What SerpApi is

SerpApi requests a search results page in real time and returns it parsed into structured data. We choose the engine, the country, the language and the device, and we get back what a person in that place would have seen at that moment: the organic results, the AI Overview, the news, the autocomplete suggestions, the YouTube results and, importantly, the transcript of a video.

The transcripts are the reason it earns its place here. Reading what a reviewer actually said across twelve minutes of video is a different thing from reading the title, and most of the disagreements recorded on our brand pages came out of a transcript rather than a headline.

Why we rely on it

  • It returns the live page rather than a cached model of it, so what we quote is what the engine served, with the parameters recorded.
  • Results are parsed into documented fields, so the same request can be repeated next month and compared with the last one.
  • Because every call is a real request with a real location and device, we can separate United States results from worldwide ones instead of assuming they match.

What we take from it

Google Trends
Five years of relative interest in the category's search, worldwide and in the United States, plus interest by country and the queries rising next to it.
YouTube and transcripts
The most-watched videos about each brand, their view counts, and the full transcript of each one, which is what the video summaries on brand pages are written from.
Google News
Press coverage about a brand in the last twelve months, which we then read in full and classify.
Google's AI Overview
What Google's own summary says about a brand, which we quote and then agree or disagree with.
Autocomplete
The searches people type next to a brand name, which is often where the complaints show up first.
Thread discovery
Finding the Reddit threads Google surfaces for a brand, which we then read directly.

What it cannot tell us

  • A search result is a snapshot. Rankings move daily, so we date every check and prefer the monthly keyword data for anything we treat as a trend.
  • Google Trends is a relative index from 0 to 100, not a count of searches. It shows shape, not size.
  • Not every video has a transcript. Where one is missing we leave the video out of the analysis rather than guessing from the title.
