-83.8% year on year) and 27,100 worldwide. Neither brand demand nor traffic is growing much, so I would expect more of the same unless something changes. In popularity terms it has slipped 26,803 places since August 31, 2026. Links are still being earned (+99.4% in 12 months). On the reputation side: of the 5 most-watched videos whose transcripts I read, 1 is positive, 4 are neutral walkthroughs with no verdict and none is negative. YouTube cannot vouch for Dippy: three walkthroughs like the free unlimited chat and the design and note that memory, images and ad removal are paid, and the only two recent clips admit nobody has reviewed it.

What I expect

More indicators are falling than rising, so unless brand demand picks up I expect Dippy to keep sliding against the sites above it. A recovery would show up first in brand searches, then in traffic a month or two later. 7 of its 8 closest search rivals currently get more US search traffic than it does, which is the gap to watch.

What I will check next month

  • Whether September 2026’s traffic figure held, rose or fell once the next month is in.
  • Whether US brand searches move out of the 3.6K band they have sat in.
  • Whether the Tranco rank keeps the direction it showed over the last 30 days.

Part 7 · Method

How I measured all this

I bought a Dippy membership and tested it myself, and I come at the write-up as a data researcher. Everything on this page is measured, because the whole point of this site is to rank AI girlfriend platforms by real usage and interest rather than by anyone’s taste, and every brand page uses the same indicators in the same order so they can be compared. I pulled every figure on October 7, 2026.

Traffic, keywords, backlinks, competitors, WHOIS
From DataForSEO, refreshed monthly. “Organic traffic” is an estimate of visits from Google results, modelled from the keywords a site ranks for. It leaves out direct visits, app traffic, paid ads and social referrals, so the real audience is bigger; that is why I also show an all-traffic popularity rank.
Brand search volume
Google Ads keyword data via DataForSEO. Google rounds these into bands, which is why months often repeat the same figure.
Domain Rating
Domain Rating by Ahrefs, a 100-point measure of backlink strength, published under Ahrefs’ Domain Rating license. The DataForSEO domain rank is a separate 100-point backlink score.
Popularity rank
The Tranco list, an academic ranking of the top million domains built from DNS and browser data; a rank, not a visit count. The Chrome UX Report tier is Google's own popularity bucket from real Chrome users.
Trends, videos, forums, press, search suggestions
Google Trends is relative interest on a 0 to 100 scale, not a count. News, YouTube, Reddit and autocomplete data come through SerpApi from public Google and YouTube results; video views are summed across the videos I found. For the most-watched videos I also pull the caption transcript through SerpApi, read it in full, and write a short account of what the video says plus my own conclusion; videos without captions are listed by title only. For Reddit I read each thread Google surfaces directly from reddit.com in a browser, record its upvotes, comment count and top comments as they stood that day, screenshot the post as it is publicly visible, and classify it after reading; threads with no analysis yet are listed by title. Press articles are read in full and classified the same way; pages that block automated readers are marked as unread. The category search check is a live Google result for the category's own term (United States, desktop) via DataForSEO. Discord counts come from the server's public invite page.
Hands-on testing
I purchased a Dippy membership and used the product myself: chat, memory, images and the paid extras. My own test tells me what each feature does; the verdict on each feature comes from what users publish, because for a brand this size their view is more grounded than one reviewer's.
Rounding and independence
Figures are rounded for display; charts show the exact values. Top AI Girlfriends is not affiliated with DataForSEO, Ahrefs, SerpApi, Google, or Dippy.

Part 8 · Final verdict

One last word on Dippy

Dippy is a free, unlimited character-chat app whose moment was 2025, and a month with it told me why the moment passed. Character creation is quick and the feed is lively, replies are fast, and you can chat all day without paying. But the conversation is thin next to Character.AI and far below Nomi, the memory the listing calls 'perfect' is ordinary and hidden behind the paid tier, and nothing in the app gave me a reason to come back the next day except a streak counter.

The trade-off is the whole business model. Unlimited free messages with ads attract a mobile audience that moves with TikTok, and a cost-driven switch to smaller models keeps that affordable; both decisions are sensible and both are why the audience left for the next app. The sources agree by their absence: three walkthroughs, two AI-narrated clips, a press release and a vendor case study, and not one person who used it for a month and wrote it up.

Who should pick it: someone who wants free, unlimited, anime-styled character roleplay on a phone and does not mind ads. Who should not: anyone looking for an AI girlfriend experience with images and voice that matter, anyone who wants memory they can see and manage without paying, and anyone who wants a product whose audience is growing.

Where it stands today: #45 of the AI girlfriend sites I track, with traffic down 82% and brand searches down 84% in a year, a funded operator still shipping updates, and no community to speak of. It stays low on my list until the name searches recover; if they do not, the generic rankings it survives on are the next thing to go.

See where Dippy stands among every AI girlfriend site

Every platform I track, tested the same way and ranked by the same indicators.
