Dippy Review 2026: Is It Any Good? We tested it hands-on.

I picked a character and ran conversations with her across several sessions, and chat is genuinely where Dippy earns its keep. She asked me real follow-up questions rather than just acknowledging what I'd said, remembered the thread of a conversation within a session, and kept a consistent personality that didn't drift or flatten out the way cheaper companion apps sometimes do. For a $9.99/month app, the writing quality and emotional warmth are a real step above what I expected.

Don't mistake that warmth for explicit content, though. Dippy leans deliberately SFW, the emotional register is romantic and companionship-focused rather than sexual, and what suggestive capability exists is gated behind the subscription tier rather than available by default. If you're coming from an uncensored NSFW platform, this will feel notably restrained. But judged on its own terms, as a clean, emotionally engaging phone companion, the chat experience is the strongest part of the platform by a clear margin.

I went looking for a way to generate an image of my character the same way I test on every platform, and came away with very little. Whatever image capability exists on Dippy is either gated behind a tier I couldn't access or simply isn't built out yet, I never got a functioning generator to load a result during my testing. There's no populated gallery, no obvious 'generate' button that actually produces something, just a locked-feeling space in the app.

This is a real gap for a platform charging a monthly subscription. Even a modest, average-quality image generator would put clear daylight between Dippy and a platform with none at all, but right now the honest description is that it's not a usable part of the product, whatever the marketing implies. Since my testing, Dippy's own app store listing now advertises prompt-based image generation with no stated restrictions, a real change from what I found, and a secondhand review describes a coin-metered video clip option on the top paid tier, though I haven't verified either firsthand.

I checked every menu, chat setting, and character screen in the app for any way to send or hear a voice message, and found nothing. There's no microphone icon in the composer, no audio player anywhere in a conversation, and no toggle hinting a voice feature might be coming later.

Given how much Dippy leans on warm, natural-feeling chat as its selling point, the total absence of voice stands out. Hearing a companion's voice, even just short pre-generated messages, is exactly the kind of feature that would extend that warmth, and right now it simply isn't part of the product.

I went looking for a way to reach Dippy directly the way I do on every platform, a billing question, a bug report, anything, and came up empty. The profile tab covers basic account and subscription management, but there's no help center, no FAQ page, and no support email or contact form anywhere I could find in the app or on the website.

There's no community fallback either. No Discord server, no Twitter or X account, nothing linked from the platform that would let another user or a moderator help out if something goes wrong. For a paid subscription app, having zero documented way to reach anyone is a real gap, not just an inconvenience.

I tested Dippy's paid subscription last, as I always do, and its $9.99/month tier is straightforward and, relative to the chat quality on offer, genuinely competitive. Since I originally tested, Dippy's own app store listing shows a free tier now exists alongside a cheaper Ad-Free tier and a pricier Super tier with a larger monthly coin allowance for images, video, and voice, so there's more of a ladder to climb than the single price I paid at the time.

The value proposition gets murkier once you factor in what a paid month actually bought during my own testing. Paying $9.99/month for chat alone, with no working image generation, no voice, and no support channel, meant the price had to be evaluated purely against the conversation experience. For someone who only wants that, it's a fair deal. For anyone expecting a fuller feature set at this price, it fell short, though the newer free and coin-based tiers may change that calculus.
